Valve might not be the first, but they are one of the big hitters in the field. That said I'm guessing they attributed it to Valve simply because they'll be releasing their games on the STEAM network!

Does Quake Live count? It's a (free) port of Quake 3 arena to the browser environment. I'm an Unreal Tournament fan myself, but it's not bad at all. Downloaded very quickly too, so I'm not sure what the disk usage is.

After reading your latest entry; yes!

Well it was (finally) released today on PSN for the princely sum of ~ £11.99/$20 and from what (little) I've played so far it's an enjoyable and nostalgic trip back to the nineties with better graphics and stuff. I can easily recommend it to those with a passing affection for the original. It feels fresh despite the obvious similarities and a quick bash in multiplayer was promising if also a little demoralizing, as I had forgot getting ahead of the pack usually results in several missiles up your arse. Motion controls are workable but probably too much like hard work in the long run, and best left to just pitching (up & down). I really like the clean interface and superfluous options like the photo mode are surprisingly fun to fiddle with too. Ignoring the difficulty of navigating the tracks at speed it's a very pick up and play sort of game with fast loading times and no complications. Trophies, multiplayer and online leaderboards (which automatically filter out and display your friends times) mean it has some grinding potential too. It's worth bearing in mind however that it apparently borrows a fair bit of content from a couple of PSP spin-offs I've never played, still for a tenner you can't really complain. Well technically I suppose a certain someone could, and I can also imagine the frustration he'd feel playing this so I'm going to pre-empt it and put in a Toblix Complains tag just to be safe.

One of the nice things about the sound effects is how they manipulate them on the fly. Like when an explosion goes off or you enter a walled up area. It also works with your custom soundtrack. I don't think it's anything fancy (?), but it's a welcome flourish all the same. @Nachimir; you should have shown him PixelJunk Eden in 1080p with the bass turned up

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Guns of the Saucer Men From Mars

Someone is also tailing you at the same time -
"all PlayStation fans are paedophiles." "Given the frequency of Xbox console malfunctions, don't be surprised if you witness a Red Ring of Death system failure right in the middle of your flame war. Once an X-bot has had to face the shame of running for the fire extinguisher, with barely the time to type BRB RROD, could he ever dare to return to the console wars again?" "Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiidge Racer!"

...but in response to what?

None of the current consoles are good enough The PS3 is often touted as the best of the bunch hardware wise but from a PC gamers perspective it's still fairly crap. The same applies to them all naturally, and as much as you might like to praise the virtues of something like xbox live it's still just a service tacked on in much the same way as the media capabilities of the PS3, or the waggle function of the Wii... and in all cases easily replicated on the PC. The only true defining feature of a console is its software. I love my PS3, and I'm sure some of you love your 360s and your Wiis, but come on, they are shit. If all the games were available (as is) on the PC then what'd be the point in buying a console just to play them in a hamstrung environment? I honestly can't think of any compelling argument* that isn't undermined by viable solutions. The PC is at the forefront of technology innovation, and the control you have is intoxicating. Who'd have thought a fellow thumb user would be controlling his games using the power of thought. Come on, get those games on the PC and have done with all this console malarkey. Enough's enough. *that doesn't involve money, at which point it gets messy.

I'd just moved house when I bought it and was without a connection for the first few weeks. It was the most fun I'd had with the game. Assuming you get on with the general platforming malarkey I honestly can't see how you'd go wrong - the levels on offer are more than enough to satisfy you and there's plenty of fun side missions littered around the place to boot. You could even create levels for your own amusement. The focus on user content is misleading actually, and as a selling point it's double edged. Edit; damn, beaten to the punch by Toblix

Get in a Jeep, drive, hit a checkpoint, stop the car, get in gunners seat, shoot bad guys, drive off. Notice stragglers from the checkpoint following, stop car, get in gunners seat, shoot bad guys, drive off. Hit next checkpoint, stop car, get in gunners seat, shoot bad guys, drive off.... [rinse and repeat]... finally reach destination, stop, get in gunners seat, shoot bad guys, drive off. Actually, I liked the game but I really don't understand where all the pontificating over it comes from. You can elaborate on the experience of playing most games and make it sound utterly amazing but that doesn't necessarily mean the game delivers.

You might have to press square to get the extra options including tutorial (you may have skipped it the first time by accident). ...has already been created by another LBP user. I thought I finally had some nifty ideas only to end up playing them by chance one day. I could have cried.

Rename the thread; 'How Superman's stunts should be done in the next movie'.

You can download copies of the ones on evolution directly from Richard Dawkins website. The best bit is when he calls in Douglas Adams to read from one of Hitchhikers books.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Guns of the Saucer Men From Mars

Fans of Metal Gear Solid might like this 'group therapy session' with the voice-actors who can't separate their characters from their real lives. It made me laugh, your mileage may vary... -
The only list I've noticed Fable II in is Joystiq's and that's because it just so happens to be their number one choice of game for 2008. I'll freely admit I'm drawn to these lists like a moth to light, but once I've calmed down and wiped the tears from eyes I realise there's little point in getting upset or bent out of shape as the only opinion that matters anyway is mine.

Yeah, it'll come naturally that way

You've been Kotaku'd I've had one person in all my time online use voice chat, and he was off my friends list. There's no indicator as to who is actually speaking either, so it could get messy with more than one little sackperson. They should have used pop-ups like with the text-chat.

ysbreker is the owner, but other members are able to invite in and accept new members (I believe). When the community features first went up you weren't able to switch back and forth between public/private and private did have some benefits in tracking group statistics. It's not like you vet users being invited. I mean, I got in.

*bump* ...and, shouldn't this thread be in Multiplayer Networking

I bought it when RPS first recommended it then regretted it as I'd much rather it were on my STEAM list. Seriously though, get ready for some bile in the stomach, bile on the monitor type situations. It's torturous at times. I've left many of the later levels incomplete, doctors orders!

They are linking to the Wii version, so maybe it's just the port that didn't do well.

If you're curious, as to what Mr. Metal Gear Hater is referring to, then it's Metal Gear Solid 4. Don't watch the video on gamespot if you haven't played the game and are planning to at some point. It's spoilerific. As for MGS4, It's a wonderful game for pre-existing fanboys, but I think something like LittleBigPlanet is more deserving.

To be fair, NHL09 is my sports pick of the year. It's really rather good, particularly it's online mode with clubs made up entirely of human players (from the goalie outwards).
