  1. I've previously played GRiD to death despite being a bit of a sim-snob and not particularly fond of Codemasters. Multiplayer is impressive because not only does it have a grinding potential in the form of an experience meter but races are short and too the point. The ability to vote in different racing disiplines in lobbies means you can stay together as a group for a long time racing continously... it's addicitve as hell. I just wish it had a more fleshed out Destruction Derby mode as it's a blast to play and brings back happy memories of the Pysnogis classic. Dunno whether you like sports games or not, but I'll throw this into the mix as its one I'm really excited about more than anything else... and am laughing when I say this but it's true so I can't help it... MLB:09 The Show. A baseball game. Seriously, I don't know the first thing about baseball, and you're not going to catch me watching it or anything silly like that, but the game is one of the best sports adaptations I've ever played. It really feels like you're watching and playing a game of baseball - and although that in itself doesn't sound exciting (dug myself into a hole there!) it actually genuinely is. At least give the demo a try (off of the US PSN store) or find a copy of the older PC version called (I think) MVP baseball as they are very similar. I was surprised, you might be.
  2. Burnout Paradise

You can already play your own tracks, it's buried in the options screen somewhere. I stumbled upon it myself.
  3. Flower

Never having owned either XBOX I obviously can't comment, but you must have a bad memory if you don't remember the pressure sensitivity in Metal Gear Solid 2. It was very prominent. I'm personally still dreaming of pressure sensitive keyboards and mice.
  4. Flower

I think all the buttons on the PS3 are pressure sensitive aren't they? So did you think it was shit because of the controls, or was that a separate observation? I actually played the end sections one-handed, leaving the other hand free to do as it pleased , and only very rarely had to fight with the game. If you're familiar with Flow it's basically the same methods only now in a 3D environment.
  5. The last game you played

On the PS3 Flower, which was a great experience. On the PC, I recently played the demo of Monster Trucks Nitro (from the makers of Trials 2). I hope Trials 2 wasn't a fluke of the highest order, because Monster Trucks Nitro was dire Everything about it felt cheap - and despite being cheap it doesn't represent value for money.
  6. Flower

Well that was brief. It looks absolutely gorgeous but one minute you're playing, the next you're watching the credits roll. It could have done with some sort of sandbox mode where you can float around at will collecting from randomly spawning flowers - and I know it's sacrilege with games like this, but a high score mode would have added a lot to replayability.
  7. Burnout Paradise

On the PS3 hit 'right' on the d-pad. Then scroll down to restart. I think the menu is accessed with the F1 and F2 keys on the PC (based on comments I've read). I've just come back from a session myself, having finally achieved my B license. It's a great game to just drop into and lose yourself for an hour or so. It'd be nice if you could join online games with only people near your level of completion though. I'm sick of going up against humvees and F1 police cars. Joystiq didn't like it. I'm looking forward to the cops and robbers addon though. PSN.
  8. Killzone 2

You insinuated people were being blinded by the graphical fidelity of the game. I'm saying that enjoying the graphical fidelity might actually be fun in itself. Of course I happen to find the mechanics of combat, both in terms of its gunplay and reactive AI, to be of merit and a source of enjoyment also. Whether you're right or wrong isn't relevant; I think it's fair to say you've jumped to conclusions. I remember being unimpressed by the COD4 demo, and it wasn't until RPS ran a feature on it that I bit the bullet and found out for myself how wrong I was. You may well end up feeling vindicated when the time comes, but that doesn't mean people who enjoy the game are somehow wrong for doing so.
  9. Killzone 2

Well that doesn't explain why you're trolling here as nobody suggested Killzone 2 redefined the first person shooter genre or anything remotely similar. Based on a ten minute demo? If I find it fun it's not because I'm blinded by graphical fidelity, it's because of graphical fidelity.
  10. Nope, no scriptblock... I might try a different browser though. *or not, maybe it's fixed
  11. Street Fighter IV

I'll be getting it for the PS3, it looks brilliant. Not sure about the fat guy though.
  12. Burnout Paradise

I have the downloadable version on the PS3, it's a cool game, but I haven't gotten very far. There's apparently something like 75 cars to collect, and I think I only have about 12. I was also driving around the other night and I realised I was driving in some areas I'd never seen before. It's not a new game, I've been playing it quite a bit on and off. I didn't like him at first, but I found it to be a pretty neat feature the more I played. He always sounds authentic, as if he's saying things naturally right there and then - but I guess an option to turn him off wouldn't go amiss. Yeah, but I honestly think Valve should take a ganders at Games For Windows Live as it's both faster, and prettier... having to use it whilst playing the DoW2 beta made me a little more appreciative of it.
  13. PC Geeks only. [Empire: Total War thread]

Game scored 94% in PC Gamer's review by Jim Rossignol of RPS. No real surprises there, but looking good.
  14. Seriously, I can't post a smilie. Fucking server is prejudiced or some shit.
  15. It's still not working.
  16. Seems like something is wrong. Tried to write a post with just a smilie and I couldn't.
  17. Killzone 2

If the forum wasn't broken I'd post an image of a troll, but as it is you'll just have to imagine there's one here instead. Or simply read GDF's posts. I'm not one of those fanboys who thinks it's impossible not to like Killzone 2, but really... Are the silly comments necessary?
  18. So, Dan called it on page 2, sort of. Time to take out the trash and get back on track. I wonder what Tyrol was so surprised about at the end of the episode though, it looked like scorch marks or something?
  19. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2008/12/18/symposium-part-one-review-scores/ I never read it. Too wordy, no high scores or pretty pictures - but maybe you'll like it.
  20. Killzone 2

Looking back, you didn't seem overly joyous about the singleplayer portion of COD4, but you did speak highly of its multiplayer. Considering there's a lot of parallels between the two games in style, and with the added inclusion of tournaments, built-in clan functions, and bots both on and offline alongside a similar experience and class creation system - there seems to be enough to warrant another look when the full version comes around. Oh, and I personally prefer the lo-fi approach in futuristic settings. It gives you grounding and allows you to easily relate to whats on screen. Besides which I don't think they had much choice in deviating... it is part of an ongoing franchise
  21. Killzone 2

What a tease that was. I actually spent more time downloading it than playing but what I did get to play was extremely promising. Graphics are without a doubt amazing and the sound effects and general atmosphere is really intense. That said, the gameplay is, as Chris divulged in the most recent podcast, rather generic. I believe it was one of the earlier Call of Dutys which had me fetch an RPG to blow up a tank? Well, Killzone 2 has its equivalent only you fetch an RPG to blow up a bridge. Not exactly inspired but the resulting explosion of special effects sort of make up for it. Still, that aside I found the combat satisfying. The AI was intelligent enough to respond and act differently on repeated playthroughs and gunplay required a degree of skill... I'll definitely be upping the difficult when I get the full version though... in nearly a months time () @James; I found switching the crosshair off changed the game for me. It forces you to be more methodical in shooting; find cover, zoom in, aim and then fire. If you have to shoot off the hip at least you realise it's going to be inaccurate rather than focusing upon the crosshair. It helped me anyway - but this is my first console FPS in a long time.
  22. Killzone 2

Demo is up on PSN. It's around 1.2GB.
  23. Resi 5

It's on PSN now Toblix I just tried it. Seems alright. The controls should have been better in combat, camera is at an obscure angle, but looks okay and I like how you have fine control over where your shots go.
  24. The last game you played

    iRacing on the PC.
  25. DoW2 Beta

Valkyria Chronicles compared to Crysis No matter how many times I read that link I end up laughing out loud. The guy even makes an appearance in the comments section of the article, bullish as ever. Still, can't deny the man has a point. But Starcraft is a different thing. Starcraft is Starcraft!
