  1. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

Wouldn't they then make the games bigger to take advantage of the increased storage capacity?
  2. State of Decay

Jeez... Since when has a video that's longer than an hour counted as a quicklook?! I went on Youtube to watch a trailer. Can anyone explain to me how this is different from any other zombie game?
  3. I'd have liked a $1 backer tier on this one. I'm not really an RTS fan, but I liked getting all the backer updates for Broken age and would have liked to have gotten them for Massive Chalice too.
  4. I was chatting with Wil from JAW today and passed on your question. He says that they've told Amazon not to sell the old version of SW and instead sell the HD version, but for some reason they haven't made the change. If you bought it after the HD version was released, you've got a pretty good case for contacting Amazon and demanding a refund. If you bought it before then, you may be out of luck in that regard. If you can't get a refund from Amazon, he says you should contact him via their website and he'll try to organise an HD copy for you.
  5. Amazon doesn't support updates? I'm shocked. I'd suggest contacting JAW to ask: http://www.jawltd.com/contact-us/ Alternatively, you could sign up for the Oddworld Forums, as one of the admins there is the fan relations guy at JAW and he's always happy to answer questions. EDIT: Are you sure you don't already have the HD version? Surely if you just bought it, it would be the most recent version.
  6. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

I'm a backer too and I don't remember anything about John Lithgow being mentioned.
  7. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

One of the recent update films talked about the devs doing scratch dialogue recordings, so that's a 'Yes' to voice acting.
  8. Curiosity – What's Inside the Cube?

Of course, you could claim (perhaps next Monday) that you got to the centre and that was the reward. Who wants to place bets on how many gaming news sites would fall for it before 22Cans releases a statement?
  9. Iron Brigade

... is the fourth game coming out of Doublefine. http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/02/trenched/ Looks... interesting. Not my kind of thing, to tell the truth, but I can see the charm in it.
  10. It's not a full skip, but you can use the Twins to do the bit with the up-and-down lifts with only two characters instead of all three. It can save a minute or two.
  11. I disagree. The Adventurer was my favourite level, with real old-school puzzling. The Scientist was pretty good, though.
  12. BioShock Infinite

Whoops. I was focusing on the "There just isn't any reason to not buy it the week it's released" part of your post and missed the "once everyone's gotten a chance to play and review it." bit. Just ignore the fact that I quoted you. That post is still an accurate reflection of how I have felt about the game since it was first announced.
  13. BioShock Infinite

See, I'm the opposite. The game shows so much promise that I'm naturally suspicious it won't be able to live up to it. I might leave it a while and see what other people say first.
  14. That's a super dramatic headline, but the 'present' in question is a little over a year ago. Thought y'all might like this interview I did with Lorne Lanning. I met him last year but, due to a comedy of errors, it's only being published today. http://oddworldlibrary.net/blog/nathan-interviews-lorne-lanning-again/
  15. Heh. Yeah, it's freaking long. And yet I cut out about a third of the interview whilst editing it!
  16. Beyond Better & Evil!

Pretty much. From what I've heard, they had hundreds of DVD-ROMs with their old archives, all pretty much random. I was told that by the guy who's job it was to copy all the data from the DVDs and work out what the hell was on them. He wasn't all that happy about it. The main issues they faced (more with Munch's Oddysee than Stranger's Wrath) was that most of the software used to develop and compile the game is obsolete. So, for instance, MO-HD will have HD character models and the landscapes will have hi-res textures, but they can't change the environment models at all.
  17. Beyond Better & Evil!

It's possible that their job was made simpler by the fact that most of the the higher-res models were originally produced for the game for the cut scenes and did not need to be developed from scratch for the HD version. The lower-res models were produced from the high-res ones, not the other way around. I'm guessing that the rigging and whatnot were pretty much interchangeable.
  18. Steam Box

Yes, but most of the rumours I've seen suggest that Valve is going to simply define hardware specs and leave manufacturing and marketting to other companies. If that's true, those companies won't want to sell at a loss because they probably won't get any cut of the game sales.
  19. Psychonauts on Steam

Lucasarts have always been both developer and publisher. Except for when they outsource development, in which case they're just publisher.I don't really get what the difference is between them and the indie self-published companies though.
  20. Psychonauts on Steam

Going back to the actual topic of this thread... I agree with Thrik. The levels and Psychonauting in the game were great, but it was the in-between stuff that made it for me. If Psychonauts 2 happens, then it will be pretty much impossible to capture exactly what made the original so special. It may well be a brilliant game, but I sincerely doubt I'll end up loving it in exactly the same way. So, in other words, we'll all have to reset our expectations to avoid being disappointed.
  21. Fund Tim Schafer's next game YOURSELF!

The speed at which this has been funded boggles my mind. This morning, when I hit the 'Back This Project' button, funding was at $15,000. In the time that it took for me to give them my details and submit my money, it had already reached $22,000. And now it's completely funded and more in less than a day. *boggle*
  22. Oddworld Stranger's Wrath

That's Microsoft's decision, not OWI's. I guess the game didn't sell well enough for them to make it a priority. Besides, they stopped adding games to the compatibility list years ago. Woah, man, can you please shrink that image down a bit?
  23. Oddworld Stranger's Wrath

Don't bother with the PS3 version of the Abe games. I can only speak for the PAL version, but the upscaling is abysmal. Go with Steam; they're cheap as. Stranger's Wrath is going to be updated to the HD version in a few months. Munch's Oddysee is going to be updated to HD on PS3 some time this year and then on Steam a few months after that. And JAW are developing a 2.5D HD Abe remake for all systems, with no release date given yet.I've been warned that Stranger (and possibly Munch too) don't work well on all ATI graphics cards. Caveat emptor.
  24. Oddworld Stranger's Wrath

Heh. You're right. I should have said 'moreso'. If you mean the I mentioned, nobody even noticed it at the time. It was only when Just Add Water were going through the source code that they realised what had happened.
  25. Oddworld Stranger's Wrath

As the resident Oddworld nerd, I'd suggest playing Abe's Oddysee first, if only because once you've played Exoddus with quicksave, you'll find AO kinda frustrating. Also, it sets up the mythos for the rest of the series, which you'll miss out on if you skip straight to AE. Munch's Oddysee is worth playing if you have time to spare, but it's not a great game. Stranger's Wrath is a lot of fun, but is very different to the others.
