For those who (like me) missed the announcement, Episode 4: The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood is coming out this friday. I was expecting it to happen halfway through November, so paint me a happy chappy.

Do you think they might have had more success if they asked for money after giving the game to people? Or at least give some sort way for people to say "I only paid $0.01 but I think it's worth more so here's a few more dollars" after the fact, without going through the process of getting a new download and license.

Why some guy I know is going to pirate CoD 6 (and why I hate the average gamer)

As others have said, 'Luxury' has multiple meanings, depending on context. If you don't believe me, check out Wiktionary: luxury (plural luxuries) 1. very wealthy and comfortable surroundings. 2. something desirable but expensive. 3. something very pleasant but not really needed in life. #1 & #2 are what Tanukitsune is referring to; #3 is the definition that n0wak and others were using. -
Leading on from the previously mentioned Pulp Fiction scene, some guy has demonstrated Google Wave by using clips from several movies. Having watched them, I still have no frigging idea what Wave is meant to be, but the videos are pretty cool nonetheless. Yeah, those things don't work.On the other hand, these things got me through both games: Hard drug anti-nausea pills also work but they screw with my concentration. These herbal-ish things work surprisingly well.

I'm an inexperienced FPSer due to also suffering from motion sickness, so I can provide some beginner knowledge. Portal is a pretty good idea, so she can get a feel for the movement controls without having to worry too much about combat. Hopefully she'll also be inspired by the wondrousness of the gameplay and see the potential games have as a medium. The only other FPS I've played start-to-finish was Bioshock, which I'd also recommend. The controls are smooth, the graphics are great and there's an interesting plot if she's in to such things. Also, there's a lot of flexibility in the gameplay style so she can try different things out and see what she likes. If she's anything like me, she might prefer using plasmids and melee weapons because aiming is easier than with guns.

Oh, I didn't mean about respectfulness. Just on the level of whether it makes sense to someone who isn't Jewish. Also, I was wondering how you'd react to the issues and themes it raises, given that you'd probably have a very different game experience to what I would have. I think I shall put this one on my very long games 'To Do' list.
-
I am not so hopeful. We'd have heard about it long before now.Plus, I would probably have had to pay for a computer upgrade. Oh, wait. What am I still doing here?
-
Can I ask; are you Jewish? And whichever answer you give, how did you respond to a Jewish/rabbi themed game? (I'm Jewish myself, fyi)

Two days away from Brutal Day and I'm probably not going to be able to afford a PS3 for a good while yet. Or, at least, I can afford it now but will have a tough time justifying my purchase to concerned observers when I'm officially a poor struggling student. Have fun playing the game; I'm going to banish myself from this thread until I don't care about spoilers any more.

I've been curious about The Shivah. Can you tell us any more about what you thought of it?
-
Not necessarily, but I'd like it if I could be informed of any news about a game I was interested in, whether it was pre-release or post release, bought or unbought.

I think Disney would be fine with representing the decaying, crumbling remains of the Disney universe/themeparks simply because the purpose of the game is to restore the world back to its former state. Thus, at the end of the game, everything will be as bright, shiny and nauseating as it ever was.

Yeahbut in all those examples the designers worked within the limitations of the consoles to push the games to the limit. And I'm not saying that that isn't possible with Epic Mickey; just that all we've seen so far is production designs with an incredible level of detail or massively large environments, and I'm wondering whether that is beyond the scope of what the Wii is able to render.

Yeah... this game is starting to shit me. The objects never quite do what I intend them to do. Plus, sometimes they behave one way and sometimes others. Like in one level where you have to sneak through a museum without harming the guards; I can open a sarcophagus, get the mummy out and use it to scare the guard away. But 50% of the time the guard doesn't get scared and instead he attacks the mummy. Is there a guide or something to translating NPC's speech/thought bubbles?
-
Ah, yes. Thanks for the reminder.

Excuse my poor memory but when does Guybrush dive in MI2?
-
One geeky complaint though: I waited ten minutes underwater and nothing happened. What's the dealio with that? EDIT: Just remembered, Murray's commentary from within the inventory was hilarious.
-
Yeah, I think I might wait until the price drops a bit or it goes on special. Does Steam have a 'Watch' feature that gives information on changes to- or news about a game?
-
Congrats on the co-directing Jake! Really great game. I loved trying out all the possible date scenarios with Morgan and Noogie, and also the Manatee pickup lines. As far as I'm concerned, Murray was absolutely spot on and made me laugh out loud several times. The closing credits were particularly great. It was so good that you were able to get the same voice guy; his performance really makes the character. I also liked the glowy voodoo effects of the tarot card hexes. That was also fun to try out all the combinations.

They care insasmuch as it might lead to sales. Certainly companies like EA, who has been boycotted multiple times, could do with a PR boost. Though I personally suspect most people only ever boycotted EA until they next published something they wanted.
-
Plus, EA probably knew that the gamernerds who have been following this story would applaud them for 'doing the right thing'.

Ooooh... I spent five minutes today trying to remember the word 'pterodactyl' when I had to fly across a gap. I went with 'Pegasus' instead, which is now my favourite item. 'Fishing Rod' is #2. Riding Pegasus whilst holding a fishing rod and using it to pick up items = my favourite activity. As for the controls, they're a little confusing but I'm getting my head around them. I'm still a bit confused about the gamespace layers. In the level where you have to knock down the glass bottles, a rhino just ran in front of the platform instead of bashing it to smithereens. I tried to block some ants with a huge mountain, but they just walked right on by as if it weren't there. Other than that, my only complaint is that they have Ra but no Greek or Norse gods. Trying out the Roman ones just ended up with planets. I was teaching a class today (I run tutes at my uni) and a guy up the back was playing with his NDS Original. I initially told him to turn it off, but when he said he was playing Scribblenauts, I allowed him to carry on and give a running commentary to the rest of the class. It's amazing how quickly this game has breached in to cultural awareness (at least within the confines of a nerdy tech-focused university) when you take in to account that it was only released in Australia yesterday. So much so that I'm going to use the hat I got for pre-ordering the game from EB and dress as Maxwell for Hallowe'en.
-
Well, if local perception is anything, it's going to sell gangbusters. I went to pre-order my copy yesterday and was told that the store was initially allocated three copies - and had 20 pre-orders already.l

I was actually going to say something similar to that, but I was afraid people might think I was being serious.
