My guess - and it's only a guess - is that he's using the term 'Social network' in the most general term. You can describe WoW, LittleBigPlanet or Team Fortress 2 as social networks, after all.

Another cute Augmented Reality concept. You can play Rock, Paper, Scissors vs the computer as represented by an arm bursting out of your own chest. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIof7yEsOn8&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIof7yEsOn8&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> (From here) My vibe about a lot of the augmented reality stuff I've seen is that the tech looks interesting, but no-one can really decide how to turn it in to a game. Pretty much only the game in the OP of this thread seems like it has any potential to me.

He had signed up with Vanguard Films and John H. Williams to produce Citizen Siege but apparently they had some sort of disagreement and the deal fell through. He tried for a while to develop a relationship with other producers, but the economy got in the way and he decided it was impossibhle at this time. He announced ages ago that he was working on the script for the Abe film but never claimed to have gone beyond that stage. He never actually said he was going back to the Oddworld games. He said he was getting back in to developing games (and Larry Shapiro signed up to OddMobb) so everyone assumed he was talking about Oddworld. He never actually stated that as fact though.(In case it's not obvious, I'm an Oddworld nerd. I'm an admin on the Oddworld forums and actually interviewed Lorne two years back)

Oh god... that one probably took me longer than any puzzle to work out. Just keep cracking and try out every possible order of killing the monsters.

I'm thinking about getting Machinarium, Samorost2 and Ben There, Done That. Sadly, there aren't any other games I'd been particularly holding out for. And because I'm a fan of them, I might just give a plug to Oddworld Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus for $2.50. In case you're interested, Munch's Oddysee and Stranger's Wrath are both coming to Steam in the new year. EDIT: Lucasarts Adventure Pack for only $2.50. I don't even want anything other than Loom, but that game on its own is the same price!

Hrmmm... It's an interesting read but I think it gives far too much credit to Elaine. Good episode, great series. Congrats to Jake and co! Is it strange that the biggest laugh I had from this episode was right at the end, when Elaine corrects Guybrush's pronunciation of 'La Esponja Grande'.

To me, the Telltale games captured the feel and the absurdity of the comics much more than Hit The Road. If I had a criticism of all of the games (both Lucasarts and Telltale, though TT moreso) it's that they're too safe; Max is only quirky, rather than insane, Sam is practical and generally unviolent. Anyway, that's a minor comment. Personally, I thought Season 2 was much better than Season 1. There's always got to be a certain level of absurdity in anything Sam & Max; you just have to go with the flow.

I wouldn't say I'm excited enough to Squee, but this is good news nonetheless. Not sure what to make of the voiceover on the Telltale webpage though.

I bought it too, for pretty much the same reason. Even if it ends up being shite, I have nothing to complain about for such a small price.

Some songs are better than others. I've found that music with strong drumbeats or staccato notes tends to be recognised better. In any case, focus less on the placement of the boxes with respect to the notes and more on the way that the speed and intensity of the gameplay matches the rhythm of the music.
-
I believe it's based on more than just the name of the track; at the very least it takes in to account the length of the song. Also, when you look at someone else's score, it shows the path of the song they played (ie the pattern of hills and valleys). If it doesn't match everyone else's path, you can report them.

I can't remember whether this has been posted here before, but some guys have been working on a time travelling RTS; if you don't have the resources you need now, you can go back in time and start them building earlier. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/03/27/epochal-achron-meta-time-strategy/ <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqerUDPguO0&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqerUDPguO0&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUwLGaiWKAo&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUwLGaiWKAo&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

*shrug* I was just trying to picture how the Pope could fit in to the context of that game.

Ohhhh... Round here we just call that a beanie.

Irish and drunk to the level that enemies can detect you by sniffing the booze on your breath... yes, definately both stereotypical and racist. -

Grrr... The one distinctive thing about this game was the black & white vs. coloured portions of the world. I wanted to see how the differences are handled, but that's the exact moment the video ends. Also, the transition from black and white to coloured lookes shite. A sudden, pseudo-magical explosion of colour? Would have been much better to subtly increase the palette over time, as your actions take effect over the Nazis and the local citizens - going through stages from B&W, to faded, washed out colours and eventually to bright, realistic colour. -
Wasn't the whole point that they were trying to do both? Keep putting out the same old mass-produced and massed-selling crap but also fund the original stuff that had potential to become a breakout hit. It's the same philosophy as 20th Century Fox setting up Fox Searchlight Pictures to release non-mainstream stuff. So here's my question: Is EA cancelling the original IP because they expected it would sell better? If it didn't sell well, is that a mark against the games, the way they were marketed or just that EA are bad at making predictions? (By the latter, I mean that they would have been happy with a game that sold 600,000 copies if they'd been expecting it to sell 500,000 copies rather than assuming that every single game would sell in the millions.) Also, are they dropping all of their focus on original IP, or just some of it that they thought didn't have as good a chance of success?

Except that now he has skill in solving adventure-game style puzzles, which may well make the next episode that much more tricky. I presume we'll be heading off to Monkey Island™ before too long? Other than that assumption, I can't quite imagine where we'll be going from here, given that . I have high expectations of suprise in Episode 5. To me, his dialogue made it sound like . Jumping in to the issue of

(Click on picture for full picture, including back cover) GameInformer November cover story is Epic Disney. In the leadup to that, they will be revealing some web-exclusive stuff on this page, starting with an interview with Warren Spector about his love for Disney. I can't tell you how much I want this game. But at the same time, I can't help but think that the Wii's graphics won't go near to capturing the vibe of the production designs seen so far.

The graphics looks disappointing. They really never should have released production designs that were so incredibly unrepresentative of the final product. That said, I like the concept of the game world as a limbo where rejected Disney concepts, characters and rides are banished. Feels like it has a lot of potential for interesting gameplay and story elements. Really, if we hadn't seen the original art we'd probably be excited about this game and what little we've seen of it. By the way, has anyone read the GameInformer print article?

I'm not sure whether this counts as a creepy statue, but it sure looks painful. From Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vM2gq9fVzA&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vM2gq9fVzA&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Yeah, I was going to mention Blink also. Also Sam & Max: Abe Lincoln Must Die.And Bioshock with Sander Cohen's plastered human victim statues .
