  1. I'm not sure, but I think you are saying that you are not a male white straight space marine. It does seem like you are suggesting that you stepping into the shoes of male white straight space marines while only being male white and straight is kind of the same exercise in detachment as it would be for someone who is gay and/or female and/or of colour. I'd say not caring for their sex, orientation or colour of skin and looking at their space-marine-ness comes easily only to those who are that threepart-'norm'. And while 'being white' might not often be the point of a story it still very much is a point, in that most active or important or capable characters in most games are white. I guess how important that is for you, or even how much that registers, again depends on whether you are white or not. Same goes for 'male', just that in this case the female side still often get served outright shit in that they are just there to look nice and/or scream and get rescued. Oh, and every relationship is straight, just 'cause.
  2. Other podcasts

I really really like it. Thanks a lot!
  3. Even though it might not be the bend you are looking for and I'm sure everybody knows them, I just want to mention that I really like how RPS is taking a stand lately. They don't tire criticizing or ridiculing stupid video-games-and-women-bullshit and they are very open about their position in this regard: Misogyny, Sexism, And Why RPS Isn’t Shutting Up. Oh, and they feature Cara Ellison, who recently asked some poor Crytek-guy whether he's into BDSM.
  4. Games giveaway

I have a spare FTL in my Steam inventory, PM me to get it. First come first serve (though I might get picky if you just registered today). Edit: and gone.
  5. Avatar graveyard

The trailer looks incredible. Reminded me a bit of 'Tekkon Kinkreet', which is great. Is it the kind of development hell where the series will come out of eventually, or the eternity-kind?
  6. LucasArts is no more

My favourite: Grim Fandango. Seeing that image you posted Thrik I immediately had the intro music and the change of tune when the logo changes in my head. That game!
  7. LucasArts is no more

Mh, as everybody else said, nowadays LucasArts whatever, but still, Monkey 2 and Fate of Atlantis were probably two of the first PC games I played back in 1996 when we got a PC, Jedi Knight (which was fantastic and you are stupid and mean dartmonkey more like fartmonkey), Monkey 3 and Grim I anticipated and bought when they were released and I loved them, yeah, farewell LucasArts, part of my childhood just got cut down by a Mouse. Okay, sounds neat, but it went down a long time ago, all by itself and "after a careful evaluation of current market place realities".
  8. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

It was one of the informal stretch goals, I believe. Anyway I'm positive it will be fully voiced.
  9. Plug your shit

I only listened to one episode thus far - the several hours long half drunken top-ten-movies-one - and I liked it. Could you maybe post the lists of the movies discussed in this episode - I didn't know all of them and want to look them up, but couldn't find a list on your site and the episode is far too long to just skip through it.
  10. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

Oh boy it's pretty! And the atmosphere is indeed great. The "From Double Fine Productions and 90,000 of their closest friends" at the end made me get a tiny bit emotional.
  11. The Thread Where ThunderPeel Attacks Everyone™

Yeah, come back soon Thunder, you're an important part of this community. (I mean, you are other parts as well, but those seem to be effects of things you have to struggle with yourself, so whatever, hope you figure things out for you. But don't change too much, communities need some crazy argumentative people that are not just trolls and/or stupid. [To clarify, I think you are neither.]) And for what's it's worth, I didn't much notice 'things going bad', at least not from your end. It rather seemed that the recent influx of air fired up your argumentative spirit more than usual. Didn't just happen to you, I'd say. Oh, did you know that the German word for 'air' is 'Luft'? Get it?
  12. Double Fine's Dropchord

This advertisement-video from the Gizmondo-article Mington linked to really makes Leap look like an awesome peripheral. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=_d6KuiuteIA But this being, as said, an ad, I'd still be interested in what people who tried it have to say about it (*cough*Double Fine has to have some of those, eh Chris*cough*). Anyway, the way they show it here makes it look like a useful and not horse bag kind of thing, like something with which you can handle a computer in certain aspects better than with a mouse, while being a lot less 'there' than a tablet for example. But as always* with things like this I wonder whether it would really be something I'd use, or that would in general get used in the long run. Ah yeah, about Dropchord. If this manages to trigger the same area in my brain as Geometry Wars did, that'd be very cool. GW was probably the only game that got me into The Zone, the one that when you get distracted in any way while in it you immediately start to reflect on the impossibility of the stuff you just pulled and get dragged back into your mind and thus fail instantly. I used to cover the part of the screen with the score, because just getting a glimpse of that number used to pierce my precious zone-bubble. I mean, Dropchord: *Though I usually don't get excited about stuff like this. And yeah, I am a bit excited, can't you tell?
  13. Tomb Raider

Thanks, Cara’s writing is indeed great, cool article. (I too only read RPS, and I saw the headline, but mixed up Rhianna Pratchett with that adventure-lady who had a kickstarter and whose name I can't remember right now and I wasn't interested. That the picture below the headline shows Tomb Raider didn't register, I just wondered why the adventure-lady would make such a gritty looking game.)
  14. Things That Improve Your Life

Very fantastic site, thank you a lot! Seems like a site that will stay in my internet-life forever now. I like that it has a 'Random Item'-button and that it doesn't have comments.
  15. Double Fine's Dropchord

Never heard of it. Looks indeed interesting, I mean I never thought about wanting motion sensor stuff to sensor my motions and them Leapeople make lots of bold claims on their prettily designed webpage but they have Double Fine's vote of confidence, so I'm intrigued. And I like how small and unintrusive and un-desk-clutter-y it seems to be. Has anyone here had a chance to try this thing, maybe you Chris? Interesting, thanks for the info.
  16. Gears of War: Judgement

So either you disagree about Gears or you disagree about disagreeing - everybody wins!
  17. Other podcasts

Thanks for the heads up. He still has the prettiest pictures.
  18. BioShock Infinite

That youtube-reaction-video is very great. And thanks Lu and jeremywc.
  19. Deus Ex 3

Yep. Especially when for the rest of the entire game you meticulously make sure that every single person you knock out is really only sleeping and can not accidentally slide into an electrified puddle or explosion or some other pixel-deadly video game contraption all the while your secret kill-counter actually already is at >0 which renders the whole endeavour an exercise in stupid. (I'm not really angry or something, I just have other shit to do.)
  20. Deus Ex 3

That's how you call it? Yeah, I mean that one. The one where you don't have any sneaky weapons yet.
  21. Deus Ex 3

Just a minor hint. If you are going for the pacifist achievement, you are not allowed to kill even in the first kind-of-tutorial-level. Yeah, written out like this it seems obvious, but there are certain people who did not think about that. Just saying. Not that it matters, stupid achievements! And Yes, mouse and keyboard worked perfectly fine for me as well.
  22. Movie/TV recommendations

Woah, I actually don't know Veronica Mars, but seeing The Number rise like this is very very impressive. And I'm surprised that this seems to kick all those game kickstarters right in the butt. Movies, he, I thought they are, like, yesterday's media, you know. (*cough*Firefly-kickstarter*cough*)
  23. New Forums! Post feedback, notes, etc here

Why is it that quotes travel a single minute back in time? A link to the main Thumbs page somewhere in the forums would still be nice btw. (Rewind time, get it? Yeah yeah I'll stop now, if they do.)
  24. Gilbert leaves Double Fine, which makes me grumpy...

Thanks. Great, congrats Nick! Four-people-podcast then, no?
