I would like to try TF2. So if your guest pass isn't taken already... I don't trust the internets, I'll just send you the email via pm

Hey, me too! What? - I mean, hello modium

The polaroid-guy to the left looks a bit like me and a bit like 'Hans Castorp', a character out of Thomas Mann's 'The Magic Mountain', as I imagined him. And DFAC are great.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Guns of the Saucer Men From Mars
castorp replied to Cigol's topic in Video Gaming
Thanks for the insight, Thrik, I'll try to get Subsistence. (And fuck, a few months ago I had it in my hands. Gamestop, less than 20€, but couldn't decide to buy it, not even knowing which MGS3 version is the newer one.) -

Is MGS 3: Subsistence worth the extra money? Seems like I could get it used for 50€. From a quick look it is Snake Eater plus two of the old MGS' plus a new camera angle (?) plus a lot of bonus fan-stuff (plus at least 30€). I think there is a way to play those old games via something involving a big african bird - is the rest worth the money? Is the game itself, is MGS3 a lot better in the Subsistence version? You guys make MGS3 sound like an excellent game, it would bug me somehow to play an inferior version. (I bought MGS2 years ago for the PC but I never could play it, because of some major graphic-bug making everything except the rain-effect completely transparent. I searched the internet, but couldn't solve it - do you guys happen to have an idea?) [sorry for the derailing questions, but this seemed like a good opportunity] -
I think, I was in that very session (not the 'spinner', the guest). I experienced the same kind of lag, but just one time mid-game (causing me to crash), but that could have been my connection/background-application/whatever as well. The idea to adjust the starting-length so that this annoying spinner-'strategy' becomes dysfunctional sounds good, as this was the only real problem I had with the game. A bigger playing area would be nice, but you have to find the right balance between size and keeping it tense. All the area should still be visible all the time I think, making it impossible to get out of the sight of the other players (which would allow an altered spinning-tactic and would make it harder to force someone into a crash). More obvious walls would be nice too. Regardless of the things said above, I had great fun with the game. Thanks BigJKO.

Great idea. I really like the army pictures - even more with the things she wrote about them in mind. In a hunt for good internet-art I recently stumbled upon Matthew Woodson - http://ghostco.org/. His pictures have an intriguingly ominous tone.

Just saw 'The Band's Visit'. Great film. Funny, wistful, calm, happy. It tells the unspectacular story of an egyptian police band that comes to Israel, gets a little lost and thus has to stay one day and night in some province town, where they meet a group of residents who all are similarly lost. Characters unfold, stories get told, odd and funny situations happen.

Just wanted to say thank you for the somehow not-so-dead-anymore Thumb. Thanks for the great articles, thanks to all the authors and the other people involved. (I’m not very [means: not at all] vocal in the article-related threads, but I felt the urge to let the involved people know, that I highly enjoy the new Thumb-content)

(miffy, you made me laugh in reality-world, thanks)

[sorry to bother you guys with this hardware-shit, but as this the only forum I visit and my Internet just turned annoyingly slow…] I have a (passively cooled) GeForce 6600 in a Windows XP-SP2 operated computer and everything worked quite well (the GeForce overheated from time to time, but I got used to it) until today, when my monitor went into standby without reason. After a forced reboot even the first bios-loading-screen (-thing) showed vertical red lines, as did every loading screen hereafter, some were green, some white. Still readable, but messed up. And when the loading process reached Windows, the monitor went into standby again. In 'secured mode' (the mode reachable through F8 – I’m not sure about the English name) Windows loads, so I deleted the graphic card in the hardware-section. Without graphic card drivers Windows loads (the vertical lines while loading are still there), I have all the fancy colures (32bit), most of the resolution-options, so it works. But if I try to reinstall the drivers (I tried two versions of the Nvidia-Forceware) Windows won’t show and the monitor goes standby. Does anyone have an idea what’s going on? I can work without graphic card drivers for a while (no games of course), but every piece of scrolling is painfully slow (scrolling down a webpage makes me feel 56k again). Is there a way to make at least the scrolling normal again without a properly installed graphic card?

Thanks ysbreker. Anyone with a different opinion (please!)? Okay, so the fucker is broken. As already asked, is there a way to make the scrolling go smooth and fast again, with my new broken gpu? Maybe something with virtual memory (yeah, I still don't have an idea what I'm talking about)? It still can do colures and 1024x768 and youtube and windows (except for the scrolling...did I mention the scrolling...it kills me). Okay, so the fucker is broken. But I need a working pc, but neither have the time nor the money to properly upgrade, so I thought about a downgrade. I found two cheap gpu's on Amazon, which one would you suggest? MSI GF FX5200-TD128LF MSI RX9250-TD128 Or does anyone have a better idea? Scrolling? Anyone? And thanks for putting up with my silly problems.

I found 'N' to be a great game, quite challenging (nearly frustrating) in some levels, but all the more satisfying once you survived and made it in time. N's graphics are monotonous, but everything else would be distractive, and the handling of the nicely animated Ninja is flawless. In some ways I thinks it's comparable to 'Geometry Wars' (and possibly many other arcade-game alike) as both lack story and characters, etc, but share those rare pure-gameplay experiences, those phases you are totally mesmerized and involved and wonder how you just pulled this highscore or this run off, once you fall out of this state.

Half Life 2 is great fun. Thanks Dan. (mh, looks like I'm finished soon...is there still an Ep1 left?)

I neither have HF1 nor Ep1. Is anyone left who hasn't found a taker?

The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)
castorp replied to Wrestlevania's topic in Idle Banter
Recently I like to listen to Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' , Arctic Monkeys' Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, everything from and maybe some Melissa Etheridge.Might be to mainstream for you, who are flinging never-heard bands around like it's cool (you snobs). -
The campside is one of my favorite 'levels'. I loved returning to it after each outside-mission and finding out what the other kids had to say and what changed. And I liked playing around with the new powers and see how everyone reacts.

So, who is to blame for setting us up? Who are the men behind this deception?
-
Okay, the game sounded like this forums wet dream. Isn't it kind of suspicious that it sprung up on this very forum? And now it's all a lie. Some thumbeteer (maybe a Norwegian) just wanted to make headlines. I feel so used.

Just saw 'Death Proof' yesterday and, as mentioned earlier, HOLY FUCK! Most fun I had in a cinema ever. Not the best movie but so much joy and satisfaction and giggle. And millions of movie-references I didn’t get, but that wasn’t a problem. Sadly, due to foreign stupidity we didn't get the whole 'Grindhouse' in one piece and now I have to wait for the second half six long weeks.

hehe, nice edit: oh, and I 'know' 'things'

Sounds like . Somehow. On second thought, maybe not.

Try to get them and yourself in the air (worked with the heavy-attack-button, I think) and then grab them. This way you punch them to the ground whilst staying in the air yourself, they bounce back and you can repeat it, until they are dead. This should work (but it's some time ago I played GoW, so I'm not too sure it worked with those guys as well...)

I finally read the book and it is indeed really great. Afterwards I saw the trailer for the upcoming movie. Okay, now I shouldn't be surprised, but, man, did they change everything but the name of the character. As far as the teaser looks this is going to be as much 'I am legend' as '28 days later' was.
