  1. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

    (hilarious) Poor dog.
  2. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

To embed youtube videos you wrap [YOUTUBE] tags only around the silly letter-and-number-combination at the end of normal youtube-links. (When you 'quote' me, you can see for yourself.) I like the song.
  3. There is an easy way to check whether you might be interested in reading the updates. Chris made one big thread where all the important (meaning: made by actual DF-people) updates are collected. You find it in the 'DFA: From Double Fine and 2 Player Productions' subsection of the 'Private Kickstarter Backers-Only Area' forum. To quote our own Chris Remo on the matter: I usally read the DF-starter-posts you find via this collecta-thread and then skim it for other DF-input. (And to finally actually answer your question...) The DF-updates are highly interesting, I recommence you read them. One of the latest ones shows new art be Nathan Stapley, very cool!
  4. Show me your desk/gaming space

So, Thompson, what did Julia answer? (I really like like the Japanese artpiece.) Wait, I think there was a brackets and size mixup.
  5. Survey

Done as well. Can you maybe elaborate on the nature of the school project, I don't know, what is the point, or your point on the matter? Just curious. Oh, and not for the sake of argument, I do not want to argue about piracy on the internet! (At least the intellectual property kind.)
  6. Life

Oh, Germany, I know that country. One could even say I am there right now. Rodi (Or anyone else, for that matter. You all seem nice [enough].), if you happen to find yourself east of The Wall you should visit certain places - I could show you around Halle or Leipzig.
  7. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Oh, really? (But you mean, like, his parents are are from some other place. No?) Anyway, I don't care, I just want to hug him and look at him with dreamy eyes.
  8. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

His accent is adora--great. Makes him sound very likable. Eastern European, maybe even Russia, no?
  9. Favorite early cancelled TV series

As far as originalty goes (regarding your question) it is basically Firefly in highschool, but aaaaaaanyway, I liked Freaks & Geeks. Great show, was killed way too early.
  10. Zorro Joins Double Fine

Well good for you, Chris... No, really, cool stuff, congrats!
  11. Deus Ex 3

I wish I had known beforehand that I was supposed to not kill in the pre-aug level as well to be considered a pacifist. I mean post-operation I had the tools and the skills to unconsciouscate everyone, but at the beginning they gave me just a gun – and I used it. Yeah, that’s the kind of pacifist I am. (Not that I care about stupid achievements. Stupid mean achievements.)
  12. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

You lady seem to to have a vast library of pictoral animal-extraordinarities. I applaud you!
  13. Wasteland 2

Just for the record, after being not super-excited some weeks ago about Wasteland 2 and Brian Fargo, I am now super-excited about Wasteland 2 and Brian Fargo. It all just gets better and better.
  14. In spirit with this threads title: A comment regarding Stacking. Okay, probably not that interesting, but it confused me and made me smile and I wanted to share it with you. So many big words, so much ideology just for little Stacking. Maybe someone can even enlighten me where he's coming from or what his point is...
  15. Gifts - Stuff for Free

New people and list updated-bump. (Some stuff is probably already gone, what do I know.) Yeah, new people, there is a list with free stuff, mostly Steam, in the first post. (Some might not gift to non-regulars, but I suppose most really don't mind at all - you people figure that out.) Berniesbc, is Magicka still available? I am a bit interested - is it good in single player as well or just fun in coop?
  16. What would Molydeux

I wish I'd look like this dude. (Oh, wait, I petty much do. Btw, it's from one of Mark Hamers Polaroids.) But yeah, people's avatars greatly influence my perception of them. And when people change pictures, I get confused.
  17. Leisure Suit Larry in "gimme your money"

So this remake was announced at least half a year ago and now they want to kickstart it. That's strange. Haven't played a Larry game in a very long time, so my memories are cloudy... ...Are the Larry games good adventures? ...The sexism, it is pretty dumb, no? Or is there commentary or something validating it? I did like (parts of) the kickstarter-video, though.
  18. I've no idea how Amazon-referrals work, but if you can get referrals for the same book on German Amazon, I'd buy it thusly.
  19. Wasteland 2

So if they hit $2.1 million Chris Avellone of Obsidian/Fallout/Planescape-fame is on board. Very-very exciting! He is supposed to "to help push the density and literary content of the game." Okay, now I'm as emotionally invested in this Kickstarter and its success as I was with Tim Schafer's. The update.
  20. IDLE THUMBS KICKSTARTER!

I see you point Chris, and it does make sense. Guess I just wouldn't mind even if the progress-casts would be free for all. But yeah, with all Kickstarter-promises that is not really an option.
  21. Assassin's Creed: Mohawk

To basically say that because of historical accuracy there can't be women having cool roles in historical games might be a point to make, but for me it feels a bit like carrying over old (and sadly not so old) restrictive gender roles into nowadays entertainment. Sure, quite bit of creative thinking would be necessary to make it work in certain fictions, but I guess it would be nice if more developers would try. Maybe it's just that the under-representation of women in games bugs me more than the bending of history-fiction would. And I think the AssCreed III setting lends itself pretty good to a female assassin, at least in my head. The picture PPAHB posted is a nice start - it could be even less feminine for the blending-in and the killing-bears-in-the-woods-parts. But then you could also see her in a dinner dress killing people with sexy poison on the steam boat. Or something.
  22. New people: Read this, say hi.

    Hello new people. And welcome!
  23. IDLE THUMBS KICKSTARTER!

While I appreciate the sentiment, I'm not sure we need a special backer-place here. And somehow I don't like the idea of putting up walls in these forum, walls that keep people out who maybe just missed the opportunity or couldn't afford it. What do you guys say? Or rather, what's the idea behind this special forum? Edit: Yeah sure, I read the Update... ...but, I don't know, I guess I already feel special and connected enough. I hope those are no beans to spill.
  24. Movie/TV recommendations

Some days ago I saw The Hunger Games and was both entertained and mildly annoyed by it. As alluded to by others before, some scenes weren't well embedded or contextualized, at least for people (like me) who didn't know the base material. In some shots they blatantly aimed for gravitas and emotion without properly introducing the relationships of the people involved. The whole movie felt like they had to cut half of it due to its length but didn't want to cut complete story threads (probably because they get picked up in part II) so they just cut parts of each of them. Still, I enjoyed it, and especially the first half till the actual Games begin. (And to add something positive to this thread...) A great movie that doesn't seem to have gotten a mention here (strangely...maybe my search is broken, excuse any redundancy) is The Station Agent. It's a (mostly) calm, warm movie from 2003 about the developing friendship of three seemingly very different characters who all have their baggage to carry. While the movies tone is rather positive it also contains, loss, discrimination, prejudice, alienation. It's in no way moralizing, it's rather – just there – people are like that. The cast is great (Peter Dinklage, Patricia Clarkson, Bobby Cannavale) and the characters and relationships and how they develop are all quite believable.
