  1. Nintendo 3DS

Yeah, that is not an attractive 3DS, especially given the fact that they already did this well:
  2. Happy Birthday!

    Happy birthday, Chris!
  3. The threat of Big Dog

Oh, the slow gait, and the strange, horrifying dragging, accompanied by that characteristic high-pitched whine. MIT is making a robotic pyramid head. Cool, cool.
  4. Wait, that article says they're going to stream 8 hours of stuff on Twitch. I hope that at some point during those 8 hours they indicate when the WiiU game is going to drop, although from all of the screenshots and videos of the 3DS version, I'm more excited about that.
  5. The best part about that video is the wacky upbeat music throughout, covering the diegetic convention + car sounds.
  6. Nintendo 3DS

You definitely are not, also you had better play the shit out of that game or I'll be real disappointed.
  7. Nintendo 3DS

  8. Nintendo 3DS

So, I want to redeem that code, but my 3DS is telling me that I need to charge its batteries more so that I can do that. I fear that in the mean time, I will lose out on a thing that I definitely want. Edit: Damn. Oh wellllll, lost out. It was redeemed before my 3DS would allow me to do it. I just really want to play Mighty Gunvolt and I really don't want to play Azure Striker Gunvolt. Thanks, though, Mington!
  9. I haven't watched that Trololololo video in a while, thanks, Sean. It's a pretty ideal response to this.
  10. Making friends?

I really second this. Volunteer on your weekends. Volunteer at a museum. Volunteer at a writing center. Volunteer at a museum. I volunteer at a science museum every week, and not only is it an awesome place, but I meet people all the time. And, bonus, you get practice talking to people you don't know, in a space where people are ok with someone talking to them. Go to comedy shows, I know there's a really awesome scene for comedy in Vancouver, and comedy nerds are a nice group. The most important thing is to be proactive. As long as you're not annoying (and you're an Idle Thumbs reader, so how could you be?), people will want to talk. Just employ the greatest secret to making friends: ask people about themselves, and really listen.
  11. I'm super glad, tberton, that I'm not the only person who's real nitpicky about the game. I have a feeling it would be the MOST DIFFICULT THING to make a game, considering you're trying to please so many people who can examine every frame of your game and find things that might be "wrong." I was glad to hear, from Jake, this afternoon, that the repeated star pattern in the game is probably going to change, but I have a feeling that the stomping the campfire out might be a harder thing to change (soaking the campfire in water! Checking to see the temperature of the embers!). I do like your explanation (Henry is new at this), but I'd bet that our little complaints (from ~5 minutes of footage) is just the tip of the iceberg for game designers trying to tackle a "real" concept, like Firewatch does.
  12. It was so fascinating to watch when Chris and Jake streamed Pikmin 2 multiplayer on twitch because of the fact that Jake did the rotation of the z-axis deal (discussed in the podcast) in order to prevent Chris from seeing what mischief he was up to, but he also undercut it all by getting quiet and giddy.
  13. Nintendo 3DS

I've had Ryan North of dinosaur comics on my friend's list, and he sent the BEST ONES:
  14. Grim Fandango being remastered for PS4 and Vita

"I don't want people always asking me about Grim Fandango."
  15. The trailer was so fantastic. I was really happy to hear how confident that Campo Santo seems in their vision and the way they're executing on their vision. Allowing for a huge amount of player choice is a big chunk to bite off, but it seems as if they have the tools in place to make it possible. Super excited. (WARNING: NERDY NITPICKING TO FOLLOW) So, they showed a little bit of the night sky in the current build they showed off, and I took some screenshots, since I am the worst, and wanted to see if I could tell what time of year the game took place in based on the star positions. I was disappointed to realize that the night sky is composed of a set pattern that repeats. I wonder if they'll update the game to show the true constellations. As a person who's written a bunch of software to make sky maps, it's fairly straightforward to do, but I have a feeling it's probably a big challenge to implement that within a video game. (END NITPICKING)
  16. ALSO the game looks incredible. Like, I've never seen something that looks so much like fully realized concept art as this game does.
  17. I had to close the chat stream, because the people in chat are...the worst people.
  18. Nintendo 3DS

It's so frustrating that there is "marketing confusion" at all. Do people not do any research about anything, ever? How hard is it to ask a human being, or look at the internet, to find out what something is before you purchase it? If you're going to spend hundreds of dollars on an item, why not...say...type the name of that item into Google? I'm really excited about this new 3DS! I'd love to know more about that little nub. The white version, with the Super Famicom controller button colors is quite handsome. Also, I wonder how well the face-tracking / gyro stabilization of the 3D works, especially because the stereoscopic 3D works in a very specific way.
  19. Oh man. Oh. Man. (A) What a great episode! I think that Sean's description of the feeling that must occur when someone has the ability to bring a plane out of the sky (or ) was particularly apt, because that's the reason a lot of bullshit occurs on the internet. Just because it's a lazy way of enacting power by manipulating the trust that society puts in people to not be assholes. AND THE BEST IS THAT THEY ARE ERODING THAT TRUST A++ EVERYONE, COOL, COOL The moment that Chris said that AAA game developers can completely ignore this whole issue was kind of a sad one, since they shouldn't ignore this issue. I'm sorry, people who are angry that feminist critique might change the games you play, but as was mentioned on the cast, a lot of the shit that goes on in video games is shitty to not just women, but a broad swath of human culture. Like, Grand Theft Auto IV, one of the most popular games last year, is completely offensive on every possible level, and fuck if I want that to be the thing that represents video games in this day and age. So it sucks that perhaps nothing will happen to games. I want things to happen to games. I want culture to change. ( If you ever want to watch a thorough and complete dismantling of stupid, insular, orobourus-of-poop arguments, this thread delivers. Nice job, everyone in this community, for just standing up and doing the important work of patiently, non-snidely (for the most part) deconstructing a bunch of nonsense from people who's opinions may not actually change / they'll just take their ball and go home. Because it throws out idiots and makes people who's opinions may be underrepresented feel more comfortable talking about games and the things they like. © Man this video still makes me excited to play Donkey Kong Country.
  20. Every week I excitedly look at the Things Discussed list and every week there's always a weird curveball. Idle Thumbs, keep on truckin'.
  21. This is so dumb. I made Jake's dream a reality. (PT Ending Spoilers, I guess, if you're worried about that sort of thing.) (you can scan to around 1:30 to get to the goods)
  22. Cartoons!

After I recorded the Erin McGathy podcast, she took me into the Rick and Morty writing room, where Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland were talking with the other writers. Justin Roiland is a weirdo. He wanted me to tell him about Isaac Newton, but as I was answering a question, he just kind of went off on a tangent about a weird dream he had. It's strange to meet a person who's voice is the voice of things you know. I just kept waiting for him to shout UNACCCEPPTTABBLE in that constipated, Lemongrab way.
  23. I like that the other name for a censer is a thurible, which is how Daffy Duck would say "terrible."
  24. Let's say you've seen this before, then TOUGH watch it AGAIN
