Well, BC2 severely limits your tactical choices unless you unlock everything. I was never able to get the M14 that would have suited my playing style. A big annoyance when I started playing was that I was defenseless against snipers because I couldn't get any smoke grenades for ages.

Yes, but don't play the remastered version, it's craaaaaaaap.

I'd play this if it wasn't for the grind. In an interview, someone from EA bragged about how they really hit it out of the park this time and ensured people will be grinding away for years. They were upset that even though a lot of people are still playing BC2, they don't have to grind anymore... This is not a game for me.

Achievements... If you are the head of security of a company like that, facing a team of commandos gunning your people down, and you decide the best option is to very slowly and methodically bonking each on the head (but not hard enough to kill them) while they are running around killing everyone... This isn't the time to play nice.

And the thing is, even though I was doing OK I was never in a position to beat the bugs. So there's no way I could ever have, say, expanded into foreign territory to try to mine faster. Couldn't afford the mines to begin with.

Cold cocking people is definitely one of the most fun aspects of HR.

On one hand these later games don't seem to have much of the tension of Neptune's Pride (judging from the podcasts). On the other, I don't really want to play Neptune's Pride. Maybe these aren't for me.

I didn't really know what to think about this game at first, even though Ron Gilbert is involved. Maybe it's the name, but it didn't sound appealing at first. Now I've seen these, and I'm a believer: The Battle - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfT3QqudNSY The RPG - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iJONvyGjOk The Adventure - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQj0UgIs9a8 I really liked the first episode of the Penny Arcade game, so I expect I'll be buying this too if it runs on this god-awful laptop which is my only potential gaming platform here in Scotland.

Ugh, I don't agree. I don't want to launch my games through some sub menu.
-
I've preordered it! Preordering lets you play the game in its current form. I haven't, though, because for some reason I feel as though it might spoil it.

Too bad all my money is going into troops. Getting creamed and they get stronger all the time!
-
What. Goddammit.

This isn't a super-funny flash of genius from some anonymous nerd, just an observation yesterday. Look at these slackers playing tetris outside my balcony when they should be building a block of flats:

This is not exactly institutional, but it seems like my girlfriend always gets treated like shit at the social security office, whereas I've never had a bad experience apart from having to wait.

But the people he quotes are largely dudes he knows. People he follows on Twitter! That isn't the dregs of internet. The "funny pictures", sure, but the Twitter quotes resonate more strongly to me (in a negative way...).

I have this now. We should make a multiplayer thread when this gets released.

Diamond Age is excellent, Anathema is very good. Or just search this thread for my opinion of his books

No, I wasn't! Yeah, I realized I forgot about that episode. The one with the doll house was OK though not great. "The Girl Who Waited" was excellent.
-
What a lovely Doctor Who this week. Last week was OK too.

Ugh, made a damned bad call I think. Looks like I lost my first Black Guard unit because I expected the mechanics to work differently. The card disappeared when some bugs walked into my mine :/

I preordered it and haven't played it for half an hour. It's a mess. I can't get through the tutorial because of a bug, controlling my dude feels just way off, performance is rubbish, looks rubbish, eww eww eww.
