My failing was in missing an item of information in the thread and responding too soon. But this place if any should be one where you can give people the benefit of the doubt before throwing around accusations. So no, I'm not going to apologize for being rude to you (with a single smiley) after you accused me of spending my time here in order to cause trouble. As for deleting this thread, I'm all for it.

It's the goddamn Richter scale.

Well, I've been here for seven years and don't have a history of it. So no.

AFAIK It scores each of your components separately and then gives you the score of your weakest component. It doesn't really reflect how those components actually affect performance.

Cheers, guys, for helping me out. I didn't expect my little post to spiral into pages of argument... I'd love to have a little multitrack clip to play with and see how it could be done. Just an idea.

I honestly just missed your point about MI:SE. It never occurred to me that those games would be anything more than one-off conversions of the two games.
-
Okay, I'll dig something up.

Well, if they don't do it and there are no technical reasons not to it, they should do it because of the reasons I have mentioned. It just a suggestion for making an improvement to some people's experience of the cast. Not everyone is a native speaker or has perfect ears. If it's a big chore, it's probably not worth it. Same if it makes the file size too big. But if it's doable I can guarantee there is a marked improvement. I could even cite studies into how much of an improvement...

You can't disagree with someone on the internet without calling him a troll?

I dunno, I don't listen to podcasts apart from this one. They don't really advertise whether they are mono or stereo, and then I wouldn't know how they are recorded and mixed. I'm pretty surprised at the reaction here. I (obviously) never meant one speaker would come 100% from one speaker and another would come 100% from the other. The difference only needs to be subtle for your brain to sort out the different positions of the speakers. I don't see how this concept is controversial. My girlfriend's iPod at least has an option for mono audio, so it's not like that wouldn't still be an option if you really needed to have mono.
-
No, I mean make it stereo. It makes a ton of difference! You are using several mikes, right? This means you can place different voices in different places in the stereo image. One guy a bit to the left, one near the centre, one a bit to the right... It makes it a whole lot easier to understand what everybody is saying especially when several people talk at once. It also makes it a lot easier to differentiate between talkers. I've done some transliteration of conversations for a course. It's a huge pain to begin with, but man is it difficult with a mono source... Stereo makes all the difference. Not that anyone will be transliterating the podcasts, but stereo really makes a difference in clarity.
-
Oh, hey! Dudes! Now that you have $100,000, could you please make the podcast stereo? It's a huuuuuge boost to voice clarity.

I just can't see it being trivial to update an engine that hasn't been used for several iterations of Windows and taking it to modern day. I'm sure they could use the same script, but everything else would need to be rewritten. And even then they'd have to buy the rights from LucasArts.

A three million dollar DOS game? AGS would make a whole lot more sense actually. I don't know what the limitations of Scumm are specifically, but twenty years of progress in APIs, IDEs and such has borne some fruit.
-
So here's another game where you walk around on an island and don't do shit. This one I liked a whole lot more than Dear Esther. So maybe you won't. http://www.visitproteus.com/
-
What on earth would they do with SCUMM at this point? Not even the later LucasArts games used it.
-
How the hell do you spend $100,000 on a podcast?
-
Oo, Miffy, what are your thoughts on teaching? Are you a proponent of any particular epistemology and/or methodology?
-
DOTT had voice acting!
-
They are idiots! There are so many good reasons not to like this.

THOMPSON I'M SURE YOU'RE A SWELL DUDE EVEN IF YOU MADE AN UNFORTUNATE MISTAKE HERE

Man, Far Cry 2 is even more awesome to play on a PC. The second time around, I can't stop coming up with little improvements to the game, though. Unfortunately, I'm certain they're opposite to what Far Cry 3 will be
-
They should have the money for it now Throw 50,000 at it!
-
In honour of the occasion, I started playing Far Cry 2 again, this time on the PC. It's glorious.

I don't see letting Steam have monopoly on all digital video game sales as good business. Would you really just cave and let Valve have that if you were EA?
