The Arma 2 + Operation AH thread of 'let's try this again'
brkl replied to Lu 's topic in Multiplayer Networking
No Arma for me today, have fun guys! -
People, we're going to try playing Mount & Blade with Thumbs! It's still on sale for about 19 hours! Get it! http://store.steampowered.com/app/22100 We could try putting something together next week or the next. We probably won't need to have our own server. We can make our own shitty clan and roam around or something. The collection that includes With Fire & Sword would probably be the one to get, though I suppose it depends on what people have when we play.

I agree. It's the design that bothers me, not how it looks.

Where can I find screenshots? EDIT: http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Elder-Scrolls-Online-Screenshots-Art-Look-Nothing-Like-Skyrim-42184.html

It's how I feared: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/05/04/a-lot-of-tamriel-estate-the-elder-scrolls-online/

I don't know if technology developed in any way that would obvious from say year 0 to 1000. The exponential development of technology is such a new thing for us, I don't think it has to be forced on a fantasy world.

I expect this to combine my least favourite parts of Elder Scrolls games with everything I hate about MMORPGs.

Troy and Abed! Oh man, tears in my eyes.

I stopped playing when I realized these games mostly just make me angry.

PC if you have a good gamepad. Otherwise I don't know. These games (everything after Sam & Max Season 3) control much better with a gamepad IMO. I don't mean that they are bad with a mouse and keyboard, though.

I also liked Season 1 towards the end, but IIRC I thought Season 2 was a bit rubbish and a huge let down after what it took to give Whedon the possibility to do it.

It helps to have visibility set really high. I've turned down most options apart from that and terrain. -

Pah, we don't need no fancy schmancy boot camp! -
I am de-spoilering the following for the sake of a bad joke. I wasn't expecting that in a zombie game

Training? What training? -
It certainly does. I find it extremely unresponsive, bad at messaging what's going on and what affects what. Obviously I'm bad at it, but I can't see a reason to put any time to learn such a cumbersome system. The balance seems ludicrous as it seems to favour running around naked as opposed to armoured. It's really weird, but I prefer it in Napoleon because everybody has the same (lack of) armour and mostly similar melee weapons.
-
In some ways it's better. There's less melee, which IMO is pretty bad in these games. Having obscenely slow and inaccurate firearms puts a new spin into multiplayer shooting. However, I think the game modes could be better. Siege seems the best one, but it would really benefit from being more like Rush in Battlefield. The map is just too small and doesn't have enough stages. Of course it's the same in Warband. I miss the "Horde mode" from Fire & Sword. I thought that was really fun to play with friends and a bit more relaxed. None of the games have anything apart from choosing a flag to make it easy to stick with your friends. In the Co-op mode the game is only about you and your mates, so it's ok to be a bit rubbish. Napoleon could easily have some kind of units you spawn into and some kind of effort for a command structure and such. You already choose a troop, but that only affects your look and your gear, not for example where and when you spawn.

Ahahah, yeah, I watched that show! Good fun.

I was surprised to see Famous' lone name credited as writer. Good job

Aww

We'll do Warband then. I'm sure you can join Skype even without a microphone.

Oh man, Invader Zim. That was such a fantastic smorgasbord of weirdness. This is the saddest thread. I keep reminded of great shows that got killed. I really enjoyed Kings and Pushing Daisies is one of my all time favourites.
