  1. The Secret World

Oh, it's written by the guy who specializes in bad adventure game writing that never ends? ack, I'm a bastard these days. I stopped playing The Longest Journey when one character wouldn't stop swearing unconvincingly and kept jabbering on. But I guess a lot of people like it. I haven't heard many good things about the sequel.
  2. The Secret World

    It's Ultima Online?
  3. Thanks a lot Quebec government

I was in that castle today.
  4. I have HOW many unbeaten games? *foams at mouth*

I dunno, but probably older than that.
  5. I have HOW many unbeaten games? *foams at mouth*

New version of DOSBox? Because the old ones didn't handle games with higher resolution than 320x200 well.
  6. I have HOW many unbeaten games? *foams at mouth*

Yup, they use DOSbox, for older games at least.
  7. (IGN.com)

    Shouldn't that be dw?
  8. I've been wanting to play Outlaws for a couple of weeks actually, but haven't found it I've been playing Duke 3d and Strife, so I don't think I would mind the graphics.
  9. DSi, or: I am a Nintendo whore.

What's this thing going to cost?
  10. Movie/TV recommendations

... What the fuck are you talking about?
  11. Reasons to dislike the British press #343

    These were adults.
  12. OnLive - high-end PC gaming without the PC

The Wii especially is low tech and not high tech. No-one said the Wii couldn't be done, they just didn't think it would be successful. I don't think OnLive wouldn't be successful, I just haven't heard any explanation for its Star Trek technology.
  13. OnLive - high-end PC gaming without the PC

I just don't see how people think this is reasonable at all. I don't get how Jake can compare this to the iPhone or iPod. I didn't even know those systems had that many doubters, and at least they were based on current technology and not magic super futuretech.
  14. I demand retort for every phrase, Ossk. If I don't get them within half an hour I'm coming to France to get them. WITH A GUB.
  15. Don't you ever feel uncomfortable if you get substantial returns for practically nothing? What about getting paid for a bad thing you did? So why aren't we taking this route? This is a job for teachers. I think that's perfectly valid when someone wanders in from the street and starts asking stupid questions. Ebert's our client now? Oh fuck, I hope I didn't upset him. Funny thing is, the clients (the people who buy games) have been convinced long ago. It's only the people who don't actually have anything to do with the project who keep butting in. You're an architect. I claim your work is trash because making building can't be art. Do you feel enriched? Obviously ad hominem arguments are terrible and all... But no one has time to take every child (like Ebert!) seriously and go through every piece of minutiae to make sure all issues have been exhausted. I am currently no-one's dad, and unwilling to serve that function. See previous posts. The player of a Video game does not have the power to wrestle authorial control away from the designer. (The illusion of this power is what makes games what they are)
  16. Getting points for driving over pedestrians could make you feel guilty. Do you need to be rewarded for this?
  17. If I design a delicate structure, calculating its strength carefully, and have you questioning its durability without having any expertise on the matter at all, it is not me who's the douchebag for not teaching you architecture to understand the whole matter, it's you who is the douchebag for thinking you know better than people who've spent years studying something.
  18. OnLive - high-end PC gaming without the PC

"Backing" probably means they'll let them use the games if the thing works (not for free of course).
  19. GDC

    Prude.
  20. I really like his reviews. His love of movies shows through. But for anything else... Quiet, you!
  21. The player can kill innocents only because you let it happen. Same for anything else. Doing those things is not playing the game "wrong" or stealing authorship, it's still simply doing only what the designer lets you. The director cannot predict if someone watching a movie will pause it, ruining pacing. That doesn't make the movie any less art.
  22. It's not valid. He thinks games operate by magic. There's nothing in a game that the author hasn't put in it. Players are not free to do anything in the game -- they can only do what the author has dictated beforehand. Sculptures are still art even though I can choose the angle I view them from.
  23. OnLive - high-end PC gaming without the PC

Because when you stream video, you have a buffer, and lag in multiplayer games in not the same as input lag. It could work with slower paced games that don't use the mouse for input, but not shooters.
