I could never really stick with an Elite-like game, but the third one especially felt something special (if really bugged). Man I'd love a new game where you can transition from space flight to cruising around a planet at 5 mach with no loading screen, break from gameplay and the planet actually rendered pretty well. Also, Mars with water.

King Crimson is an awesome band, but they've been making music for a damn long time and there's a lot of variety in both style and quality. Some of the stuff grows on you after years. Yes. It's the anti-alias effect. Great to smooth out the edges of higher resolution graphics, but when used for such a low resolution it looks like you've smeared vaseline on your glasses.

I don't agree with you there, Rodi. I don't see how it could've been a mistake. It made me feel uncomfortable, but I always thought that was specifically what they were aiming for.

I like my 320x240 games to look less blurry. These days people often do the levels in a higher resolution and then resize to the lower resolution. In a way it's smoother and prettier, but it's not very clear and it's not sharp.

I think respawning killed it for me. It was ridiculous. There was a place where enemies would keep respawning so quickly you didn't have time to collect the loot from the ones you killed. It didn't fit the atmosphere. The Zone shouldn't have an army of thousands of mercenaries coming from this one place all the time.

I don't think I ever actually bought the game. After trying it out, it was just too dysfunctional both in design and performance. But I love the idea and atmosphere. I might buy it now at some point and try this.

Yeah, my brother got a 360 and I was really surprised by how horrifyingly expensive games are. No wonder the used games market is so huge.
