Hmm, okay, what kind of Core 2 Duo do you have at work and how well does it run? Now that wouldn't help at all!
  2. Battlethumbs: Idle Company

Yeah. Sad puppy. You all ought to move to the PS3
  3. Battlethumbs: Idle Company

What kind of systems do you guys have? I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+, 4 gigs of slow (DDR400) ram and a Geforge 8600 GT. Would this game even run for me? I can't quite figure it out for certain from the requirements.
  4. Monkey Island 2: SE

It's mentioned in the conversation with the bartender at the start of the game.
  5. Comics

It's the Dr. McNinja artist! I read a couple of them, quite fun.

I've seen a 1080p version of North by Northwest at a friend's place, and I suppose that must've been a Blu-ray rip. It looked lovely, every bit as sharp as any new film at 1080p.
  7. Mass Effect 2

Yeah, the mining is shit. What can you do. I miss companies fixing things like this in patches, though, but EA doesn't care.
  8. Monkey Island 2: SE

Ouch, that's certainly worrying. And Guybrush's expression is just shit. Why must you break my heart, SE team...
  9. Sam & Max 2010

    Preordered. Can't wait.
  10. I think games are a lot smarter about how they handle online shooters now (which is why bullets register correctly even if your connection is laggy). It was a huge deal when I started playing Counterstrike (pretty casually), but I remember there was a point where the netcode was improved dramatically. Also, since console games don't have dedicated servers, high pings are pretty common and people just get used to them.

Ooh, I should watch that again. It's the culmination of Leone's westerns and probably his best movie. I wonder if it's out on Bluray. BTW, there's at least one Bluray of Ran available that is an upscaled DVD... Avoid that.
  12. Wizard News!! Final Fantasy XIV

It is such a stupid thing to have the online games in the main series of Final Fantasy instead of having clearly differentiated names.

Hey, thanks a lot for the encouragement. I picked MI2 because of the interface and option for easier puzzles. The only problem is that it doesn't have any speech, which the new Special Edition is fixing of course -- too late for me, though. I guess it'll be adding a hint system as well, which is great. I'll have to do the study using the original, though, since I'm supposed to have it ready before summer. MI2 is in this sweet spot of still having verbs as interface items instead of icons, and having everything you can interact with represented in both text and graphics. This is great because if you can't understand a word, you can still see the item in the inventory or character or whatever. And you're using language to do things, creating little sentences and seeing the results. To me it seems like a terrific interface for learning language even though it was never designed for that. In other news, for the first time since I started to grow hair in places, I'm pretty content being alone. Getting over my last girlfriend took about twice the length of the relationship, which sucked, but now I'm in a new place for me. For a long, long time getting a girlfriend was important for self-esteem reasons, but now it seems most important for me to work towards being able to go where I want to and do what I want to, which means finishing up my studies. I was actually surprised to realize the shift.

Thanks, mate! Also, yay for dates!

All Terry Gilliam films have some some problems, but the richness of his worlds always carries me away. The film suffered a bit from Heath Ledger's death and how they had to work around that. I think the beginning especially dragged because of that. Gilliam's films are all like this, though. You might get it or not -- the whole either entrances you or the film doesn't work for you at all. They usually improve with additional viewings.
  16. In MY day, getting more than 80 in Counterstrike was terrible!
  17. Monkey Island 2: SE

What about Guybrush's beard I think it looks fine this time around.

I'm doing preliminary work on my candidate's thesis. It'll be about learning English through Monkey Island 2. It's cool, I'm really motivated about studying again, which certain courses I had to take nearly killed.
  19. The CPU, memory and network overhead for Teamspeak should be way lower than for Skype. But why is it you're not using the ingame system?
  20. Battlethumbs: Idle Company

Gosh, I really want to play with you guys Let's see if this is still going strong in a month or so, maybe I can afford the game then.
  21. Ubisoft DRM

If you set Steam to offline mode (which will require you to log in once to set it so, but not after that), you can play Portal offline to your heart's content. Also I don't think Steam ever kicks you out of an offline game if your connection fails while you're playing.
  22. General Video Game Deals Thread

It's an interesting game with a bunch of problems. It's certainly worth $5.
  23. Flotilla

I doubt you'll find penguins on the white planets. Just choosing white ones will give you a mellower experience.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus was  Tom Waits was perfect.

I would not trust that site for good information regarding that subject.
