  1. Co-Op story-based games?

So, I was thinking of finding a game my girlfriend and I could play through together. We tend to play lots of party/rhythm games (e.g. Karaoke Revolution, DDR, etc.) and I was trying to stretch her enjoyment of these video games into other ones . Something that has a two-player co-operative mode with a good story (a co-op RPG would be awesome, yet I don't know that too many exist). Preferably for Xbox (I've got the most working controllers for that), but I've got a PS2 or Gamecube at my disposal (but only one working Gamecube controller). Anyone got any suggestions?
  2. Psychonauts on Steam

I would guess that since BG&E is on Gametap, it's probably limited to what other avenues of digital distribution it can pursue. I would think Gametap has exclusive rights.
  3. Kieron Gillen studies System Shock

I didn't think the Godfather was that bad... It was hyped to death as a superhugemegaawesome game, but it had its moments, I thought. Maybe my expectations weren't as high.
  4. Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends

Yeah, as illustrated above. They only had text for a few weeks and then had pictures.
  5. Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends

I definitely very much super enjoy Foster's and I vote. I don't know how widespread this is, but Cartoon Network did a huge billboard campaign here (Cleveland, OH, USA) where they just had a completely random quote from a CN original series character. Blu's "I'm a hot toe picker!" is on my way home from work. Then they put a big picture of him on the billboard. Makes me smile everytime. Haven't been able to get into Billy and Mandy for some unknown reason.
  6. Have you ever played games on your mobile?

Funny, I just got back from mine playing Bust a Move. I find that for the most part only puzzle games are truly fun on the mobile level. Others I've played: Tecmo Bowl - Fairly accurate, but there's no option to play a tournament or anything. You just play a game and then another. Plus it's ridiculously easy. Baldur's Gate - Played through it, but it sucked pretty bad as far as fun goes. Elevator Action - Fun, but not enough downloadable levels to make it last. Military Madness - Never played the original, but this game was great. Ran out of fun after went through all 18 levels (no random maps or anything), but it was great fun while it lasted. Age of Empires - Fun like above, but not as fun. Needs a damn mouse. Thanks to Verizon Wireless, all my games are BREW and therefore, need to be bought. Which basically means... I need a DS to sneak here .
  7. e.v.o.: search for eden

Played it on the SNES back in the day. Loved it. One of my all time favorite strange games that kinda slipped between the cracks. Played it all the way through on ZSNES a few years back and was quite satisfied. Sometimes I think it's one of those concepts that should be rethought with modern technology, but they'd probably make it into a sandbox type game for creature creation.
  8. What are you playing today?

Is the multiplayer sweet on that one? How's it implemented? I always wanted to try it after the first one. As for me, the girlfriend and I have started on Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 and it's providing us with great joy.
  9. Back to the Future

I remember playing one of the BTF's on the NES back in the day and, literally, never getting farther then two minutes into the game before dying over and over again. Ah, memories of impossibly hard NES games that would never get made today.
  10. Co-Op story-based games?

As an update: Started playing Badlur's Gate with the girlfriend. Pretty fun, although, we haven't gotten the timing down to actually get that far. We'll probably try and finish this one and see where we go. I also picked up The Warriors and started playing with my brother. Fun, but, WOW, saying the split screen is disorienting would be an understatement. We just started and we've spent most of our time trying to avoid the split screen and waiting for the other to catch up and the screen to merge again. I'd put the split screen on permanently, but it's just too small to see enough. Shamrok43 suggested both Gladius and LOTR: the Third Age. Anyone played these? I've had an eye out for LOTR: The Two Towers since I found out that it's 2 player co-op.
  11. Sam & Max

The voice change wasn't nearly as jarring as I expected it to be, considering how much I revere the original game's voices. Definitely kept the spirit of the series. WOOO!
  12. Sam & Max

I'm sooo excited about this. Even though it means I have to find a computer that doesn't freeze for no reason by this fall, I still can't wait.
  13. Co-Op story-based games?

As you mentioned, it's not a well-advertised feature at all. I've read two full reviews of the game that don't mention this at all. Weird. These are all great suggestions and I'm assembling my list. Anyone here have any experience playing the Baldur's Gate games co-op?
  14. Co-Op story-based games?

I got it now. I'm an idiot. They need that for the DC version since I'm too cheap to shell out for the PS2 one. Anyone know if any of the LOTR games are co-op?
  15. possibly interesting e3 games

Definitely all the details on the Wii. Also, the rumor that Kojima will be playing a demo of MGS4 has me all aflutter.
  16. Co-Op story-based games?

Thanks for all the responses. As for the PC games, my computer, which is probably capable of running most of them, has decided to randomly freeze at any time for no discernable reason, so I'm not messing with that. Secret of Mana is one of the first games I thought of and I've got a way to play that, so I just might try it again. I played it before back in the day (I don't think that I finished it) and I never realized until recently that it was 2 player. Someone mentioned The Warriors, a game I was thinking about getting anyways. Is there a two-player story mode? I thought I read that you could go back and play the levels in co-op only after you finish them. They don't necessarily have to be RPG's, I just thought it would be a good place to start since the action is paced slower and it's harder to fall behind. Anyhow, this is great. Keep them coming if you have any more.
  17. Murdoch buys IGN

They also bought MySpace last month, for anyone that missed it. This is kinda weird.
  18. Guy gamers with girlfriends

Heh, like I didn't see this whole WOW addiction epidemic coming a mile away. I starting playing text-based MUDs when I was about 12 or 13 (10 or 11 years ago). ZombieMUD, my game of choice, consumed a LOT of my time on and off for a few years. Before the days of widespread broadband, I would have to hook up my 56k through a 100-foot cable to connect it into my mother's room at 9:00pm (using the only phone-line in the house) and would attempt to quietly reconnect everything without waking her up at 3 or 4 am (usually successfully, but still). I'd also spend about 5 hours on Saturday mornings at the library (T1's are great). Even when I was done, it was a lot of what I thought about. I had to get out of that sort of gaming. The worst part is, I think that if I went back to the game and my character was still there, I'd probably take up where I left off (considering that I'm now an adult with my own internet connection etc.). It's a hard habit to break and I wish you the best of luck.
  19. Please to recommend things?

Allow me to second the Sly recommendations as that is truly a sweet set of games. Ape Escape 2 is pretty good as well. As far as musically interesting action, you've got Amplitude, Rez and Gitaroo Man. Those are all quite fun to play if you're into that type (although Rez is certainly a genre unto itself). God of War seems pretty fun as far as action games go. It got great reviews and the demo is fun (haven't played the full version yet). Of course, the Metal Gear Solid series is quite sweet (and MGS2 can be had used for $5 at the Gamestop by me, at least). That's all I can think of right now (it's too hot to think over here).
  20. Going back to the original topic... I'm not a big football (soccer, for me) at all. In fact, it could be said I don't like it at all. However, no game has ever gotten me to play soccer like Sensible Soccer did way back when. Seriously.
  21. Intro Sequences in Games

"FRIENDS?!?! We've only gone out together three times and already you just want to be FRIENDS?!?!" Sorry, that's just the best way to start a game ever. Not to mention Sam referencing the "obligitory, overly long credit sequence." (or something like that, been too long) I love the way Sly Cooper opens (Sly's right there at the title screen and starting a new game gives you control of him right there, if memory serves), but that's more of a guided interactive introduction. Final Fantasies have always had mediocre opens, I thought. Especially Tactics for the PSX. Ugh. Come on, though, how can you forget the disturbing randomness of Katamari Damacy? Hello? Singing swans? I was trying to think of opens that I would invite people over just to watch, well, that's got to be one.
  22. Why the Hate on Metal Gear?

Ok, so I'm pretty new around these parts. I've read most of the content on the site and browsed through a lot of the forums. There's just seemingly underlying theme that keeps popping up that I don't get... A real displeasure for the Metal Gear series. Let me back up a bit, here. I've played games for a long time. I love quirky, fun, adventure games and declare Grim Fandango and Sam and Max: Hit the Road among my favorite games ever. I'm thoroughly enjoying Psychonauts. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time was really really good. Also, I recognize the fact that wonderfully original games are hard to find and many are underfunded, undermarketed or just plan unmade because developers refuse to take a chance. Honestly, fellow thumbers, I think we have a lot in common But I just don't understand the hate on the Metal Gear series. I realize it's a major-market series game (although not nearly to the extent of GTA, Halo, Madden etc.), but it shares many of the qualities that it seems to me the type of folks who congregate here are looking for in a game (e.g. Strong character development, storyline and unbelieveable gameplay). Other than it being violent (and there seems to be a slight lean toward non-violent games on this board), what's up with the hate? P.S. If I'm way off base and everyone loves it, let me know.
  23. Why the Hate on Metal Gear?

Yeah, I was going to post the link to the Tim Rogers article, but there are some many Tim haters that I didn't want to offend anyone It's really a neat way of thinking about the moments in that game. There's also this analysis of the ending to MGS2 that's really deep. Not really for the faint of heart, since it gets pretty scientific, but interesting all the same. This is something else that Tim's article mentions. People were on about MGS2 not being out there, when MGS wasn't exactly super straightforward: psychics, a cyborg ninja who comes back from the dead, foxdie, Vulcan Raven...
  24. Why the Hate on Metal Gear?

I LOVE Wes Anderson as well. However, I just rewatched The Aquatic Life yesterday after I bought it on DVD and I have to dispute your point just a bit. You didn't think was a "shocking" twist? As for military themed games/movies, MGS is the only one I can stand. This might have to do with the fact that it has a lot more personal themes then something like Medal of Honor. Ah, now we're getting somewhere. I also am not a fan of the weapons you acquire later in each of the games. I think Kojima is aware of this and adds the challenges he does to the bosses (such as beating the game without killing anyone or beating bosses without lethal weapons nets you neat items), but I think he could pump that part up a bit more to really balance the game better. The tranqs, on the other hand, really do it for me. The whole body-hiding concept of the second game really forced me to think about strategy.
  25. Why the Hate on Metal Gear?

While I'll agree that MGS2's second half/ending (or, more specifically, last 3 or so hours) can be quite unnerving to the point of madness, it's not even half as nonsensical as the past couple of hours I've played FFX. Then again, since I'm at a boss that apparently I'm too weak to beat right near the end, maybe it resolves perfectly. I think the comparison of storylines might have something to do with the fact that the MGS series is not an out and out "fantasy" setting like many adventure games. This does not necessarily mean knights and elves type of things, but stuff like Sam and Max, Grim Fandango, Space Quest etc.
