  1. Oblivion

Oblivion is really unorignal when it comes to locations. Its all beautiful and amazing but its all typical art. I'm tempted to say its like a virtual version of the towns in Lord of the Rings, but I'm sure someone will say "Towns like these were around long before LotR". I agree , but still the towns are very typical. The imperial city looks a bit like Isengard (tower and the gates), Bruma looks a bit like Rohan and Chorrol looks like Bree (or whatever the first town they went to was called). I will admit I haven't been to all the towns so maybe I'm just generalizing. But still, World of Warcraft was much more original with their design even with a lower poly count. Yes people are ugly in Oblivion, it looks like each face has somehow been crumpled up and and thrown in the trash.
  2. Oblivion

Jade empire has style, a better story, and is generally more fun. Oblivion has great graphics and a big world but doesn't offer much from an RPG standpoint. I think J.E is better than Oblivion because its more entertaining, and generally feels less shallow (its short and a bit quick but its got more depth than Oblivion imo). Oblivion is a great game, but the story is a bit dull and the locations aren't as original as J.E. Its depends on what you look for in a game. J.E. is like a short novel that keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way, the author has style and overall its a good book. Oblivion is a huge book but is somewhat dull and while it is pretty its empty. The conversations are short and to the point, and the locations are standard issue. Had they been combined they would be great. J.E has the story the detail and the style but Oblivion has the scale and looks. Oblivion is like a big golden plate with very little food on it, and Jade Empire is a small quiche with alot of taste but is quickly eaten. I dunno if that made sense ,but I say pick Jade. Edit: Oblivion is a good game , but thats all it is a game. Jade Empire offers much more than that.
  3. Oblivion

About leveling up I agree with the fact that the way Oblivion made the game sort of defeats the purpose of leveling up. I feel its more rpg-like to start off weak and become stronger, not so weak that you're a rat's bitch cause youre "unique" but not strong enough to be arena champion by level 4 (which is the case in Oblivion). I think Jade Empire did this perfectly, you start off weak but still strong enough to make it past the first few levels. Its slow at first then you speed up , eventually you're kicking ass and making it look good. By the end of the game you're more powerful than everyone else but theres still a challenge in fighting the bosses so its not a walk in the park.
  4. Oblivion

The best place to rob in the Imperial city for me was a shop called "Mystic" something. They sell scrolls and gems. Only cause I get to recharge my weapon for free now (Stole a bunch of soul gems) I think the reason the loot sucks is cause the loot is scaled to your character's level.
  5. Great Gaming Quotes

Manuel Calavera: Glottis. Are you loco? What got into you? That was a company car. Glottis: Oh yeah. And it's even better company now. Hop in.
  6. Rockstar Table Tennis: Website, trailer

Pretty soon people will start killing people with the paddles and blame it on this game.
  7. The big names in gaming

Who are the people that have shaped and will shape the future of gaming? Our spielbergs/our tolkiens/etc. So far I've got : Richard Garriott Tim Schafer Ron Gilbert Hironobu Sakaguchi (Final fantasy) John Romero Hideo Kojima Peter Molyneux Sid Meier Will Wright Warren Spector Chris Remo The Bioware guys (Ray M and Greg Z) Feargus Urquhart Michel Ancel (Beyond Good and Evil) American McGee John Carmack People im tempted to add : The guy who designed Indiana Jones and the fate of atlantis Gary Gygax The God of War designer Bill Roper On a side note I'd like to see an Idle Thumbs article about these people.
  8. Korean Air Force hiring gamers?

Starcraft is their national sport, along with dog chasing and dog eating contests. They also talk japanese, fight upside down and are all ninjas by night. As a side note they all have spiky hair too...
  9. Sid Meier

Civ 4 is great. Arabs all the way baby.
  10. Sid Meier

    Locomotion wasn't too bad
  11. The big names in gaming

Heres the updated list. My criteria were : 1. Past accomplishments 2. Has some importance. (Ie "Carmack says ...") 3. Has a future Tim Schafer Hironobu Sakaguchi (Final fantasy) Hideo Kojima Peter Molyneux Sid Meier Will Wright Warren Spector The Bioware guys (Ray M and Greg Z) Feargus Urquhart American McGee John Carmack Fumito Ueda Shigeru Miyamoto Tetsuya Mizuguchi Gabe Newell
  12. Sid Meier

Hes not doing anything terribly original but as long as the games are fun Im good. Civ 4 was excellent and Pirates was great.
  13. The Sims

    Money grubbing.
  14. Galactic Civilisations II

Its a good game, and its fun to play. Its not worth buying if you have Civ 4 which is pretty much the same game with a different setting. If you don't have Civ 4 then you should get it.
  15. The big names in gaming

Hmm , I had Feargus mainly because of Fallout,Planescape, and Bioware's role in shaping Rpgs. I've heard about Chris Avellone but not enough to add him, should I add him, forget him, or put him in Feargus' place?
  16. The big names in gaming

Ok Miyamoto is definately someone I must add. I guess I'll add Gabe as well. I will remove Romero but keep Carmack since he is still involved to some extent in gaming and is definately a major persona in the industry.

  21. PSP in Europe

I recently bought a PSP and once the novelty of "Wow its a big screen" wore off I realized how expensive the games were and that there aren't many good games. I have Metal gear acid and Fifa Soccer. Both are ok so I guess its a bit soon to say it was money poorly spent. Im just hoping theres more out there. As for the movie thing , seems stupid if you ask me, its almost cheaper here to get the dvd than the psp movie. I almost cannot predict any situation where watching a movie on the go is a life or death situation. Im glad im a pc gamer, granted there are times I wished I had an Xbox but I rarely use my PS2. PC is and will always be the #1 gaming solution.
  22. Big Easy

It reminds me of Fallout , I guess Iraq isn't the only place that needs help. Facts are , even though it may not be racist there definately is some truth to the fact that if it was an all white community this thing might have been resolved sooner.
  23. Tim Schafer loves me

Well , after much debate I have finally proven Tim Schafer loves me. May I present specimen A: A signed copy of psychonauts with the words "I love Ali Karimi" (yes thats my name) on them ; along with his signature. He also sent me a t-shirt , a hoody and a dvd ! For some reason im missing a bit of money but who cares ?! Tim loves me ! Does he love you too ? Share your signed objects, if you have them, ha.
  24. A thousand words.

A picture is worth a thousand words but are you trying to scare us ?
  25. Alternative games?

Freelance would be better. I prefer indie though. Sounds nicer.
