That makes a lot of sense, thanks.

* million. There are comparatively few amplifiers for our empathy, compared to multipliers for human agency. That always worries me. (Soz Twig. You can call me a honky if it makes you feel good).

Because we never slouch on the sofa to play PC games.

I'm pretty puzzled by this. They're basically offering an ad-free subscription, why use Kickstarter instead of do that?

In an abstract world of platonic ideals, I agree: No words should be off limits. In the context of our histories and societies though, it's not something I could ever advocate. As with the example I gave in the feminism thread of saying cunt in front of a former prostitute, the correct response would not have been for me to tell her to grow thicker skin. If you actually think it would have been, I suggest you go sell your mouth and asshole to some mean spirited men for a few years, then see how you feel about it. In a world with trauma and prejudice, certain words are always going to require the right context to be inoffensive. Dealing with this kind of stuff as if it's absolute, and other people can just suck it regardless of context, is insensitive and makes you a prick. That is often the problem, not sensitivity in others. Here's an idea: The sensitivity people are entitled to has an inverse proportion to the privilege they have. In the words of Louis C.K., "I'm a white guy. You can't even hurt my feelings". Becoming conscious of how privileged I am by default has made me a lot tougher and less worried about things*. Nearly 100% of the time, I am absolutely not entitled to feel like a victim of anything, particularly with interpersonal stuff. Other people's lives are not the same. If I were to genuinely think that, without regard to context, I should be able to use insults based in racism, homophobia, sexual violence or gender, that would make me scum, not a hero. * Conversely, when I look at MRA type stuff, I see a lot of bleating, weak little shits with nothing to actually complain about. "Enemies" is a very dramatic term. It's a disagreement on a forum and none of us should sweat it too much. Quit being so sensitive

I don't get the scepticism. Maybe it's because I spend about half my time dealing with indie developers who are pissed off with platform holders (not even PSN is regarded as a great platform to get onto anymore). Also, a lot of students I've known have retro or previous generation consoles rather than current ones, too: There is a market for less expensive, non-bleeding edge living room systems. Something that costs $100 dollars, is built with the internet in mind, and is already a devkit? I know a shit ton of people who would want this. Sure, it won't run Battlefield 3, but with living room hardware there and a quad core processor, how will it be restricted to mobile titles? When some of the most recent android phones and tablets have 720p screens, how will it inevitably look shitty? With 2.25 million dollars and 28 days to go, they could probably fucking pay a few indie developers to make launch titles for it. Historically, I'm not an Android cheerleader at all, but if they pull this off it could be a really healthy thing for the games industry.

Phones being powerful enough to run things for your TV/monitor is the way I think things will go. Second screens and nicer keyboards are already the way a lot of people work with a laptop at home or the office; with nice peripherals I could totally see a phone one day replacing a laptop or games console in similar setups.

This went well, and had a much more chilled out crowd than the Eurogamer Expo. It was very nice to meet Empika, Aydnod, and as always, Spaff

It always seemed to me that the expression had more of a prison rape context than a homosexual one. There is way more to gay men's love lives than anal sex, but heterosexual people tend to fixate on it as "Oh right. That's the way they do sex". Nonetheless, as an expression it connects horrifically to bullshit ideas that anti-gay people have of "there's no love in what they do" etc., so to Wubbles.

I love having this at Rezzed. It's making a lot of people laugh, and every time I look over it's doing something new.

Yeah, again, apologies. As I said, it's not like I never do it myself, but like you I try to be responsible and a good person with it. My experience has definitely been skewed by working in a nightclub for a few years, where I got to see some really scummy things and people. I've known a few PUA types, and when I typed the bit you quoted I was thinking of a specific Yorkshireman who worked there. Choice quotes: "That bird seemed well up for it, and I went home with her, but she were dead mardy the morning after. No idea why" and "Fat birds are the best. They're desperate, you can do owt to 'em". Charming man ¬¬

Orv, if we ever met, and I have my laptop with me: maybe. I'm afraid there is NO FUCKING WAY I can send code out, because that would basically end my career, and deservedly so People coming to Rezzed: I look like this: http://images.euroga...hayward.jpg.jpg But wearing a purple Rezzed t-shirt. I'll either be milling around fixing games if they fall over or, just like now, loafing on the internet inside one of the Leftifeld area stands.

That version of the Pyro's dream world looks an awful lot like Proteus.

Sorry, I didn't mean to come over as moralising earlier. Different things work for different people, and clearly, sexuality is so complex that there's no universal pattern that suits everyone.

This is the weird and interesting thing about crowdfunding that not many people have talked about yet: It distributes risk, and could largely take it away altogether from creators and put it on buyers. When the developers of that game that seemed really cool come back and say "[We fucked up the budget]*, so we need to run another kickstarter!". At what point to they go from plucky underdog that deserves your help to incompetent fuckwit? * It'll be dressed up as "We lost our artist and had to find another one" or "X was more expensive than we thought", or something, but that's what it'll mean. I've backed a few things on kickstarter, but usually with low amounts that I wouldn't mind losing. Some kickstarter pages have red flags all over them: A month or so ago, I saw a Kickstarter for an iOS game. It said the team had already put a year into it, but needed some crowdfunding to push it to the end. They were asking for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

It'd be fine with some snow chains on it ¬¬ Not. I had a CBT (British mandatory test to ride nothing bigger than a 125, with L plates), but it was so long ago now that I'd need to take it again before I could take lessons. I've ridden pillion at 150mph, which was… interesting. The vibration was so much and things whipping by so fast that the world kind of started to look like this. Every time I see new stuff in this thread I feel intensely jealous, and really want a motorbike.

Exactly my experience too. Crap sex for everyone, or one person/both start to want deeper involvement. By no means saying this is an absolute trait or that I don't sometimes sleep with people casually myself, but the men I've known who really seem to get on with casual sex have tended to be shit people who see fucking women as conquering them, and don't care how good the sex is or how happy the other person is: just bragging rights.

I'd never heard this Björk cover of You Only Live Twice. It's pretty ace: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIU54KmQORU -
