I was wrong about loads of stuff, and that was a better ending than I expected.

Alone is an excellent idea. I'd want to run a live version to be played in an actual dark room as well Over the past month I've been playing a bit of Volo Airsport, and while it's obviously still a prototype, it's excellent. It models thermals, so if you get good enough to fly close to ridges and mountainsides, you can keep ascending and flying for quite a long time. Even with the fairly basic heightmap and (I think) no object collision, that's pretty breathtaking.

Best answer I've seen to the tone argument: "No you be nice, I'll be truthful".

I'd been skipping over most of this thread, but just wanted to say in response to this: I've felt hemmed in in the same way, and am gradually working through it. That's involved a combination of befriending other feminists and evaluating my own views. The games industry seems to be in a super-awkward phase at the moment where a bunch of people who give a shit are only just learning to talk about this stuff. In turn, it's often not obvious which of them are using kindness as sexual currency, and even those who aren't have quite a primitive sense of when or how to talk about it. I was speaking to a friend the other day who said she has to take long breaks from twitter because she feels trapped by constant discussion of these issues, and doesn't want them to be the sole thing that defines her time spent engaging with the rest of the industry. Another, who is queer, is outraged that certain game developers are de facto representatives for her class of people when she doesn't feel represented by them at all. Things seem to be a little better than they were; at least people are trying to be aware. Everything about that is just a little crudely formed for now though: People are still blundering around a bit and looking for short cuts to make it all more understandable.

I thought that was a suitable denouement to the episode before, and I'm glad Chris' prediction of Seriously don't click this spoiler if you don't want to indulge in fan theories pointing to further character deaths:

Wow, that is seriously fucking atrocious I wish people like that lady would be made to do service jobs for a year or two. Working in a bar for four years really did a lot for me in terms of learning how to interact with people.

He wasn't particularly clear about it either, and the focus of his anger kept on changing every time I tried to reason with him. Anyway, I secretly love this kind of wanker in small doses, because staying calm winds them up so much. It was difficult to not laugh when he tried out the intimidating scowl.

This is why I'm not naming him or the company publicly. The rest of them probably don't deserve to suffer for his behaviour. Also, escalating it would probably just result in dragging my client into an unpleasant shitfight. They aren't talking about it in public, which is kind of a relief even though it would just make them look worse. But, update! It turns out the first thing he did on leaving was find the email address of the highest person he could at [client] and get a colleague to send them an official complaint. I don't want to say too much, but that has not gone how he hoped it would and I am basically happy.

This is a (long) anonymised account of a thing that happened to me at the place I'm running yesterday. This guy was a total douchebag to me and my staff. I don't care if he was walking in the door with a blank cheque, nor how many people his company reaches; this kind of attitude can fuck right off. http://pastebin.com/i31AMevN He tried to intimidate me with a scowl at one point. Out of politeness, I managed to not laugh at him, and just asked him to leave instead.

As part of it, I persuaded VM they should fund an arcade jam. Me, Sos Sosowski, Jonatan Van Hove (Glitchnap), Jon Brodsky (Lucky Frame), Simon Bachelier (One Life Remains), George Buckenham, Marie Foulston and Ricky Haggett (all Wild Rumpus) built a load of stuff this weekend, but the best thing is DOOM PIANO: https://vine.co/v/hn2MZUdQvdY https://vine.co/v/hn0mJ7pBMUb Every one of the hammers is covered in copper tape and wired to act as a keyboard input too.

Unfortunately, it's temporary, but it's running really nicely. The big table downstairs is for developers to come and work at, and that mixed with exhibition space creates a really good atmosphere. We only run until the 21st, but it's started quite a few people off in London talking about how to make a permanent one. The production values on VMGS put it out of reach for more long term things without some *really* major backing, but I think as a rougher space, such a thing might run well on a hackspace type model.

With the project I'm currently on, eleven hours work plus commutes is an easy day. On show changeover days or major event days, I pretty much wake up at 06:30, cycle in for 20 minutes, work until around 22:00, go home, then sleep and repeat. Main factors in workaholism: On top of weekly exhibition production and daily event production, agencies partnering on it have been burying me in extra things to chase up, and I've had to develop somewhat extreme defences to stop them from continually piling more on. I need to charge more and bring in staff to do this again I think.

One day, in adulthood, her partner will find those pictures and think "Oh. Right. That explains everything".

Some pictures of the thing I've been working on for the past few months. Based on the early CGI, I didn't expect it to be as good as it actually turned out. We're open now in London (Leonard Street in Shoreditch), 10:00 - 19:00 Tues - Sat, and amongst a bunch of other stuff on show currently have Hohokum, Beyond: Two Souls, Super Pole Riders, BaraBariBall, Tearaway, and Helix.

Yep. Actually happened. Then a load of people elected him a few years later. Sententia, that is amazing.

Has anyone else here heard of this? Basically it was a JRPG that has been hacked and translated into English by fans You can get details and the English patch here: http://mother3.fobby.net/ I've played through the first chapter and it's pretty good so far. I'm looking forward to the rest of it, since this is what Anna Anthropy had to say about it: (Her blog is, BTW, an absolute gold mine for obscure indie games and interesting prototypes that exist completely away from the commercial games industry. She also seems to have coined the terms masocore and demake).

…that's making fake geek girls mad as hell.

I thought when I moved to London for this job I'd have time for a social life and some dating. Ha. ha. ha.

I loved Dual Strike, though I'm not sure if I ever got past Crystal Calamity.
