Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)
Nachimir replied to Irishjohn's topic in Multiplayer Networking
That's weird. Do you think it showed me on $0 in your leaderboard because I was still playing? -
I don't think he's ever posted the original, but snapped from a friend's TV, gandhi_dating_sim.jpg (source)

Yes, I avoided the doc and was like that for me too.

Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Was doing okay, but only had two bombs by the time I got to the temple. I actually spoke in this one, but OBS mysteriously didn't record from my mic. Highlights: 11:30: Weird bomb sound glitch, but it did only lay one. 29:35: Shopkeeper gets rid of my shotgun and almost kills me. 31:31: I wonder if I can fall past that crush trap… 32:00: Weird shotgun glitch. I die trying to get it back. (I have done a few other dailies recently, but didn't upload because they were short, crap, and the deaths weren't even funny). -
Terrible behaviour, and you've all got to be brutal about it. Setting a timer, and the rest of you voicing your collective discomfort is probably the best chance of shifting it.

Thanks. I think The Urban Aeronautics Airmule is a drone designed for evacuating battlefield casualties, but frankly, could carry 400 kilos of just about anything:

That sounds incredible, but a quick google showed nothing. Do you know if it's online anywhere?

Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube
Nachimir replied to pabosher's topic in Idle Banter
Yes, or something like that, but I'd never seen it until a week or so back. Rodi's video made me assume it was a similar deal at first. -
Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube

That gets even better as it goes on I saw briefly a few months ago, and assumed it was a similar thing just now, but digging it up with Google found out it's actually real. -
So fucking good, and that mention in the podcast makes it that little bit better

Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube
Nachimir replied to pabosher's topic in Idle Banter
I assumed it was something for the crew to aim at, but it's hard to tell how visible it'd be from the other side. There's not much smoke coming off it. Either that, or the whole thing isn't a scrapyard at all and it's just a very elaborate way to put out a fire. -
Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube

Not comical, but kind of absurd. The build up makes it better: -
Thanks subbes for organising all of this, opening the donations window a bit longer, and putting all of the art in the first post. I love the Rich Uncle / Cool Uncle diptych and will probably make it into wallpaper

I think it's difficult to dissect this kind of thing when it comes to people's motives, especially when involves depression and/or substance problems. None of them are valid excuses, but they do make it almost impossible to accurately measure how sincere his apology was or wasn't. For all we know he could have had anything in his head at the time he sent the messages, ranging from "I get away with this every time!" to completely misunderstanding whatever rapport and connection he had with the developer. Can't find it again, but that skeezy youtube pick up series he was in doesn't do him any favours. I saw (but didn't post in) a very long facebook thread in which the editor of one site argued naming and shaming people is just damaging to them and not helpful. I strongly disagree though: Giving anyone a pass will just reinforce the horrifically toxic environment that infects big bits of the games industry. He weakly argued "motive is everything", in which case a bunch of things that are crimes wouldn't be.

For one job last year, I had to work with an agency who email each other MS Office file attachments. No source control, just phone calls and confusion.

Yeah, they sound like utter pricks, and I've found the same as Thrik. (I use USB keys all the time for work).

Yeah, I've started going straight into the daily (mainly on vita) rather than warming up at all. I had too many warm ups where I got really far, then didn't do nearly so well in the daily. -
The original ad said "You wouldn't steal a car".

That's their first prototype, which building in itself, even that messily, is no small thing. The aim is to have something as unobtrusive as the wii sensor bar, but computer vision isn't a simple problem yet.

The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)
Nachimir replied to Wrestlevania's topic in Idle Banter
I should've guessed it would be that, and yes, I thought the same about Use of Weapons when I first saw it. -
Ah, writing is a tough one. If you're juggling it with a job, easy to half-kill yourself staying up until stupid o'clock since tweaking words is incredibly addictive. I have no idea how any commercial writers get anything up to the standard they want in the time they have. A gradual transition sound sensible though; it's hard getting work and a reputation a a writer. If it helps, I often ask the same questions in an existential sense: Am I going to be happy running games events forever? Probably not. Entertaining people is fine, but I'd like to tackle something more important one day.
