  1. Recently completed video games

That was where I stopped playing the game. I got killed waaaaay too many times at that fucker. Up to that point, I'd actually quite liked it.
  2. Fallout: New Vegas

I have all 3 but was waiting to get further in the main game before I went into them. Can anyone recommend a good (semi-natural feeling) time to play the DLCs if you're integrating them into your first playthrough of the game? I'm about level 16, if that helps.
  3. Movie/TV recommendations

Man, I was actually going to say Anchorman. My brain knows that it's amazingly stupid, but for whatever reason it remains one of my favourite movies ever. I can't see it without cracking the biggest grin. Look into it.
  4. Fallout: New Vegas

    I accidentally found
  5. Bastion

...And almost exactly a day later, I finished New Game Plus, have every achievement (including the secret one for the Portal turret!) and got a first place rank in every weapon training ground. I also hit the level cap and maxed out every possible item, and have seen both endings. Neither one is good or bad. I have a personal preference for but both just happen, no judgements. Either way, the game tells you you've done the right thing and helped greatly, it's a matter of which way your personal philosophies lead you. I kinda like that. At the same time, I have a friend on my Steam list who says that it's her "favourite computer RPG since Planescape" and I don't think it's worthy of that much praise. It was really good, yeah, but for a few afternoons, not to be reflected upon and held up as an all time classic. For the price though, you're getting an excellent game, and one that I put at least 13 hours into (Steam says 16, but many of those hours were during downtime at work and so involved long periods of having the game paused and not actually playing it.), so definitely pick it up if you'e interested.
  6. I'm calling bullshit on that. Especially something that mundane, a director or designer added it on purpose, and in order to establish something (character, mood, whatever). Arena sections, yeah, they're totally just padding out shit. One short one can be forgiveable, but if you have more than one arena section in a game you're deep in lazy design town. If you show me the protagonist brushing his or her teeth for any (more than a brief montage) period of time however, I'm assuming that it means something, and I'm usually right. The movie Pi, for example, when you watch the main character get ready in the same way each morning, it's building you up for the climax of the film. I haven't played Heavy Rain, but as I understand its opening, you're brushing your teeth and shaking orange juice and what have you in order to firmly put you in that world. Quite the contrary of filler, when I heard about that stuff it made me much more interested in the game than I would have been otherwise.
  7. Idle Forums Game Club - Killer 7 edition

I'm working on it. Still behind, but finished Sunset now. Time has been at a huge premium lately, but I'm trying to find opportunities to play.
  8. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

Nappi, where the hell did you find that?
  9. Bastion

It's a side-quest. There are three of them in total, with 20 waves each. The first tells the back story for the kid, the second for Zia, and the third for Zulf. All of these are optional if you don't want to do them though. I just finished it about 45 minutes ago myself. Got the same ending as Erkki, and am now 2 levels in to the new game plus which I intend to finish with the opposite ending. I really liked this game a lot. I think the latest patch actually fixed the isometric walking thing. It seems better than it did when I started playing the game, anyway. Man, that game was rad as hell. 'Blix, keep at it. When you find the right weapons to suit your play style (mine was machete for quick slashes up close and army rifle for long distance accuracy and damage) things fall into place very naturally. Totally worth the $15. And, unlike From Dust (reputedly), a game that was actually worth waiting for the PC version of.

Just finished me some Bastion. Will be finishing it again fairly soon I believe. Good I think the latest patch even improved the PC directional controls, so well done on the PC version, Supergiant!
  11. General Video Game Deals Thread

I checked after posting that. It's actually $12.50 Canadian, and our money is worth more than yours. Jerks.
  12. General Video Game Deals Thread

Is it 400MSP on PC as well?
  13. True, Sam and Max 3 is probably the best thing they've done. Play it. And oh my god why did you guys have to remind me of the ending of Uncharted 2. That was so fucking bad, after such a great game up to that point. What the hell, Naughty Dog? What the hell?
  14. I've finished every episode that I've ever started. The only "season" pre BTTF that I haven't finished is Strongbad. On the other hand, I also finish pretty much every game I start, and it takes something drastic (hard drive failure causing loss of the save, for example) to stop me, so I may not be the best example.
  15. Nintendo 3DS

Haven't tried Layton. Yoshi's Island 2 looks as good as ever though, and that's all beautiful spritework. The only thing that would concern me is playing something like Henry Hatsworth where you need to have super precise dpad work and swap quickly to the stylus. I'm not sure that would work so well with the 3DS' set up.
  16. Nintendo 3DS

As I've said, I've been playing a bunch of old DS games on my 3DS and haven't found the upscaling to be a problem at all. I think it's probably because the screens are small enough that you can't notice unless you're looking really hard for it already.
  17. GDC Europe - is anybody in?

Oh man, Gamescom was so awesome that it transformed you into 48 hours! Sorry. Typos make me laugh. It does sound like a rad time. How was Rayman?
  18. BioShock Infinite

Honestly, from the beginning I've hated the way that humans look in Infinite. The environments are beautiful, sure, but every time someone talks about how great the game looks my brain screams "BUT THE FACES, MAN! THE FACES!" It looks to me like someone trying to take the Pixar method of "simplified humans look more cartoony and fun and have no problem with the uncanny valley" (which is great) and then fucking it up horribly by making them look like some kind of animatronic wax dummy of that. I'll still play it eventually, but I can't imagine not being grossed out every time I'm supposed to be having an emotional reaction to a character.
  19. Kojima tweeted a thing that had a "Zone of the Enders 3DS" logo in it. I want this to be real so bad. Especially with the ZOE collection coming out on PS3, they may be thinking it's time to bring it back. Any other huge fans of the series that MGS has been overshadowing for far too long?
  20. Bastion

I went back to it after posting that and it was fine for some reason. I don't get what the fuck up was there, but it seems to have resolved itself. Now I can say without reservation: play this game!
  21. Unity3D

I demand an "inspired by" credit! At least a special thanks...
  22. Life

A couple of weeks after the actual anniversary, my girlfriend and I went out today to get the presents that we'd joked about for each other. That is, matching t shirts that say "STOP MAD GEAR: RE-ELECT MIKE HAGGAR" on them, as the early days of our relationship were spent playing Final Fight on the Wii's Virtual Console while lying in bed. It was a good day.
  23. Bastion

This is out on PC today and I've started playing it. Unfortunately, it would seem that until it gets patched it'll be a bit difficult to figure out what specific weapons and items do as all the descriptions say "Item x has no description" followed by a paragraph in Latin that I haven't bothered to translate. Also, all the pop-up tooltips say HINT_*situation I'm in*. And all the location names are MAP01_intro or something similar. What I'm saying is, their shit seems to be tagged incorrectly. Wait for a patch unless you want to figure shit out entirely on your own. Oh, one last thing is that all the button prompts, I'm assuming due to this error and not laziness, are for a 360 controller. Sigh. As for the game itself, It's pretty damned good from the hour or so that I've put in. I would maybe recommend a gamepad rather than a mouse/keyboard combo though. Not because the controls don't work, but trying to run straight along a diagonal in an isometric world isn't as easy as it should be when you're using wasd instead of a stick. Not unplayable by any means, just a bit awkward. On the other hand, I think I'd prefer aiming with a mouse to the right stick or whatever it would be mapped to, so take that as you will. Anyway, it's buggy in a way that screws up all the text but plays just fine, so take that into consideration if you were thinking of a day one perch. Give it a few days and I'm sure they'll have fixed this up and the game will be fantastic.

God, trying to get out of that complex where the guys with the night vision goggles show up and the laser grids all turn on stands out as a particularly horrible section. That bit where 6 or so of them burst into the room at once right after you've finished a cutscene and are completely vulnerable being the worst part of it. There were actually a few times when the game would have a big cutscene followed by dudes rushing wherever you are looking for you and giving you nowhere near enough time to hide (remember the airfield? [seriously, I remember a section like that at the airfield]), but that one was the worst.
