  1. Ah. That would be Dead Island or Deus Ex or something? Yeah, I'd say it's pretty worth checking down the full list of notifications before actually making any purchases on this site. Also, it's worth mentioning that I actually read the whole terms of service before doing anything with this site, which is something that, honestly, most of us probably take for granted when creating an account somewhere. Gotta make sure everything is on the up and up.
  2. It's worth noting that not everything on the site is steam-compatible, so make sure that you're picking up the proper version if/when you do it. Are the Russian versions in question things that activate on Steam?
  3. Yeah, I too paypal-ed it, despite Paypal being a sack of shit lately. At least I wasn't giving anyone my credit card info. There was a worry that the code just wouldn't show up for a bit, but then I got the email and it worked in my Steam client, so all is well.
  4. Life

Go outside and fap! Fresh air will do you good.
  5. You know what? I was pretty sure this was sketchy, but then thought that I HAD been seeing you playing SR3 on Steam for a few days now so I checked it out. $22 for a game I've been salivating over since release but had been waiting for a price drop before buying? Yeah, ok. Well, it's in my Steam library now, so I guess this stuff works. Thanks for the tip, Tanu!
  6. V The Elder Scrolls

Dip. Well, in that case, does anyone have a recommended list of Morrowind mods that I should throw onto the Steam version to make it 2011-awesome?
  7. Batman: Arkham City

Ha. I know exactly which one you're doing.
  8. V The Elder Scrolls

Has anyone messed around with Morroblivion? It's a mod that requires one owns both Morrowind and Oblivion, but completely converts the Morrowind game to the Oblivion engine. I heard it mentioned on Giant Bomb somewhere, and was interested in checking it out, but on looking at their site it seems pretty complicated. If anyone has got it working and can offer some tips I would really like to check this out while I wait for Skyrim to go on sale.
  9. Nintendo 3DS

Yoshi's Island is, naturally, a remake of Yoshi's Island. Like, Super Mario World 2, where you are Yoshi with Baby Mario. Probably one of the best Super Nintendo games out there, and a gaping void in the Wii's VC service. Mario Kart Super Circuit is two things. First, it is a fantastic SNES-ish Mario Kart game with a few of the upgrades from later entries added in. As it is 2D, rather than having a Classics cup or whatever, the bonus tracks you unlock are the ENTIRE original SNES Mario Kart, so you're basically getting that for free as well. Wario Land 4 is a fantastic continuation of the Wario Land series. Though the best is probably still the original (Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land, which then spun off three more sequels without the "SML" bit in front) but they are all actually really good and worth playing. It's a fun, objective based platformer. That is, "find this thing within a level and get to the exit" rather than "run right". Really good, and a great launch-window GBA game. Kirby and the Amazing Mirror is NOT a remake, it is an original game in which Kirby is split into 4 Kirbies and navigates a bunch of traditional Kirby worlds. It's a good Kirby game, but one of the less original/experimental games in the franchise. The 4 Kirbies thing was a way of introducing 4 player co-op, which I'm not sure would work on the GBA, but whatever. I played it single player when it came out, and it's good but not great. If there is one of the list that you can pass on, this is probably it. Especially given how damn good Minish Cap and Metroid Fusion (yeah, I went there) are. EDIT: Also, Kirby's Adventure already has a 3D Classics remake. I played through it as soon as it came out, and it's a good port with some nice subtle 3D effects added in. If you want to try it, just go for that. It's still a great game.
  10. Nintendo 3DS

So all those free GBA games are coming this Friday. Like, two days from now. And they revealed the full list of them too. The ten games are: Previously known Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island Mario Kart Super Circuit Metroid Fusion WarioWare Inc Mega Microgames Mario vs Donkey Kong AND Newly announced Wario Land 4 Kirby and the Amazing Mirror Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap F-Zero: Maximum Velocity So... holy shit. There is only one game in that list (that I've played, which means everything except F-Zero and Mario vs Donkey Kong) that wouldn't be on my list of absolutely essential GBA games. That game would be Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, which is still actually really good but not an essential GBA title. There are a few others, of course, like Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, that would have been great, but I'm incredibly happy with what Nintendo has put on offer here. I have always felt like missing out on F-Zero was one of the holes in my Nintendo fanboy history. I've made up for that a bit with the SNES and N64 games on the Wii's VC, and now I get to play a GBA one as well. Mario vs Donkey Kong is a series that I have loved in its DS incarnations but have never played the original GBA version of, so that's one I'm excited for too. Basically, the two games on this list that I haven't played are ones that I really want to, and the 8 that I have are ones that I can't wait to play again. Especially Super Circuit and Fire Emblem, two of the best GBA experiences you can have. Seriously, if you have never played a Fire Emblem game, you NEED to spend time with that one. It's a freaking incredible series, and Sacred Stones may be the best one. This ambassador program seems to be really wanting my 3DS to become the Zelda system. Between OoT3D, Zelda 1 and 2 NES ports, Link's Awakening, that free Four Swords download, and now Minish Cap, I have more Zelda than I know what to do with on this thing. And you know what? That's fine. Bring on the 3D Classics remake of Link to the Past while you're at it, the rumoured 3D remake of Majora's Mask, and VC releases of Oracle of Ages and Seasons. Every 2D Zelda in a thing I can keep in my pocket? Hell yes. I suppose I also have 2 of the possible 4 2D Metroids (NES and GB), but when I look at the games list it isn't quite as overwhelming as seeing all that "ZELDA: The Whatever Whatever" going on. Man, all 10 of these things coming out on the Friday before my birthday. It's like Nintendo knew and wanted to give me the best of gifts to keep me busy on the plane ride to visit my folks the week after. Anyone else? Thoughts on this stuff?
  11. Goty.cx 2011

Yeah, all of this Bastion love is certainly well deserved. It JUUUUST got edged out of my top 4. It does deserve at least some credit for being a game that I was compelled to finish twice in less than a week.
  12. Life

I'll be spending Christmas with my girlfriend's family as mine live in another province, then flying out to see my own parents on Boxing day. Should be fun enough. My mum tells me they just got a new kitten, so I get to spend a week away from home playing with a 2 month old kitty! Good times...
  13. General Video Game Deals Thread

Screw it, I bought the bundle. There are worse things I can do than give $5 to the red cross. I'm interested in checking out Cave Story anyway, so why not get in on it now.
  14. General Video Game Deals Thread

I did not play Knytt. Can you convince me with a description of what it actually is?
  15. General Video Game Deals Thread

Jamestown was one of my favorite games this year, Meat Boy is great, and Bit.Trip Runner is fantastic. Problem is, I already own them. I remember Shank being received kinda "meh", so how is Night Sky? WHAT is Night Sky? This bundle, more than most, requires convincing for me. Sell me on it, internet!
  16. Life

Happy upside down Christmas, 'blix! Give my best to Grippage!
  17. General Video Game Deals Thread

I heard it's very similar to the first, only slightly improved, and much shorter. That said, for $5 I did it. I enjoyed the first game more than it had any right to be enjoyed, so for a bit more of the same but kinda better, I'll drop a fiver.
  18. WadjetEye Games 50% off everything! This weekend only!

I picked up the Indie Royale bundle and am looking to check these out. What order are they in? This always bothers me when games have subtitles but no numbers. Classy, yes. Awkward for a newcomer, also yes.
  19. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

The last line of the song being sold me and made me laugh my ass off. I will now watch all of the Community that is on Netflix. I've been meaning to for a while, but that pushed me over the edge.
  20. The Last of Us

Will the sequel be called "The Second Last of Us"?
  21. Yeah, and the directional swinging makes a big difference. If that is a thing with mouse + keyboard, it's not a thing I've been able to get to work. Also, it's hard to describe the feel of swinging the items yourself (I picked the blunt weapons guy), but it really does make the game feel unique. When I used mouse + keyboard, I felt like I could be playing any number of video games. When I used my 360 pad with analog control, I know I'm playing Dead Island. That feeling alone makes me want to keep playing Dead Island.
  22. Plug your shit

Speaking of group work, that presentation yesterday went really well and I wanted to thank everyone on here who helped out with it. My professor was super impressed with what we did, and I've now solidified my straight As in a really rough and way too busy term. Working 5 days a week and going to school 5 days a week sucks. There are not 10 days in a week. I actually have had no idea what to do with myself the last two nights without homework, but that'll be resolved in a month. Thanks to everybody who tweeted, especially BBX, Nachimir, Thompson, and Hermie who contributed a bunch!
  23. It's not so much the gore or the impact of it (though that is a factor, sure), it's that it takes it from "run up to enemy and mash on melee attack" to "when surrounded by 3 walkers and a thug, break the thug's arms so that it can't damage you, then take down the walkers while he's ineffective and finish him off at the end once the things that can hurt you are dead." It's such an important extra level of strategy that everything gets stepped up to a completely different plane of quality. Very cool stuff.
  24. I don't use these words often, or lightly, but you are doing it wrong. Quite honestly, after spending a bit of time playing it both ways (although not too much, as I promised my step-dad I'd co-op through it with him online) I find the mouse and keyboard controls to be adequate and nothing more. The analog controls are goddamned fantastic, add a much needed layer of strategy to the game (targeting specific body parts, direction of swing, etc), and increase immersion by a ridiculous amount. While the game is fine without, I'm fairly confident I would lose interest in it rather quickly and not get beyond the first few hours. If I had to point out the one thing that this game is "about", it would be the analog combat. It takes about 15 minutes of adjustment to wrap your head around it, and then you're in. I'm playing on a 360 pad, so I can't speak to the hacked mouse + keyboard hack controls, but you're doing both yourself and the game a disservice if you don't at least check them out. It's what keeps me thinking about it and what I look forward to in booting it up. It's why I've been texting to Victoria to get my step-dad to catch up a bit so we can co-op and I can play more of it already. It is, more than anything else, what has made this game worth it.
  25. Plug your shit

Haha. The rest of my group is finally catching on to the twitter account. A couple of the girls I'm working with have been posting replies to you guys, and its nice to see traffic happening a little bit. I threw up another question just now to see what sorts of responses come in. Unless another group mate adds to it before tomorrow-lunchtime, it'll probably be the last one. Thanks again to everyone who showed interest in this! It's making me seriously consider blogging my student-teaching time next term. Pseudonyms will have to abound of course, especially as children are involved, but it may be something worth doing. EDIT: I also noticed that someone responded to a question that I asked with the twitter account USING the same account. If we're not careful, we may end up having an account that argues with itself. Gonna have to watch that.
