Holy crap, man. That's pretty out there. The NHS comment is just mind-blowing. Glad he's at least in a place he can take some time to recover now. I just finished putting in my application to the Board of Education, and they say that if I have an interview I'll hear from them before the 19th. I'm damn terrified, both of the possibility of failure and the enormous responsibility I'll be taking on if I succeed. This is being an adult, huh? Dang. I also met with my partner teacher for my third and final practicum (which starts in a little under two weeks) yesterday at lunch. He was a very friendly and nice, if a little aloof, guy. Very professional and very smart, I can tell he's going to have high expectations for me and I'll have to be on point the whole time, but that's probably for the best anyway. It's a grade 5/6 split room, which means that by Alberta standards they're on their second/third year of learning French as a second language. When I told the teacher that I spoke French he lit up a bit and offered me the chance to take it over right away when I get started. I don't think he likes teaching French much. Should be pretty fun for me though, as French was always one of my favourite subjects in school and teaching it is something I've been wanting to practice anyway. He seems kind of leery of me, but I'll be taking over his class for 8 weeks (the last three teaching 100% of every day), so I understand him being worried I may screw it all up for him. I probably wouldn't be the first if I did. I've been talking to my partner teacher from last term a bunch (stayed in contact because we got along great and I've been going back to volunteer with her class) and she's been venting her worries about the same to me. Hopefully I can earn his trust in the first week or so. Exciting, terrifying times for me. I have a giant binder of 5th grade curricula I need to plan for staring at me from my bed, but I also have to be up in 6 hours for class, so I should probably call it a night.

See, I was with you on MS before I got both. Now that I have both systems, I barely turn on my 360. Sony has stepped it up SO HARD this generation that pretty much the only thing MS has going for it is clarity. I feel like I'm done with them unless/until they can make a really compelling exclusive games argument. I'm sure they will eventually and I'll end up with the trinity again sooner or later, but man. PS3 vs 360, no contest. And that statement has the opposite meaning of what I would have thought in, say, 2007.

Looking up news stories, it looks like there's no mention of N64, only NES, SNES, and GBA games. Can anyone who watched the thing confirm this? It seems like kind of an odd omission. That's kind of the whole point of the app though, isn't it? That sentence sounds silly, which makes it pretty clear that it's not the norm for it to happen to guys. That it sounds normal for it to be about a woman and weird for it to be about a guy just underscores that the harassment and anxiety happens to women far more often than men. I just played this, as I finished the assignment that is due tomorrow a bit early and needed to give my brain a break before working on the one for Friday. Man, I was angry at it this time. I remembered loving the third colossus. Majestic, beautiful, melancholy. It's still all of those things, but in my memory, this game wasn't so damned hostile to its players. The amount of times that I would be lined up perfectly, get shaken around, and then miss stabbing a sigil due to a minor shift mid-animation was ridiculous. At one point, I was yelling at Wander "WHY ARE YOU HOLDING THERE? THAT'S NOT A PLACE YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO HOLD! HOW DID YOU GET THERE? YOU WEREN'T ANYWHERE NEAR THERE BEFORE THE THING'S LAST ANIMATION STARTED!" In fact, with the amount of yelling at my TV to no effect that I was doing, I almost felt like I was playing a Kinect game. I feel like this game hates me and wants me to be angry at it. I don't remember this from when I was 17. I'll be going back for Colossus 4, but mostly because of this thread. If I didn't have you guys to push me here, I'd be tempted to say "fuck this shit" and move on. This makes me very sad, because I know it's a classic, and I remembered it so fondly from 2005. Talk about your shattered illusions. Also, I have yet to find any fruit/lizards. What do other people have at this point? Am I just looking for the wrong things? (Gerbil, you don't need to answer due to the fact that I'm aware you're crazy and have them all.)

In general I agree with you, but I think you're kind of falling victim to the analogy that luftmensch is making here. That's nearly the same as the anti-sex-ed person saying "but learning about sex will make kids have way more sex!" The way that it's taught will make a big difference, and it could go either way.

Man, even with people on this forum who write for magazines ABOUT Nintendo (looking at you, Rodi), there's so little love for the 3DS on here. I know for a fact many of you have one, so who else has been playing Mario 3D Land? I just beat the main quest myself and have started ploughing through the New Game + sorta thing after you beat Bowser. It's actually more of a completely new game. Each level is themed roughly the same as its main game counterpart, but they'e by and large incredibly different to play through in the second mode. This game is really, really good. A bit too easy, but full of fantastic moments. Where are all the people looking to make their 3DSes actually useful? This is the game to do it with!

Go back to around page 50 or so and you'll see my disgust with God of War 3. It's a real shame, as some of the setpieces are the most incredible things I've ever played, but the narrative and some of the shit you have to do to progress disgusted me more than any other game I've ever played. And yeah, you're supposed to just keep on thinking that Kratos is a badass, not think he's awful for it.
