  1. Assassin's Creed: Mohawk

Get a PSVita? Aveline was a pretty rad main character.
  2. BAFTA 2013 Games Awards

Man, that's fantastic. Congrats, Jake and Sean. Fuck Jake and Sean.
  3. Life

Just finished my interview with the School Board. I heard from a bunch of friends from uni who were also in the running that interviews were ending with "so we have very few jobs to offer right now, but make sure to apply to..." but I didn't get that. I got "So, you want to work in Division 1? Great, your chances there are really good. Also, I see that you went to [high school X]. Were you in the gifted program? Y'know, very few working teachers actually have any idea what to do with gifted students. Given your insight, you should really apply to schools with that program as well. You'd do well." I'm taking this as a very good sign. This initial interview was to be employed by the Board of Education. If that happens, the next step is to get forwarded to specific principals for positions in their schools. This will likely be around July or August. Step one complete!
  4. Yeah, you're one behind El Muerte. The next one is totally fantastic. So far, 6 has been the only one I've found a little tedious, so I'm with you on that. That said, if you thought that 5 was boring, I have no idea what could save this game for you. 5 and 7 are both goddamned amazing in my eyes.
  5. It was back when Chris was replaying ME1, a few episodes before the standalone expansion PAX in the Breckon days, I think. He was saying that he wished the early part of the game on the Citadel was the whole game, and either Jake or Nick said "so you wish it was just Space Cop?" NB: I am behind on the podcast. If this is the same conversation that generated the more recent "Space Cop" reference (which I have not heard yet), then I apologize to Jake for confirming his "same forever" sadness.
  6. Movie/TV recommendations

Both theatres that I've managed over the years have had a "within the first half hour, you can get your money back" policy, with other exceptions at the manager's discretion. When a mom had to leave an hour into a movie to pick up her kid from where he wrecked his car, for example, I gave her a refund without her even asking. Saw her again the next week, so y'know, good reputation and all. People sure did like to ask though. Thing about working at a one screen art house, many movies are not in English. So many people would try to get a refund, after watching the whole movie, because there were subtitles. The hell, humanity?
  7. Brütal Legend on PC!

  8. PS Vita

I wonder how many PS+ subscribers have purchased a Vita largely because of the linking to their account? I know it's why I did it. I'm curious how much of an impact on the Vita that may have had...
  9. General Video Game Deals Thread

Heck yeah, El Shaddai. I've been wanting to check that out for ages.
  10. Euro Truck Simulator 2

"He's an alright guy, but he won't give ya nothin' unless yer packin' the proper hardware, if ya catch my meaning."
  11. PS Vita

I don't know if I reported on Liberation after I finished it or not, but I don't want to play it up too much. I like what it's doing, but if you're not in the mood for more AC already, it doesn't do anything super groundbreaking either. Holy shit framerate though. That is damn rough. Still, I liked it, and with all the other free stuff you're getting for being a PSN+ member, go for it.
  12. I've seen Koyczan live a couple of times coming through Calgary, and once when he did a show at the Salmon Arm Roots & Blues festival. Dude is always worth checking out. Thanks for reminding me, I haven't thought of him for a few years now.
  13. It's definitely more than I personally would want to deal with, but I can see fascinating scenarios arising from it. That's why I suggested it as a "hardcore mode" toggle rather than an always on thing. They could also always just do it as an expansion for the truly devoted (which fits pretty well with elmuerte's comparison, as I believe traffic lights actually WERE added in the expansion for Sim City 4).
  14. Movie/TV recommendations

All right boys, let's all take a breather, shall we? The definition of "protagonist" is actually kind of an interesting discussion, and something that I'd never considered before (having it be roughly interchangeable with "main character" in my head, as someone else mentioned on the last page), but this seems to be winding into something departing into personal territory. I'm not sure what it is about the other that pushes each of your buttons so hard, but it's starting to get frustrating to watch thread after thread fall to the "Thunderpeel vs Luftmensch" pattern. You both seem perfectly nice on your own and I have no problem with either of you, but I'm starting to think I wouldn't want to ever be in the same room with both of you simultaneously. To be fair, TP, it's not just Leftmensch's "antics" at play here, you are both equally guilty of egging each other on in different situations by now. One or (preferably) both of you needs to let this go before it escalates any further. It's getting to a point where if I see one of you posting immediately after the other my eyes just kind of glaze over and I write that thread off for a couple of weeks. That's a bummer of a response to have. It's a disagreement over terms on the internet. Both seem like fine interpretations, and I think that which a person subscribes to may actually say interesting things about them. Does this really need to become more of a thing than it already has?
  15. It makes sense, but it also really makes me want to craft a "city of no escape" as it describes. That seems like a problem that could manifest itself in many hilarious ways and would end up being fixable by the player having to come to terms with it in the same way an actual city planner would. Maybe have a "allow one-way roads" checkbox as sort of a hardcore mode?
  16. I have now totally caught back up, after deciding to take a brain break tonight and take down a colossus. Three more lizards down, too! Last time I played this game, I had no idea that the lizards existed, so this is making a big change in how I'm playing the game. This one was awesome. I've had such a good time with the colossi that aren't land-based, and I hope there's a bunch more of those to come in the back half of the game. Like tegan, I still have yet to die, which is pretty sweet. If the "Thy next foe..." hint is the one I think that it is, next week's colossus is the last one that I beat in my first run at the game 7 years ago. I never saw anything past that point, so this is starting to get exciting for me. After colossus 8, we'll be in totally new territory for me, and I'm stoked to see what the game has in store.
  17. Life

    The Video Game.
  18. Life

Yay for not being shitcanned, Subbes! Also, holy shit, AkuMifune! I remember you from the day! Welcome back!
  19. New people: Read this, say hi.

That depends how susceptible you are to meet-and-greet related injury. Welcome, new folks. Also, duck if that welcome may hurt you.
  20. Mass Effect 3

Mington, you don't need to finish it within the month, you only need to activate it. Any PSN+ game can be activated from a + account while it's free, and once it's activated it's free to the account that did so until the account is cancelled. As long as I register ME3 before it's taken off the free list, it will be free to me for as long as I'm a PSN+ subscriber. It's a pretty rad service in that respect. Anything that's gone free on PSN+ since last fall when I subscribed remains tied to my account forever. I'm currently really enjoying LittleBigPlanet Kart, for example, which I think has been taken off the list by now.
  21. Idle Thumbs Spot The Difference

Strangely, it wasn't until you quoted it that I noticed the sunglasses flying off the lady's head into the water. My brain immediately inserted the "That looks expensive!" GTAIV pedestrian bark.
  22. Saturday Morning Streams

Your pikmin streams have convinced me to download a dolphin emulator and buy an adapter to plug my GCN controllers into USB. I'm going in all the way on this. Mario Sunshine in HD on my laptop. Hell yes.
  23. PL4YST4TION 4

A day late on actually watching stuff, I decided that, while composing a list of vocabulary for a French class I'm teaching tomorrow, I'd put on Giant Bomb's archive-cum-commentary thing for background. I think that the way GB did that is fantastic, and would gladly watch any future press conference streams (E3 included) in that manner. Having the GB crew MST3King their way through Sony's reveals is making this awesome. Anyway, I just got up to the Jon Blow Witness trailer thing, and have to say that, while nothing looks particularly new or must-have, overall I'm impressed. Not "day 1 perch" impressed, but probably "within a year or so of launch, if I've got the scratch" impressed. inFamous is one of my favourite series to come out of this generation, so that certainly helps. If they can improve the value of my Vita, tack on some stuff that makes the PS+ subscription I'm already loving a bit better, and promise me the same kind of indie/experimental support that they've had in the past, I'm totally in. The last year or so has totally turned me around on Sony as a platform provider, and so while I'm not chomping at the bit to buy a PS4, my interest has certainly been raised. I'm curious as hell to see what they're going to bust out at E3 now.
  24. PL4YST4TION 4

What I have gathered so far is that it will be a new console, and that PS1, 2, and 3 games will be played via streaming as a backwards compatibility option. That is a fascinating idea, but the reliance on there actually being good internet everywhere for it to work worries me. Also, I wonder how they will handle the licensing for this. Is anything that I've purchased digitally off the PSN to date going to be stream-able?
  25. I need to be planning a science lesson tonight, but before sitting down to do that I decided to get another colossus killed. 6 is down. I'm now really close to where I was when I stopped playing the game the first time. I think it was number 8? The last one I remember killing Sound familiar? Number 6 is the first time so far that I've really felt like I've taken a journey to get anywhere. Even though it only took 15 minutes (and that's stopping for 3 lizards and 4 pieces of fruit!) I felt like I covered a lot of ground just getting to him. Killing the thing itself wasn't anything particularly standout for me, but I really appreciated the trip to him this time. 5 remains my favourite colossus, but playing tonight really did trigger a nice wave of emotion as I emerged into the desert.
