Then your postman is The Pain from MGS3.
  2. Hmmm.

There will be no packaging. There will only be a postman, a swarm of bees roaming over his body, running up to your door screaming.

Is this the drunk candy thread? One time my friend and I were at a bar and she realized that her purse was like, FULL of Jolly Ranchers. In addition to a pretty good tip, we also covered the table with individually wrapped Jolly Ranchers arranged in a picture as we left. Every time we've been back to that bar, they recognize us and we get the best service. Bribe your wait-staff with candy.

That's kind of funny, the Toad thing is also a sticking point for her. She absolutely loves the N64 era Toad voice, but the newer incarnations where he got all raspy annoys the hell out of her. Mario Party 2 and Mario Kart 64 Toad is her favourite character ever, but sitting next to me while I play NSMBU the first thing she said was "Please tell me that sound isn't supposed to be Toad..."

That's fine, the girlfriend hates Donkey Kong. The noises that he makes annoy the hell out of her. He is always the AI enemy in Mario Party, just so she can mess with him. Good news then, as the Wii can live at her house and she'll be happy with it. Weird about Lost Winds, but oh well. I beat it within a week of its release and haven't really thought much about it since. Bought but only played the first chunk of the sequel as well, I wonder if that switches over. Good point about GCN controller support for Smash though. I hadn't thought about that. Oh well, no big. I've got classic pros for that, and they work acceptably well.

Sorry to hear it didn't go well for you, Tegan. At least you're getting the Blue Cross stuff in order. I'll add my voice to the chorus of people congratulating you for not being a shithead as a result of growing up in that situation. Keep on the course you've started and build yourself a network of friends starting from the one you have already come out to. You'll get there, and if your folks are just going to impede your happiness, best to leave them out of it altogether. Being raised in the 90s by a social worker who worked with AIDS patients, it's so weird to me whenever I am confronted with the truth that people still hold opinions like your parents. 90% of my mom's male coworkers were gay, and most of the people she worked to help through their treatment as well, so when meeting a new person queer was my default assumption for a long time growing up. The point being, to a whole lot of people, it isn't anything resembling a big deal that you're gay, and thinking less of you for it is an alien concept. You'll find lots of those people, and hopefully you don't need the internet to tell you that your parents' values are pretty damn fucked up. Stay strong, and until you find real world support, Idle Forums already loves you.

I finished Zelda Skyward Sword yesterday as my final hurrah with my launch Wii before I transition to the new shiny Wii U. That was a pretty good game, you guys. It had it's flaws, sure (repeating boss fights is lame even when they're GOOD boss fights. Girahim and the Imprisoned were not good boss fights), but overall I really liked it. Of course, I played my 40 hours over the course of about two years, so the gradual approach may have made me look more favourably on it than I would have had I tried to marathon it in a week, but I liked it. There were some standout dungeon designs, too. The time manipulation one in the desert was fantastic, and the final dungeon in Skyloft where you actually had to move rooms of the dungeon around like a sliding block puzzle to get where you needed to go was awesome. I think the game may have been too big for its own good, as those standout moments ended up a bit buried (why keep sending me to the Silent Realm? That place sucks!). Still, those moments DID stand out and were really worth experiencing. I think it's a fitting conclusion to my time with the Wii, and I'm really glad I finished it off before I pack the old girl up. The only console I ever camped out for, I got the very last one they had in stock on the morning of launch day at my Future Shop. Good memories, and even though the console had looooong dry spells, that doesn't change the fact that every time I fired it up I had a good time. I'd still call that a success. It will have a place on honour on that bookshelf with all my old Nintendo consoles, and the Zelda gold wii remote/nunchuck combo will still be used with the Wii U for the foreseeable future. I salute you, Wii.

Has anyone done the Wii system transfer thing? I'm eyeing it, as I don't want to re-buy a bunch of stuff for the Wii U (at least not at full price), but am holding off for two very important reasons. Number one is that I'm afraid I'll lose access to my Donkey Kong Country trilogy, as they no longer sell it on the eShop and I play my SNES games on the Wii off of an SD card. The second is that I'd like to keep a copy of Sonic (at least 1 and 2) and Mario Party 2 on the Wii so that we can keep the Wii at the girlfriend's place. Those are pretty much the only games she's ever cared about, and having the Wii there so that she could play them would be nice. I'm aware that I'd transfer the licenses in the process, but would I be able to buy new ones for the old Wii? I'd be happy to cough up the $30 or whatever so that she could keep on playing them without me having to unhook and carry a Wii U over to her house if we wanted to hang out in her bed playing old games for an hour. Does anyone have answers to either of these problems? If you've done the transfer, would anyone be able to check if the original Wii would let you buy a game that you'd purchased and transferred off of the system a second time? If you moved your licenses, can you still download DKC even though it's not for sale anymore?
  11. So I beat this game. I'm house-sitting until Saturday, and they have a really nice TV that my PS3 is hooked into at the house I'm staying at, so I wanted to finish out the game on this screen. Thoughts: 15: 16/Endgame: All this definitely made me want to fire up Ico immediately after finishing, as that's another game that I got about halfway through but never finished back in high school when it came out. In fact, yesterday I did just that. Played for about an hour and a half, and I may just find the motivation to go through it all the way this time. I'm glad I participated in this thing. Game club is a neat idea, and I'd like to try it again with something else, as I'm currently one for two on commitments to these things (Killer 7 happened right when school started to kick my ass, so it died for me fast). Any suggestions?
  12. Yeah, I also used the same tactic for 12. I had no idea you could do what that walkthrough suggested. As for your comment on 14, with all the "falling through rubble" that Wander suggests, I'm finding that as he gets weaker and weaker I don't have the patience to wait for him to get his shit together and stand up again. What I did for that fight was Made me feel like a badass every time.
  13. Link 2 The Past: 2 Past 2 Furious

Both of these things. LA was the first game that I ever completed back when I was 8 or however old I was. That game will always be my favourite Zelda, for that reason if for no other. I love LA and still think it is a high point in Nintendo history. LttP, conversely, while I have always enjoyed it and have reached the final dungeon on multiple occasions, I have never finished. I don't know why that is. Maybe this is my cue to finish this?
  14. Yeah, those bull-type ones are my least favourite by far. I really hope that 14 was the last one. It wasn't as bad as whatever number that torch one was, but it was still a pain. I didn't have quite as much trouble as you, Tegan, but after the majesty of the 13th colossus, this was a big let-down. I'm finding myself really excited now that I'm only two from the end. This has been one of the most guilt-inducing games on my guilt pile for about 7 years now, and to actually complete it but also see that it's held up for these 7 years is awesome. I've been very tempted to just plough ahead and finish this, but I'm also feeling enough loyalty to this thread that I'm not. Pumped for Tuesday and #15!
  15. Life

Congrats Tegan! I'm so damn happy for you. That's fantastic news, and having some kind of in-the-know friendbase in your city will be the first step to a much better situation. Internet high fives all around.
  16. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon

Wow, you're really taking your time with these. What are you doing in any one particular mission? I beat the game yesterday, and I think the most any mission ever took me was about 30 minutes. That one was an extreme outlier too. Granted, I didn't find all the gems, but I did get all the Boos and a fair amount of gems...
  17. Link 2 The Past: 2 Past 2 Furious

Idle Thumbs has a long history of letting joke names stand as the real name for a game's thread. Let it ride, Tegan. Also, I'm buying this immediately. I'm also buying the Oracle games the second they're available. I want more 2D Zelda in my life. Give me LTTP VC on my 3DS, and everything ill be extra rad.
  18. Number 13 (baby): So fucking good. Starting on number 14 now. I have a brand new Wii U sitting in front of me with Mario and Nintendo land, but the first order of business is to kill a giant. Then Mario.

...and the system is purchased. Doing a system update now. The Future Shop I walked into (had a $50 gift card left over from Christmas) was having a surprise unadvertised one-day promotion, so it was $50 off in addition to that gift card. I am a lucky person today. Can't wait to start playing the thing!
  20. Nintendo 3DS

Ditto. They're one of the reasons I still have my old SP around, as it's what I need to play the old GBC games. Thinking of back catalogue stuff that needs to get out there (and reasons I still have an SP), maybe now that Gamefreaks has put out their Harmoknight game (it's good!) Nintendo will remember that they have Drill Dozer and put that up for download somewhere as well.
  21. Life

Congratulations! I hope he's cool about stuff. More difficult to resolve is the parents thing. If it's not too personal, what city are they in? Is resolving things with them going to mean actually seeing them often, or will you be able to ease into it with occasional visits from (possibly) one province to another? That physical proximity thing alone could make a huge difference either way...
  22. Life

Bummer about your Dad, baconian. I'm glad you seem to have resolved this, as I have no idea what I'd do in the same situation. As for my own news, I'm now finished seven years of University. Got my evaluation from my partner teacher, no worries about passing. All I have to do is wait for the processing at the University to be done and I am a teacher. Now I get to worry about finding a teaching job in a province that just cut millions of dollars from Education despite a rapidly increasing population. Joy.
  23. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I have made the decision. As I finish my degree work this week, I'm celebrating with a Wii U. Buying one tomorrow on my way home from handing in my final paper. You win, Nintendo. You promise me Earthbound, you get my money.
  24. Nintendo 3DS

It looks like Yoshi's Story from what I've seen in screenshots. Or Yoshi's Topsy Turvy, the GBA game (that wasn't that good...).
