  1. No Ambitions, any advice?

If you love Philosophy, I would suggest (purely from a selfish "I DID THIS" standpoint) that you start there. My bachelor's degree was philosophy, and the breadth of it exposes you to so many things (while also teaching you to argue in any of them eloquently) that odds are you'll find something else you'd like to pursue into "adulthood". It was actually tutoring logic (one of my favourite subjects through the major) that made me decide to be a teacher, as I really got into helping others through things and seeing the realization hit someone who had to that point been struggling. Three years later, I'm finishing my teaching degree at 25 and feeling like an adult, but at the same time my partner and I went out and bought a dinosaur-themed bedsheet set the other day, because fuck it, dinosaurs. You only have to grow up as much as you let yourself, and being smart and accomplished is not mutually exclusive with being "mature".
  2. No Ambitions, any advice?

I just finished up my post-grad in education and am currently looking for work as an English/Elementary School teacher (am qualified for either, would prefer the latter). I've met a tonne of people who I don't think should be in a position to influence youth, but most of that is due to their pushy religious beliefs of one variety or another (to be clear: beliefs are fine, it's the pushy that bothers me). May I ask why you don't think you should be in a position of influence? That said, it took five years of undergrad and a year off school to finally decide to pursue teaching, so don't feel too bad about taking your time coming to whatever decision you may.

Yay! More people means we may get a Rhythm Heaven 3 (4 if you imported the GBA one)!
  4. Life

My step-dad has a prescription to deal with a degenerative muscle thing in his leg. It means that my whole family is pretty cool about the whole thing. It being something that we do together as a family (sitting around and Christmas sharing a pipe) has kind of killed the whole rebellious vibe for me. This also means that I only join in every six months or so, but tend to choose a good time when I do. It's always funny to me to see other people's reactions to my family's attitude towards it. They always seem to assume that the relaxed attitude means I must do a tonne, but it's kind of the opposite. In fact, in the last year, I can only recall one occasion where I've done so and wasn't with an over-50 family member. EDIT: removed explicit references because teaching applications.
  5. «Game Shop»

    It's like she's a parade of one.
  6. Space

I'm not a big fan of our new money. It's just too damned smooth. I can never tell if I'm holding one bill or three unless I do that "lick your fingers and rub them around" thing that people do to separate sides of a plastic bag. The bills look cool, and are a good idea, but shit do they need some texture.
  7. I Had A Random Thought...

My hometown is infested with them. It's the worst.
  8. General Video Game Deals Thread

I actually really like K&L 1, but never got hooked by 2. Take that for what you will.
  9. Games with dogs (pets)

They're waiting until August to capitalize on the headline "The Dog DayZ of Summer".
  10. Weird Medical Shit

Not quite so graphically disturbing, but spicy food give me absolutely no gastric trouble unless it is the very specific bird's eye pepper. I don't know what it is about that one, because no other pepper ever bothers me at all. It's weird to me.
  11. Life

I just submitted my second school board application. The first one was for screening purposes. I was screened, they liked me. They offered me the chance to apply for the real deal, with the proviso that I can't do so until I have my final evaluations from my last practicum experience in hand. That arrived Monday, so I spent the last two days getting all my crap together and getting it ready to go (when not doing girlfriend's birthday stuff with her) and clicked on "submit" on their online application bundle thingy not 5 minutes ago. Now I get to be a ridiculous bundle of nerves until I hear back. Hurray for being a grown-up?
  12. Using modern technology to help you with games.

I have never used any kind of guide with pokemon. Uniques have representations in the world, so obviously you want to catch them. Any other pokemon, I just find it if I find it. It makes the world of the games a lot more exciting to me. I feel like if I started looking up any of that data, I'd fall down a path that I would never escape.
  13. God damn, that is beautiful.
  14. I Had A Random Thought...

Given the subject of the rest of your post, it seems relevant to point out that my parents got a cat last year named Socrates. Because he is dumb, large, and bounces off things a lot, I have gradually been seeding the nickname Soccer Ball.
  15. Weird Medical Shit

Yeah, I get that. Doesn't stop me from loving spicy food or being warm though. Two toes on my right foot are connected up to the first knuckle before they split apart. Only two toes though. I always forget about it for a long period of time and then notice it in the shower or something and go "OH HOLY SHIT WHAT IS... oh yeah."
  16. Wii U Nintendo Network ID Exchange

Damn it, subbes. I will friend you on the Miiverse and we will exchange bad drawings of nintendo characters.
  17. Super Metroid Appreciation Station

If you already have it on Wii VC, the most expensive it will ever get on Wii U for you is $1.50. I give Nintendo a bit of credit for that, recognizing when you already bought something and charging a bit less than a soda if you want to run it on the gamepad and with suspend states rather than just through the Wii emulation (which doesn't cost you anything if you still want to play it that way). It's weird to be hoping that other companies emulate Nintendo when it comes to downloadable anything, but I hope my XBLA or PSN purchases may carry over in a similar way.
  18. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I've noticed they've been having weekly sales on the 3DS and Wii U lately, which is cool. I got Dillon's Rolling Western and all the Guild01 for cheap, which is cool.
  19. Dragon's Crown: Gaze past the giant witch tits

Just because you're not attracted to it doesn't mean that it isn't intended to attract.
  20. Life

I don't know how to say this without too much detail, but that is a horribly misinformed statement. If you had bad sex with a vegan, I'm sorry for you, but that does not generalize.
  21. Dragon's Crown: Gaze past the giant witch tits

I don't get how saying that something else is worse makes this not bad. As for saying hyper-muscled characters bothers you, I'm pretty sure people have explained false equivalence about a million times on this forum and it's been said better in the past, so look up an old post with that term if you think that saying the men are exaggerated too is an excuse. Look, I'm not going to say the game will be bad. Hell, for all it's character design and creepy male gaze problems, the deep mechanics and crazy situations of Bayonetta actually won me over and I liked it. I still felt creepy and gross whenever the camera lingered super long on her ass, or the character got naked for a special attack for no reason beyond "hey, now she's naked!". Ditto Miranda in Mass Effect. I love the Mass Effect games, they are some of my favourite games of this generation of consoles (even though I played them on PC...), but a lot of the way that it treats certain (female) characters is really problematic. I think that's a lot of what those of us who are bothered by this are really trying to say. At least it's all that I, personally, hope some of the defenders are taking away from this. The game may be one of the best-playing things released this year, who knows? That doesn't make the choices it makes in it's character designs less sexualized, leering, and problematic. There's nothing wrong with loving a game with problematic aspects, I do too, but you need to admit that there are some creepy parts of this worth discussing. No game, no matter how good, is beyond reproach for doing this shit over and over again. Finally, as Argobot said, there's nothing wrong with designing your characters to be busty, thin, whatever. People are busty, thin, whatever in real life too. A variety of designs would be nice. Looking at the women in this game, I see two massive pairs of breasts and asses with tiny waists between them, and one (not quite as pandering, but still in pigtails and short-shorts) waif for those who are grasping at straws to defend the first two. THIS IS NOT A JUDGEMENT OF THE GAME, it is a judgement of the design. The design creeps me the fuck out. If the game is fantastic, I may try to, as you suggest, gaze past the witch tits, but it will take a HELL of a groundswell of support from critics and fellow forumers I have a lot of respect for in order for me to even attempt to get past this design.
  22. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Don't even joke about that. If this were true, and I didn't already own the console, I would buy a Wii U for it.
  23. Super Metroid Appreciation Station

I have started about 12 games of Super Metroid over the years, but have never completed it. That said, I absolutely love it every time I play, it's just one of those games that I often forget about when something newer and shinier (and/or school work) comes along and then I have to restart a playthrough a year later or something. It's also one of the few games that has really communicated atmosphere to my partner. She has watched me play a few games (most recently sitting next to me for about half of Shadow of the Colossus) but never really plays them herself. One day she stayed in my bed all day when I went off to work, and ended up spending her time playing Wii Virtual Console. I remember coming home and the first thing she said to me being "Man, that Super Metroid is fucking SCARY. I didn't know 2D games could do that."
  24. Post your face!

I'm a 25 year old bearded white guy! Bucking the trend! No photos though. Maybe one day...
  25. Wii U Nintendo Network ID Exchange

I'm Miffy495. Big surprise. Added you, Tegan. Please be my first Wii U friend. More people need to buy this damn machine.
