Citizen Kane: The Video Game. It'll be announced in about two weeks.

A buddy of mine has passes and invited me to it next week. Your evaluation has made me a bit more curious. Really, this was just an excuse to hang out with someone I haven't seen in forever.

Slightly less (but still fairly) vague spoiler:

So... is this happening? Thanks to school being done, I have now gone from being 50 pages into Evidence of Things Unseen in April to being completely caught up on the IBC books, as well as finishing three others, and now I'm starting to wonder where that sweet sweet discussion is. Can we get some kind of status report on the Wolf Hall and Sun Also Rises episodes, as well as what to expect next (if anything)? I've got to say, thanks to the IBC I've read several books that I've greatly enjoyed that I never would have heard of otherwise, and it's bumming me out a bit that it seems to have faded away these last couple of months. If you guys are burnt out on 'casting all the time, understood. Forcing yourselves to keep at it solely for our benefit would kill a great deal of the fun vibe of the shows. Still, it'd be nice to know what's up.

I'm in! I'll add everyone tonight. My number, in the meantime, is 1934-0713-9134. Edit: Screw it, I've added everyone now. No point in delaying. Gnutpoia is open for visitors! (Hamsterdam was my first name choice, but wouldn't fit)

In order to preserve the habitat for smaller machines, computing enthusiasts often will resort to the use of charismatic mega-PCs to rally the masses to their cause.

I'm not sure what kind of art degree/training you have, but maybe try to break into a different field? I have a friend who worked as a mural painter on commission for years and did ok for herself, but after a divorce left her needing a more reliable income decided to get into metal work. It's still a fantastic artistic outlet for her as she's getting to explore sculpture while making a steady buck making signs and the like for businesses, and she's absolutely loving the work.

I have not, but my girlfriend loved it. It's on my "to read soon" pile, as a result.

Re number 3: (VAGUE hint) I'll leave you to the rest on their own. Man, I should play MI2 again.

I'm at the "if I only buy one, it's this one for damn sure" stage, not the "I AM BUYING THIS LAUNCH DAY" stage. That said, InFamous 1 and 2 are games which I love to death, so a third one is very appealing to me.

Haven't even seen the conference yet, but if what I'm reading is correct, I'm now off the "well, it looks better than an XBOne" fence and fully into "buy as soon as I have the funds" category. Have two years of PS+ banked already, due to deals on PS3 and Vita, so why the hell not?

Idle Thumbs 109: Prepare for the Jelly
miffy495 replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I was about to say something along those lines. You and I are kindred spirits, Tegan. -
As a substitute, whatever they need me to. Could be kindergarten one day and diploma level physics the next. The ultimate goal, when I get my own class, is between grade one and three.

I've been beaten up outside a bar by a drunk guy before, though not nearly as seriously (just fucked up my teeth). It's amazing how stupid people can be. I'm really sorry to hear about your brother, but happy that things seem to be shaping up about as positively as they could. I feel like kind of a butt writing about a super happy thing following that, but I just got the news. I have been hired by the Calgary Board of Education! Starting in September, I will be on the substitute teacher list at minimum, and if I run the gauntlet just right and luck into a job opening over the summer, I may be able to get my own classroom. That is unlikely, though. What is super important is that I am now officially a freaking teacher! Having the certificate is one thing, having a damn JOB is another!

Chat makes this so much better. I find the pressers to be largely silly and pointless, but the chat makes them genuinely entertaining. That said, I may actually be working for ALL of the conferences this year. Any I can make it to chat for, I shall.

I'll be picking one up tonight after I get my girlfriend from class, I believe. Can you let me know what you did to get it to work? Never tried anything like that before (at least not since custom firmware on my first gen PSP), but if it really is that simply I'm completely down.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I want to call and text, and am suspicious that having access to twitter at all times may make me start to actually use the account that I've posted about 50 times to in five years. I'm not looking to do a tonne of things with it, I'm not particularly plugged in to things and have not a lot of interest in becoming so. I'll probably end up with a fairly low data plan, which is fine because I would like to have access to maps when I'm out in my car (I am kinda prone to getting lost). Actually, I'm with you on the car too. I have a 15 year old Toyota and it's great, so I'll keep using it until it's not. The 15 year old car thing means that nothing will plug into it, but I have a "car ipod" (an ipod which the headphone jack doesn't work on anymore that will play plugged into my car through the cigarette lighter) and that suits me just fine while I'm driving. My girlfriend has the same phone as you and likes it well enough, and also a new Galaxy tablet, so our household already being on that ecosystem is what made me lean towards the s4 in the first place. More convenience than anything else. I think I will probably end up going with the Galaxy s4 for now, and later on when I have a big boy job I'll worry about switching if I'm unhappy with it. Canada just this week outlawed phone plans longer than two years, so it won't be a long wait if I want to switch anyway. Thanks for all the tips, everybody. I will likely unlock the phone thanks to all of your advice, install ScummVM on it, play through DOTT, maybe Full Throttle, and then only ever text and call again until my plan runs out. Still, all the advice is very much appreciated and I've learned a hell of a lot more about these things than I started with thanks to your responses.

I see what you did there.

As long as they don't pronounce it "Obstensively" like Klepek does. I actually do like that guy, but goddamn it if I don't flinch every time he butchers that word.

Hell yes! Free VLR is the excuse I think I've been waiting for to open that copy of 999 that showed up in the middle of my practicum.

With other people talking about how they pictured the narrator, I think it's relevant to point out here that this is the book that finally made me realize that I don't form mental images of characters in my head (at least not physical ones) while reading. The fact that we never know for sure what the patient or therapist look like did not bother me in the least, and I then started to reflect on if that made them any different from other characters who we had descriptions of. It did not at all. I then went back to think about other characters who had been well described in one way or another and started to realize that I never really make a picture in my head of a character even when provided with all of this information. When reading, for whatever reasons, characters are always just kind of amorphous collaborations of their traits without much physical presence. I noticed this a bit with Telegraph Avenue as well, though in that case it was more because I had to be reminded that characters had races and weren't just bundles of traits. In that book, I was always trying to force myself to maintain a mental image of the characters in order to make certain parts of the story relevant. In this one, it was more the realization that a lack of physical description made absolutely no difference to me. Weird. Anyone else have a moment like this?

Not Steve Gaynor? He even gave her that "horse bag" shout out back in the day...

Purely a gut-emotional choice, but Link's Awakening does it for me. It was the first game I ever bought with my own money. It introduced me to the concept of exploring a world rather than just going from level to level. It was the first game I ever beat. It is so many firsts for me, and on top of that it's just a fantastic game that does still hold up. I still remember the multi-level stuff in the Eagle's Tower blowing my mind completely out of my skull (IGN.com). When I finished the Wind Fish's egg, I was actually between games at a volleyball tournament when I was 9 years old. I took my gameboy to the damn tournament with me because I knew how close I was to getting it done. That game has been formative to my adult gaming tastes in so many ways, it has to take this spot. Honourable Mentions: Playing my friend Evan's big brother's copy of Monkey Island 2 at their house when I was a little kid introduced me to adventure games, which are the reason I'm a part of this community at all. Lemmings is the only game that my entire family would gather around the old DOS computer to play together when I was like 5 years old. Dark Forces was the first 3D game I ever saw and revealed a new possibility for games to me. I know it doesn't hold up, but this is a personal list, so fuck off.

Just don't say *********.
