  1. Dig up your shit!

Man, the Game Gear. I don't even know where the machine itself is anymore. All of a sudden though, I have a mysterious urge to play Sonic 2 again. Mmmm... sonic 2. Of course, I could always just wait for the Mega Collection 2 to come out for the 'cube. From what I hear it'll have all the sonic games that didn't make it on to the first disk. CD, the Game Gear ones, the arcade fighters... lotsa goodness. I should see how much of my SNES stuff I can find. I own every game I had for the system on GBA now, but it'd be nice to feel the controler between my hands again during a game of DKC2.
  2. London

I must find more of this "Chris Morris'" work now. Where can I track the bugger down so I may laugh merrily at him?
  3. London

Damn, us Canucks are just hearing about it now. Glad to hear everyone is OK, and my condolences to all involved. Good luck sorthing that shit out. Canada is behind you folks, even though our PM is kind of a pussy and hasn't made a statement yet.
  4. We're failures as gamers

He does seem to have that effect.
  5. We're failures as gamers

yup, everyone except Yufster. They build forts out of pillows and cover the sides with "No Girls Allowed" signs. Of course, as gamers, I'm sure most of us do... I've never tried that Gameboy multiplayer stuff. Was it actually any fun once you got it working? My link cable has been used quite infrequently. My sister wanted to be Tingle when I played Wind Waker, and I used it with Fusion to unlock the Fusion Suit and original Metroid in Prime, but other than that I may as well have sealed up my $15 (Canadian. Probably about $10, 6 pounds, whatever. I'm talking out my ass here anyway.) and left it on my desk where it could collect dust. Same effect without the trip to EB. Just a differently shaped hole in the dust...
  6. Why isn't Psychonauts selling well?

Hmm... of those of us here who live in North America, I wonder exactly how much a percentage of PC buyers we make up (I've got my copy!) ... I think most of the problem is that no one will stock it. At my local EB (the only game store I can get to in under 45 minutes) I was able to pre-order it A WEEK AFTER RELEASE. I did this because I was checking in every day and they still didn't have it, so I slapped down my cash and two weeks later picked the damn thing up. I think they may have actually ordered a copy specifically for me, which tells you how reluctant they are to take a chance on this one. It was the same problem I ran into last November with Alien Hominid, but in that case I didn't get the game until about March. Bottom line, gaming has become a bit TOO much of a serious industry, and none of the stores will stock the risky but good stuff.

Yeah, but the wavebird is just so goddamned comfortable. With that helicopter thing, my problem wasn't with the aiming or destroying of the actual cars (big explosions just come naturally to me, I guess) but with the fact that I had to land the helicopter just friggin' PERFECTLY afterwards and still be within the time limit. I had the destruction thing down after a couple of tries, but it took an hour and a half to actually get a landing that the game didn't call "95%" *mumble* stupid nazi game */mumble* Now I'm working on aqquiring every gang territory in LS, because I'm sick of those "Our hood is under attack!" notices, and figure that if there aren't any opponents left, my "hoods" will probably remain safe. I'm at about 40% right now, with the Vagos holding on to their last territory and, I imagine, crying just a little bit. The Ballas still have quite a bit, but I'm saving their tears for last, as they will undoubtedly be the sweetest. Grove 4 Life, yee-ah! Or, you know, whatever the suburban white-boy equivalent would be...
  8. San Andreas (PC)

Yeah, I got the pad specifically for Psychonauts (I don't have a PS2, just a controller...), but it's really made the helicopters so much better. While I did manage to master the keyboard controls for Vice, the camera in SA seems kind of borked, and the methods that served me well two years ago proved themselves inneffective. Also, as the Playstation controller was originally just an SNES controller with extra (and uncomfortable) shoulder buttons, your NES and SNES original ROMs (Like the amazing "Johnny the Homicidal Mario." Seriously. Check it out if you like JCV at all) all control beautifully true to how they would on the real system. A-yup. I'd get one. Hell, I did...
  9. Tell Us About Yourself

Hey folks, I've been with this site since the beginning, and read Mojo for years before that, but only decided to become a forum member about 6 months ago. Now, I shall describe myself to you. My real name is Peter Worthington, a moniker I share with an ultra-conservative newspaper columnist from the Toronto Sun. This was a problem when I was growing up in said city, but I have since moved to Calgary where this is less of a problem. I'm a youngun, 17 years old to be exact, and am off to my first year of Uni in the fall. Like Rodi, I own the Invader Zim house (w00t indeed!). I also own every system Nintendo has ever made (Virtual Boy included, a fact I wear as a badge of honour). I am fluent in Le Francais, but cannot figure out how to put accents into this box. First game played: Hugo's House of Horrors (anyone else remember that series?) which led me into many an adventure over the years. ...And that's me. If there's anything else you want to know, I guarantee nothing, but I may tell you. This forum rocks, etc etc, and now I shall return to my hole of gaming (read: basement) and continue with GTA (which, despite being 13 when GTAIII debuted, I have played every single one of on release. Suckers)
  10. So many falling blocks...

Thanks. In my 20-ish posts, I try to do what I can. Efficiency all the way.
  11. San Andreas (PC)

Success!! Holy crap. 1 hour for gold on everything but "Destroy Targets," 1 and a half for "Destroy Targets" itself. Drove me f*cking crazy, but I now have an apache. Huzzah! ... and on the PC version, too.
  12. San Andreas (PC)

Well, for the flying and copters, I have a PS2 pad right next to my keyboard that works just fine with the game. All I gotta do is switch over and life is sweet. Damned if I can get that last Gold in flight school though. After an hour of play, I got everything except for Any tips? Edit: By the way: Snubs, the link in your signature is broken, eh? WHAT DOES THE MONKEY SAY??? It's keeping me awake at night...
  13. San Andreas (PC)

Thanks, now I have to work my ass off to get gold on every flight mission. Bye bye countless hours of precious life...
  14. Gah!

Mmmm... another chance for a Kirby fanboy post. I do so loves mah DS... So how many medals do you have? I'm at around 210, have beaten the game with all characters and have unlocked everything but the very last secret. In short, I've played it to death and yet inexplicably still love it. But alas, how Meteos has absorbed my life. Must... Get... Last few... Medals... so I can... begin... talking normally... AGAIN! I want that cartridge completely whupped before I leave for Saskatchewan next week. Think I can do it? In other news, when I close my eyes, I can still see the falling Meteos blocks. Please help.
  15. San Andreas (PC)

I don't get why everyone wants to complain so much about the controls for flying the RC plane (or, in Vice City's case, 'copter) in the GTA games. They're really not as bad as they could be. The flight school took no time at all, Zero's mission with the RC plane was pretty simple (got it on the second try) and in Vice, "Demolition Man" was really not a problem. If you want to see truly borked flight controls, there are much better options available. Anyone else tried to play "Secret Weapons Over Normandy" on a PC with keyboard, Joystick, OR gamepad? You can't even bank properly! All you do is jam to the side and the game gives you an automatic amount of roll. Props to Rockstar for actually giving you decent flight controls despite the fact that flight is really a minor part of the game. As this is my only post so far in this thread that has been going for a while, one more thing: Why does everyone want their character to look like Mr. T? While I understand the awesome of it, doesn't having every single person on this forum using the same character kind of take away from the personalization element that SA give you? Personally, I just went with the most expensive clothes I could find up until I got the Gimp Suit, as well as the haircut deemed most likely to get me a good sex apeal boost. (Now all the women on the street make passes at me, which serves mostly to point out how pathetic I am in real life...) It wasn't until I was well into Venturas that I noticed how strikingly similar my version of CJ looked to Sean Combs. Creepy. Still, a defining moment in random character development that the thousands of Mr. T's won't experience. Sad, in a way... ...and yes, a bus-load of gangsters would be F*ckin' sweet.
  16. So many falling blocks...

Well, SM64 DS was worth it for me, simply because I was too young/inexperienced with gaming to care when it came out on the N64, so the DS was my first time playing it. Took about a month to get everything (all 150 stars, every rabbit, etc) but now it just kind of sits on my shelf. Still, the DS is available over there, right? I know Meteos isn't yet, but I was under the impression that the system was available pretty much everywhere by now. Oh well. Good luck to ya.
  17. So many falling blocks...

like I said: get it, or send airfare. Don't make me come over there...
  18. So many falling blocks...

I hope not. I was merely trying to express my joy at Meteos and post a type of mini-review. Sorry if it irritates you, but you really didn't have to read the whole thing.
  19. Unlike most of you, I never owned a Sonic game until I got the Mega Collection for my GameCube. I've always been a Nintendo gamer at heart, and the origins of this are right here. Ahhh... Super Mario World. How fondly I remember you. It was my fourth birthday, December 1991. My mom and dad had no idea about video games. All they knew was that every time I went to my friend Evan's house, all I did was play that damned Sega Genesis. To this day (and despite it's really not being too good) Kid Chameleon is one of my favorite games as a result of these days at Evan's, but I digress. They also knew that my babysitter's daughter had an NES, and that every day after school when I was waiting for my mom to pick me up after HER class (doctorate... damn overachieving family) I would stare at Battletoads for hours on end. God I loved Battletoads. That year, I begged and begged and begged for a Nintendo of my own. In retrospect, I was quite the annoying little puke. But the day came. (One of the benefits of a birthday so close to christmas is that when something is expensive, you can convince your parents by saying "well then make a COMBINED present!") On my birthday, my dad had already gone to all the trouble for me. There was the SNES hooked up, with the Super Mario World title screen showing. I played and loved Super Mario World. And luckily, I was a tactful young bugger. For the first few months until I realized that my parents' cluelessness had blessed me with superior technology, I was dissappointed. Why you ask? Because I could never fucking play Battletoads on an SNES! Luckily when Battletoads vs. Double Dragon shipped, all was made well again, and my younger sister and I would play co-op late into the night. She's not much of a gamer anymore, sticking to Harvest Moon, Anything with Yoshi, and Donkey Konga, but those late night gaming sessions turned me into the nerd I am today. Thanks, mom and dad, for getting me the wrong thing for my birthday. That screw up shaped me more than I would ever have guessed.
  20. Chibi Robo: game we missed at E3

Am I the only one who thinks that Chibi looks a bit like a sqashed version of Gir from "Invader Zim?" (for a low-rez, crappy image, check out my avatar) His head is flatter, but I get the feeling that if I can ever get my hands on this game I'll be squealing with joy as I run Chibi around the house screaming quotes from the show, thus really pissing off my roommates. I can see it now... *wavy flashback-style focus* Me: "IT WAS ME! I WAS THE TURKEY ALL ALONG!! DON'T YA GET IT?!? IT WAS MEEEEEEE!!!!!" Roommate: "Peter, shut the fuck up before I cram that wavebird somewhere unpleasant." Me: "Huh?" Roommate: "I mean your ASS, you dipshit." Me: "Right. Sorry." *back into regular focus* Good times, good times.
  21. Yoshi's Topsy Turvy

Did anyone else buy this yet? I like it. I mean, It's not as good as the older Yoshi platformers, and the tilting does seem kind of tacked on, but it's good fun. Definitely not as bad as most reviewers are saying, anyway. Too bad there's nowhere I know of that'll let me rent a portable game, cause this game would be the perfect kind to rent over the weekend, then be done with it. If you're into Nintendo's "re-shaping the industry" kick (I know I am) then this game is worth a try. I'll probably end up mailing it to my little sister once I've played it to death though. She loves everything Yoshi. ANYWAY... Any other thoughts on this game?
  22. Yoshi's Topsy Turvy

A while back there was a Meteos demo that someone made in Flash. It was the same gameplay, but slowed down substantially and with none of the graphical touches. Unfortunately, while looking for a link, everything that I found just ended up not responding, so I don't know if it's been taken down or what happened. Oh well. If you can find it, it's worth a try. Very addictive.
  23. Yoshi's Topsy Turvy

Mmmm... Meteos. Been #1 on my list for a while. (That and Geist. I'm a major Nintendork) Kirby came out of nowhere and brought a great deal of the awesome, but it's sweetness is tempered by the fact that Meteos is only a week away from release where I live.
  24. Yoshi's Topsy Turvy

If you don't have high hopes for Topsy Turvy, you'll probably be pleasantly surprised. I just got it earlier today though and from what I hear, after 52-odd levels of the same stuff it gets pretty dull. As for Kirby, part of the magic of it is in that although it takes advantage of what many would consider a gimmick, the game itself is so seamless that you don't notice. It just feels right to be playing Kirby with a pen. As Chris said, Tycho is right on with this one. Working on level 7-3 with 137 medals right now, although it's 5 in the morning where I am and I should probably head to bed sometime soon. I'll have to temporarily steal my sister's copy of "Magic Mirror" once I've beaten Canvas to unlock Waddle Doo as a playable character. My ultimate goal is to unlock DeDeDe, but Meteos will probably come out first and there will go my hopes of that. Anyway, I'm rambling. I need to watch that. To SLEEP!
  25. Where's the DS love?

I realize that it isn't out in Europe yet, but how many others here have a Nintendo DS? I just need to vent about the severe lack of games. Everything that I've played is fantastic (Feel the Magic, Mario 64, WarioWare, Metroid demo) but I've finished them all entirely (even unlocked every goddamned outfit in FTM) and there's nothing else worth looking at until Rayman at the end of the month, and then after that, Viewtiful Joe and full version Metroid in August. It hurts because I love my DS so much, but can't find a use for it...
