yeah, I've had similar problems with the voice recognition. "Sam? Sam? Sam! Sam! Sam! SAM! GET THE FUCK OVER HERE YOU STUPID MUTT!!! Sam?" Otherwise, much fun. Plus I won my first flying disc tourney last night! Huzzah!

Hey now, you better not be insulting the cube in front of me. I love that little purple box beside the TV. Don't make me start a rant...

Yeah, I feel the same way about Vin Diesel. Everyone remembers his crappy movies, but almost noone will aknowlege that he was f*cking great in Private Ryan or any of the countless indie films he's been in.

I'd cut off the first Gen with the death of the 2600. Nintendo's arrival as a console manufacturer really kicked off the second generation in my mind, with the first gen players being the hardest of the hard-core who would play on the really old computers, journey to the arcades, and maybe still have a copy of "Adventure" sitting somewhere in the attic. This would make me (and I think most of us) second generation, although I think the Thumb is one of the few places online where this actually matters. We respect our elders, dagnabbit!

No, it's not particularly challenging. What it is is just awesome. If you're just clearing the levels for the sake of clearing them, the game won't take you very long at all. The beauty of the game is in the feeling that it evokes. On the last level, if you can resist cracking a huge smile when you roll up Godzilla (or "Mogran" as the game calls him) or that gleeful moment when you pick up the entire island that you started the round on, there is a special place in hell for you. You seem to be sold on the style, which is good. It shows you have an appreciation for these things. This is a game that works its way into your system. I beat it the day after I bought it, but a month later, I'm still playing it just as much if not more than the other games I've picked up used for the system. I need that high score, that one present that eludes me, whatever. The game is not hard, but the game does not end. Take that as you will. At $20 though, I'd pick it up anyway. Even if it turns out not to be your thing, odds are someone you know will be sucked into the game world. This game begs to be enjoyed, so good luck to you.

I went with Shaggable. She's not as hot as all the media exposure she's been getting would have you believe, but she is above average. It's something about her face, I think. makes her look almost TOO young. As nice as her body is, her face almost makes you feel like a pervert for checking her out. *shudder*

Well, I love Mr. T, but he's no Tim Schafer/Ron Gilbert/other Thumb favorite.

Maybe for you guys, but I've never preordered a game that I wasn't sure of. The PC version of Vice City, Half Life 2, Psychonauts, and now Katamari. 4 games that I've preordered in my life, 3 games that I've loved, one that I'm almost certain I will love. There's nothing wrong with Preordering if you do it responsably...

Finally, a game series WORTHY of being ripped apart/shat on by Uwe Boll.

Site has a promising start, although as many have pointed out before, the blanket term used as a name isn't as effective/descriptive as it could be. Still, I look forward to seeing where this project goes. Kudos, new guy, may you frequent the forums for a while.

The thumb has grown up. We're attracting the CS dorks (not that you who play it are, just that dude who spammed in 1337) and the MMO spammers. I feel like part of a community really coming into it's own. Soon, it will finally blossom into a woman. *single tear of joy*

Yay for Nintendo indeed. You forgot about DK and the inventive platforming of Jungle Beat. Not fantastic, but a solid, fun, and NEW way of playing.

It would just be: ACTION!

I uh.... never got around to playing Sands of Time...

I don't cavort nearly as often as I'd like to anymore...

Thank God my family is so damn nerdy. We have a fucking Timex PC for god's sake! I used to play nothing but thinking games back in the day, starting with a spelling game based off of Snoopy and the Red Baron for the C64. Good fun, that (for a two year old). Then came the graphic adventures. The thought of fitting the puzzles into a narrative intrigued my dad, and he bought a copy of Hugo's House of Horrors. I was three. I played it. I never got more than 15 minutes into a game before I was killed by a werewolf (always that damn werewolf!!!) but I was hooked on adventures as a result. It wasn't until I saw a friend's brother playing Monkey Island that I realized that controls could be more elegant than typing "walk to door," but despite being really brought in by the LA adventures, Hugo was my first.

I second the motion.

Hey now, I've only been a forum member for 8 months and I started forming opinions a while ago. I don't think I'm hated. Am I? AM I?? WHY WON'T YOU ANSWER!?!?!? *runs away crying*

Hey, I really like Chaos Theory. Yeah, it's more of the same, but no game makes you feel more like a silent machine of death. I got through the entire game killing absolutely noone except the people I was ordered to. Also, never set off an alarm. The game may not be anything special, but the emotional response to it is incredible. Splinter Cell is the best source for that "I am a ghost. A shadow. Absolute fuckin' death-on-a-stick. Booyah." feeling that you can find.

Yeah, most of the really retro games were released when I was too young to care. Stupid being 17....

*bows* I do what I can.

Yeah, there's a difference between hardcore, H-Core and hXc. I kind of think that hardcore is what Chris has been talking about, H-Core is the people who play a lot of the big FPS's and the like but don't really pay attention to any of the smaller releases. hXc is the really annoying kind. The people that are completely fluent in 1337 and would throw up looking at something like Nintendogs (on a side note, I am now the proud owner of a miniature pinscher named Sam). That is my understanding of hardcore. Anyone with a more detailed analysis, I'm aware that my definition kinda sucks and am open to a new one.

I've never owned a console capable of playing a Shenmue game, and as such have never played one. I don't even know what genre it's in, only that the story kicks ass. What's the deal with this series anyway?

I heard 13th from the guy at EB, 6th from Gamespot. I normally trust EB more because things are sometimes released a week or so later in Canada. I'll preorder it and pick it up whenever they tell me. That works for me, I suggest you do something similar.
