Damn threads grow up too fast nowadays.

Well, I've had mine for about two months now. Lumines is great, but really all that's worth playing. At this point, I'm waiting on GTA and Burnout. After that, God knows what'll be worth playing. If you'd been able to get your hands on a pre-firmware update PSP, I'd recommend it, as all it's really good for right now is playing all those old SNES games I'd forgotten were awesome. Without homebrew, I really can't see the point until some real killer apps come out.

What happened to the lighthearted mood that this thread started with?
-
Eyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.... *ahem* yeah.

Damn, I never really played that far into TS2, but now I feel a sudden urge to boot it up for some good, zombie blastin' times. First though, I need to try out killing floor, as it finished downloading sometime while I was at work, and I have just returned home. Time for some apocalyptic fun!

There's a mod for UT2004 called Hollow Moon that you guys may want to check out. It's gameplay is kinda standard, but the atmosphere is amazing. First off, the entire game plays in black and white, lending it the feel of a 1950s era Sci-Fi. Also, you see the world through a visor, like metroid prime except without displays. It's just a visor, but it adds to the experience. Also, there are no sound effects, only atmospheric music, as the game takes place in space and you wouldn't be able to hear them anyway. Again, quite generic gameplay, but damn if the whole experience isn't cool.

Dammit, I really liked the fourth Monkey Island. It wasn't perfect, but it was a fun little adventure game, and one of the better chances for adventures in recent years...

Just the fact that Mario doesn't really jump anymore (I've become incredibly dependant on the hover nozzle) is enough of a change, really.

God, that Iwata was perfect. Very funny shit indeed.

Not really. You can beat it in the sense that you can clear all 4 levels, but then they just loop them and make them incrementally harder until you finally fail.

I have a confession. I love the Godzilla Fighting games. The first one, Destroy all Monsters Melee, I got because it was $20, the second, simply because you can fight as Jet Jaguar. These games are stupid, pointless, and the single player mechanics are terrible, but when you get two people facing off in the city of their choice hurling buildings at each other, somthing magical happens. The game becomes good. This is the only game I own where the only truly enjoyable mode is 2 player. SP, the AI sucks. 3 or 4 people, the game becomes convoluted and bad. 2, we have gaming gold.

Hmmm... I saw this in the case at the Radio Shack (trying to track down GCN component cables is hell...) and considered picking it up. My interest is now renewed.

WHY should you be able to win though? I find the idea of an unwinnable game incredibly intriguing for some reason, and it is very in keeping with Romero-style zombie fun. Think of it like Tetris, but with attackers instead of blocks. You can wear down the machine. Hell, with a good deal of skill, you can go for hours at a time, but you can never truly beat it. New status symbols would emerge as people are able to say "Yeah, I survived for X hours in this game" and other players would be in awe. You can't beat Lumines. You can't beat Tetris. You can't beat Donkey Kong. Are these games less fun because of that? Hell no.

When I was four, my babysitter's daughter told me that the USA was a sewer. This made total sense to me, as if they were below us on the map, the must be below us physically too. I believed this until I was 6. In my defense, I knew that America was a country, just not that America and the USA were one and the same. ...God the song "Surfin' USA" disturbed me...

Thanks man. Cheers are in order. Unfortunately, all I have on hand is Dr. Pepper. SKOAL!

Back to Indigo Prophesy, what do you think are the odds of us Canucks getting the uncensored version? We typically get ripped off by the US policies, but not always, so I have no idea whether or not I'll need to import.

Yeah. I would absolutely love a game where there's no chance of success. Provided, of course, that the ways of dying are varried and creative. Maybe some kind of reward system where the longer you can survive, the cooler your death animation is. I think I remember reading about a mod where you couldn't possibly win (against zombies, no less.) It's in a copy of PC Gamer around here somewhere. Hang on. *rummages around* Found it. Killing Floor, a mod for UT2004. Has you and other players teaming up to see who can survive the longest against endless waves of zombies. I think I'll be downloading that tonight. EDIT: Dammit, they're not putting up the full version link until tomorrow. I guess I'll be downloading it tomorrow night.

Beloved Uwe Boll to start his next directing adventure in July
miffy495 replied to Kolzig's topic in Movies & Television
Hasn't the man done enough to hurt popular culture??? (Johnson, Boll, take your pick...) Poor Rock, always having his talents completely ignored for these shitty movies. -
Hmm... I still haven't played RE4, having never been able to get into survival horror in the past. Worth a shot, I'm guessing? This forum hasn't dissappointed me yet, your word is law, boys.

That is some Zen shit there, man. I've played the eternal final level a few times through now, and though I do prefer the timed mode, I've never got that emptiness that the writer seems to have. I just say "Ok, well, that's that. Back to whatever I was doing that I needed this half-hour break from," and shut the machine off. Oh, I completely agree man. I'm not saying that we should stop looking for meaning, just that we should be aware of when we're starting to look too hard for it. There is some real meaning out there in every kind of media, but we have to be able to just relax and enjoy a good time when the opportunity presents itself as well. Not all the world has meaning, and too many people try to trick themselves into believing that everything is meant to impart a deeper message.

I tried that Remo you told me about, and it was delicious!

Damn. I want one so fucking bad... -
Yeah, I just really didn't see the point of posting when Mother Teresa's post count was 0. If she's lurking around here somewhere, than happy belated birthday, the Thumb is full of love and good wishes for you. But seriously, POST.

Not true, the shoes could be rocking quitely in the closet, accompanied by the sandals, while the boots look on disdainfully. The socks can still be rocking on the feet, with the toes greatly enjoying the extra rocking that they would normally not get, especially when a Thumb is wearing them. From the forums, I've gathered that it takes quite a bit to even mildly rock our baby toes. (Oh, and after the Hubbard interview, I've been replaying NOLF2 and Tron 2.0, my two favorite Monolith games (and favorite FPSs for that matter). Mmmmmm... delicious Monolith goodness.)

With regards to the Katamari thing, I'm not sure if Ron's article was meant to be a joke or not but I feel the need to put up SiN's quote from the responses: If you work hard enough at it, you can read anything from anything. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it certainly shows you're a creative person, anyway. The only problem that I have with this is that it seems like when people do this they're just trying to justify their enjoyment of something by making the activity sound smarter. To me, it points to a type of person who can't enjoy something for it's own sake. Again, nothing wrong with that, but you may not end up leading a very fulfilling life. (By the way, Walter. No offence intended. It seemed like your initial response took what I was saying kind of the wrong way. Sorry about that.)

Nice job man. I'm largely in agreement. Just because I prefer games like Psychonauts and BG&E, doesn't mean that I can't have fun just blowing things up for a half hour now and then. I especially like your point in reference to gamers being idiots. I'm Canadian, and our current PM is, in my mind, an idiot. His party doesn't speak for me. However, that doesn't mean that the majority didn't elect him, and so I still follow the people's rule. We need to remember that with every game that we buy, we're voting for that publisher/developer/genre as well. The games we like are being out-voted, but that's just something we need to come to accept. The people have spoken. We need to campaign harder, yes, but we may as well enjoy the benefits that the current industry has to offer until the next election/holiday buying frenzy allows us to change things. Also, yeah. Let's have us a gaming crash. The kind that only the truly hard-core who've been playing all their lives would stick through. When it's over and the dust has settled, we'll be the only ones left still buying/voting. Guess what games will be in power then?
