Hey, just because you own a game doesn't mean you won't use a noCD/DVD patch. I play FEAR, Far Cry, and many others with no disc patches on 'em, and own every game that I play. It's a convenience thing man. If the option is available and your desk looks like hell, it's a lot better than spending 10 minutes of valuable playing time digging around for the disk.

Heat Vision pilot (Jack Black, Ben Stiller)
miffy495 replied to Salka's topic in Movies & Television
Ditto. I watched it at four Friday morning, and by 5 Friday afternoon I was at a friend's house with about 6 of us gathered around the computer laughing our asses off. So good. Go discovering new cult stuff! -

From the amazing team that brought you "Envy" ... Edit: Ok, also just watched the intro. I like. Duite a bit. Damn fox... -
I actually just watched that episode about 2 minutes ago. I must commend n0wak on his insight. They say that DVD hadn't really caught on in Japan at that point, but when the PS2 arrived it was the cheapest player available in the country, thus the PS2 sold like crazy simply because it could play DVDs. The PS2 outsold the Dreamcast based on it's capabilities, not its games, but then had all the lead it needed to take over entirely. This show is much better than I'd expected, I may have to watch some more soon...

I got mine for about $85 Canadian

As an atheist, there's really nothing that you can say that would offend me given the right context. The only time I'm uncomfortable with swearing is if it's racial/homophobic and the person could actually MEAN it. If you're in a group that's got a mix of everything and you drop a slur in joking, I don't have a problem with it, but if you're (to use a Calgary example) at the stampede, in a cowboy hat, talking about how those (WARNING! SLUR ALERT!!!) fags (/SLUR ALERT!) are ruining society, that could get to me. It's all about the context and intonation. As for the Elder Scrolls, I'm not really familiar with that universe, but if a jailkeeper or someone who's covered in shit and looks like he spent the morning wallowing in an outhouse drops the f-bomb a few times, I wouldn't be all that shocked or offended. If it's a high priest saying "goddamn," there may be an issue, but from what you've said it's kinda hard to tell what the problem is. Pray Rodi, what was the specific instance that you're talking about here? Aside from simply "tense" of course. Was it a situation where you or (as you've said you don't swear very often) a friend would say goddamn? By the way, your lack of swearing is admirable. It's been pretty ingrained in me, but I can always respect someone who still bothers to watch their language. Hmmm... looks like everyone's in a rant-y mood today! Good times all around.

Ah, physically. I thought you meant on the screen. Yes, I'm also a bit iffy about how the rumble pack will look when I'm playing games that use it. oh well, not like it'll look THAT different from the warioware twisted pack.

And here I thought I wouldn't be reading an article on the thumb for a while. Good rant man. Quite enjoyable.

mmmm... pretty.

God of War was both awesome, AND overhyped. If played in a vaccum, away from all marketing or raving fans, it is enjoyed immensely. If reccommended to you by a friend in a calm manner ("dude, this game rocks. Try it out.") it is very enjoyable. If you took seriously half the crap that was being said about it, you WILL be disappointed.

On the subject, I recently went back and tried to replay TLJ, but unfortunately encountered a bug that crashes the game straight back to desktop as soon as the first cutscene starts up. I played it originally on XP, so I know it isn't that. Anyone have some tips for getting it running? If I skip the opening cutscene, the game plays just fine right up until I trigger the next cutscene, where it will promptly crash to desktop again. Whee!

oooooh! Che Wavera! I like. Some girl handing out Greenpeace fliers and uni the other day called it Wario Guevera, but mostly I just enjoy the looks I get from people who know that there is SOMETHING wrong with my shirt but can't figure out what the hell it is. As for the GBA games looking preposterous on it, praytell why? I can't wait to get my castlevania on on that thing, as the game is too damn dark for even the SP's mighty frontlit screen.

So then the responsability of the ego falls to the journalists? Having to balance morality and riteousness with sheer pandering to the biological impulses? I'm not sure if that prospect is all that comforting...

I want to see some support for the Saturn in there. After playing Panzer Dragoon Orta and the included port of the original Panzer Dragoon, I needs to play Zwei and that RPG that I've forgotten the name of. Also, never did play Nights into Dreams, but always wanted to.

preferably ninty related, as region free or not, the PS3 will be outside my price range for quite a while. If there's going to be something awesome announced soon, I'd rather it be something awesome that I can afford.

You don't really need to. If you can't achieve something through torture, is it really worth doing?

Yeah, that's plenty valid. They have said several times that they know they really aren't unbiased, but if you just turned it on one day without knowing that, it could be kind of misleading. I think of the show as kind of the anti- "Awful Truth," another documentary show that openly presented with quite a heavy bias. I still haven't seen more than half of the third season, so I can't really comment on that, but what I've seen is still pretty good. I think that the most a show like Bullshit or The Awful Truth can hope to do is to motivate a bunch of viewers to go out and do their own research. It seems to have got you doing so, and I know I've done some reading that I never would have without the show. To me, that makes it a success. As such, I really like it, but your points still stand.

My brother in law seems nice enough.... Should I not trust him?

Ah. That explains a bit. Thanks.

Snakes on a Plane (and Gnarls Barkley)

motherfuckin' yeah! -
Yeah, but I don't think Bullshit has so much a "corporate funded agenda" as it is that P&T actually happen to believe this stuff. Not many corporations are too interested in legalizing marijuana or shutting down the funeral industry, but they did episodes about that too. I myself am quite libertarian, so I don't mind that slant so much, but I don't try to fool myself into thinking that it's not there. As long as you remember to take it with a grain of salt, this show can be really damn good. Anyway, topic's been derailed enough, so I'll shut up now.

Wait, which PSP guy? As I understand it, a few of us have them and just like our DS's more. Either way, me likey the Zelda trailer and the prospect of playing a bunch of old Sega games that I never had a chance to play. Happy happy happy. :woohoo: Side note: In the Zelda trailer, is Link following the fairy around? If so, it may get a bit irritating to direct the fairy with the stylus and cover up the screen by doing so. Worries begin for me now...

If they ever decide to hit Calgary, I'll probably have a look. Edmonton's more likely though, what with Bioware and all, but it's 3 hours away and this is still all speculation. Stupid cowboy province...

honestly? That's the poster? I really hope my theater gets some that I may steal. Best. Poster. Ever. -
I second. The graphics are fantastic, but the only RPGs to ever really grab me were the ones that focused on character development through story rather than leveling up. No matter how great the gameplay may be, I'll be waiting on word about Oblivion's story before I consider picking it up.
