Damn. That was really, really good. I kinda want to play SWAT 4 after reading that, honestly. It's the only Irrational game I never got around to trying.

Don't forget the cast-iron medieval-style thongs. ...on a *cough* completely unrelated note, I've gotten both my mother and sister addicted to Orbital and Dotstream. But then, those games probably have a lot of pink in them, right?

bit Generations [GBA] Mini-Review - Part 1/2
miffy495 replied to Wrestlevania's topic in Video Gaming
Hmmm... so there ARE another 5 stages. I've gotten the first five unlocked and beaten, but still have to get two more moons to unlock the final set. -
Aside from the obvious reasons? Probably.

Heh. Reading over the weekend's Something Awful posts right now, and thought this would fit well in the thread: They seem to come to a very similar conclusion as the rest of you. Glad I gave up wasting my time to make it work.
-
The only hurdle would be pulling it off simultaneously. At present, I can't quite wrap my mind around how that would work. Even in games that use both screens at the same time for action, you're usually focusing on one and the other is in your peripheral. The way it was described makes it sound to me like they'd have you playing two games at the same time.

True. I am humbled.

Dude, I'm a fucking projectionist and I don't see that many movies in a normal month...

Well, thanks to the response from people in this thread to the demo, I've stopped caring whether or not the thing actually works. For the best, I guess. Instead of playing Bad Day LA, I just hooked up my N64 and played a bit of Conker's Bad Fur Day. An evening well wasted.

The manual for the original Crimson Skies was great. Something of a flight periodical from the alternate past. Here's a scan of the cover, in case you've never seen it. ...man, now I have to read this thing. The adverts are awesome as well.

ayup. Again, it loads up just fine but it won't let me past the opening menu. I can't even click on "Quit." Nothing registers. I have to go into task manager just to close the fucker.
-
I second that. I RTFM as well, but always skip over the actual control shit and just go for storyline stuff. Some manuals can be surprisingly deep and have a lot of work put into them. Try it out sometime.

...still haven't been able to get the damn thing to work.

Classic Videogame characters: Should they keep their trap shut?

On a somewhat related note, I miss vaguely british-sounding Elaine. Half the reason I played Wario World was for his acting. I loves the Wario voice. -
My theater opens Strangers With Candy tomorrow, and I'll probably be seeing that sometime soon. I spent half the night at work today splicing the reels together and may get around to actually watching it this weekend. I'll report back. On the one hand, it has the potential to be really stupid and not worth seeing. On the other hand, Oh, by the way: n0wak, I love your avatar. I chuckled for quite a while after seeing that on the box.

Heh. Never saw that before. Funny as all hell. This is why I don't play online anymore.

Classic Videogame characters: Should they keep their trap shut?
miffy495 replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
The problem is that you get things like the recent Sonics. Now, he DOES do lots of talking, simply because he can. Guybrush was always talkative, so they had to find him a good voice just to keep the series working. Sonic never needed to speak, and yet now he won't shut the fuck up and get back to running. Giving a voice to a character like Sonic, Mario, or Link is raising the stakes for the sake of raising the stakes. Unneccessary and generally ill-fated risk taking. -
I believe my theater may be playing it soon. 'Course, by the time anything like that comes to Calgary, it has to have played every other city on the planet first.

Classic Videogame characters: Should they keep their trap shut?
miffy495 replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
True, but that's not really the same thing. MI 1 & 2 were technically "silent," but there were reams of dialogue in them. Conversely, characters like Mario and Sonic never said anything outside of their instruction booklets. Saying that MI had no speech before 3 is like saying Final Fantasy had no speech before X. Accurate, but not really. -
Haven't seen Broken Flowers yet, but I love Coffee And Cigarrettes, and I hear that liking one means that you're inclined to like the other. Crash was ok, but very, VERY, overrated. Plus, they stole the name from Cronenberg, so fuck them.

They'd just end up screaming every time the ball hits them. "Ow!" "Yeowch!" "Dammit!" "Shit, dude, could you please just MISS?!? This hurts!" -
I got a 4.0 in the summer cousre I was taking in Japanese. I can now ask for a bathroom and similar things in Japanese. Hoping to expand on that during my second + years of uni.

I can't seem to get the demo to work. Every time I load it up I get the menu screen with people being shot and everything, but whenever I click on an option nothing happens. It makes a sound which makes me think it knows I'm clicking, it just doesn't want to do anything. Any ideas?

Didn't Psychonauts also bomb in the US? Don't get me wrong, it sucks that it did, but just because a developer is in tune with European style gaming doesn't mean that the country they're from is. -
Downloading now. I was really pumped about this when it was announced, but it's been so damn long I'd forgotten it existed.
