  1. Hold it! GBA Phonenix?!

So, order the Japanese version so I'm not constantly searching for the English one when it comes out here? (took me about 4 months for Ace Attourney... ) It's the same as Justice For All will be? New turnabout and all that? If so, I'm placing a preorder tonight. Thanks for the info.
  2. Doom 3 engine problems.

It was on Standard, which is a notch down from the top. I've just never bothered to tweak it before, so it wasn't maxed out.
  3. Doom 3 engine problems.

Yeah, they are up to date. I've been messing with the direct sound settings and I think I've got it figured out. Somehow turning up the directsound hardware accelleration helps, when everything I read was saying "you must have it set too high. Turn it down and you should see better preformance." I've now got it maxed out and it's only bothering me around points where the game saves now. This is tolerable, so I'm now enjoying the game. Thanks to everyone who helped out.
  4. Doom 3 engine problems.

Sorry, the accelleration that needed to be turned down was the DirectSound hardware accelleration. My drivers are all the official ones and up to date. Version 91.31 for the video card, 2.09.0001 for the soundcard. My motherboard is an ASUS A8V-E Deluxe, with the latest drivers. Dxdiag tells me that directx.cpl is a debug version and "may run slower" than the retail, so I'm going to try a re-install of DirectX and hope for the best. Thanks for the advice, everybody.
  5. Bargain bin bounty

Hmmm... You're in Toronto, right? Maybe if it does well over there, they'll move it westward. Doesn't affect me that much, as my local HMV is three doors away from my local EB, but it would be nice to be able to go to one if the other doesn't have something.
  6. ...but they can DANCE!

Yes, that one is awesome. That was the first I saw of the game, so needless to say I'm really pumped for it now. Every time they scream, I fall a little more in love with the bunnies. (that can't be a healthy sign...) Hadn't seen the egg one before. Sweet stuff indeed.
  7. ...but they can DANCE!

Heh, I've been collecting these things. I love the vids. Haven't seen the convention ones though, so thanks for the heads up. I'm surprised they aren't infiltrating a la Sam Fisher, instead of Solid Snake. For one thing, Ubisoft owns Splinter Cell, so they can get away with the rip off.
  8. Bargain bin bounty

Hell yeah, Astro Boy rocks. It took me way to long to find it, so I preordered Gunstar Super Heroes when I had the chance. Both are great, but Astro Boy wins for depth. Although I did get stuck on the backtracking for a bit, totally worth the hunt.
  9. Bargain bin bounty

HMV sells games in the UK and maybe the rest of Europe. (not sure) I was confused the first time I saw it mentioned here as well. I wish I could get something other than generic music and DVDs at the HMVs in Canada too, but there it is.
  10. Mario Shirts

Heh. If I weren't an atheist, I'd have bought them in a second. Those are brilliantly weird.
  11. DS modding

If you have the proper tools, I can't see it being too much of a problem. You'd just need to brave the bowels of those sites of questionable moral fibre in order to find a decent tutorial. How you'd get the roms may be a bit tricky, too. I don't know of any DS emulators or such that would run homebrew roms, so I'd assume that the roms would be harder to come by than the standard SNES, NES, etc that you find on most rom sites. I have nothing against roms if you already own the games. I took my entire SNES collection with me on PSP for a roadtrip last year. (taking shifts driving/playing for about a week) Good luck to you, man.
  12. Star Fox DS

The DS is slightly more powerful than the N64. The difference is about the same as how much more powerful the Gamecube is than the PS2 though. Really not all that noticable unless they're running the same thing side by side. Still, it can pump out a bit higher res textures and a few more polys per character model. Then you've got, as Thrik said, the smaller screen which really does help make things look a lot cleaner. ...and yeah. Payday is Friday, so Star Fox is mine on Saturday.
  13. Minish Cap?.... :)

I love the idea of Tingle, but the voice sample that they use for him starts to grate on me after a while. Sounds like he's gargling sand or something. Otherwise, the whole "guy who thinks he is/wants desperately to be a fairy" bit always makes me smile when I run into him. That game does look like it has potential, though. Let's hope for a localization.
  14. bit Generations [GBA] Mini-Review - Part 1/2

Today was the arrival of Coloris, Dialhex, and Digidrive. As noone else seems to have written anything on Digidrive, here it is. Digidrive A bit complicated and intimidating at first, the game does have a demo mode where you can watch it play for a while to get a feel for the game. This is very, very useful as otherwise the game is completely baffling. Essentially, you're being bombarded from all sides by different coloured arrows. It starts with just black and red, but more are added later. You need to press directions on the d-pad as arrows approach the centre in order to send them to one of the points of a cross. Once you've built up a large enough clump of the same coloured arrow, the point turns that colour and a geometric shape appears next to it. Keep on sending more of the same colour down that point to fill in the shape. At some point, a flashing arrow will appear. Send this down that point to clear it and add all the arrows you've thrown in previously to your score. Your score needs to be constantly going up. There's a circle on the right side of the screen that moves up with your score, and there's always some plunger thing chasing it. If the plunger hits the circle, game over. If you go long enough without filling a shape and sending the score over, you lose. So yeah, very complicated for a Bitgenerations game. Is it fun though? Yeah, once you get into it. Really allows you to zone out once you get to the point where you're not focused on how to play anymore. I can definitely see it aiding with long train rides and the like. As seems to be tradition with Bitgenerations games at this point, I'll give it a 3/5, although this would be higher if it weren't such a bitch to figure out initially.
  15. Minish Cap?.... :)

I concur, although Link's Awakening is my favorite and LTTP is really the best one, Zelda 2 got way too shit a reputation for how awesome it is. When I got the Gamecube collection, I was expecting to play it for about 5 minutes and go back to the games that I'd already owned in some format and had beaten before. Not so, The Adventure of Link actually sucked me in, despite the fact that I played it about 16 (17?) years after its release.
  16. Minish Cap?.... :)

Well, my favorite-est of Zeldas is Link's Awakening, but that may also have something to do with the fact that it was the first game that I ever beat. (I was 8 when I played it, and had never had the patience for a whole game before) I even did the whole trading game. Toblix, if you have the means to play an original GB game, do yourself a favor and track it down. Graphics whore or not, it's easily one of the best pre-GBA portable games.
  17. Team Fortress 2 and Portal

I really hope it all isn't just the same stuff over and over. I think Narbacular had it right by virtue of the fact that you could beat it on your first go through in about 20 minutes. It would have gotten pretty old pretty fast had it lasted any longer. Still, I'll be getting Episode 2 regardless, so I won't be complaining about a free game.
  18. Or keep things in stock for a decent amount of time. Often I can find something on a store shelf months after Amazon and others have determined it to be a lost cause.
  19. Tim Schafer interview in the Guardian

I wouldn't want there to be a sequel unless they had a really damn good idea for it. The story that should be told has been told. Let's move on now. It'd be like Grim Fandango 2. A great thought until you realize that they've already crossed over, so what the hell can you do that isn't contrived as all fuck? So yeah, the idea of a sequel to Psychonauts, barring some immensely creative genius, .
  20. Minish Cap?.... :)

*Gasp!* Lockjaw? I'm in! "Leg it!" Last but not least, how the hell did you get your hands on a copy of Game and Watch collection? I tried to join up with Club Nintendo and register my buncha japanese games, (See: Now Playing) but they wouldn't take me because I'm a canuck...
  21. Minish Cap?.... :)

Dude, how could you have never played any of the 3d Zeldas? They are among the best games in the history of EVER. Ocarina is best, followed by Wind Waker and Majora. I loved Minish Cap, but as Zeldas go there are better. Out of the 5 portable ones, it ranks #3, behind Link's Awakening and LttP. If you're interested in the 3D Zeldas and have a gamecube, might I recommend the Zelda Collector's disk that they released a couple of years back? Has full versions of both NES and both N64 Zeldas, so you'd only be missing Wind Waker. It was never retail, a subscriber's bonus with the Nintendo magazine and bundled with new gamecubes for a few months. Still, there should be plenty of copies around if you check eBay or something similar. And yeah. Warioware Twisted looks kinds ridiculous sticking out of a lite, but plays just fine, so whatever. Ben, the only one on your list that I don't have is King of Swing. I'd heard it was kind of meh. How strong is your recommendation on this one? The rest of the list kicks ass, so I'm inclined to trust your judgement.
  22. Team Fortress 2 and Portal

Heh. I love the way they run. Also, did I hear a Wilhelm scream? I could've sworn... EDIT: Ok, TWO Wilhelm screams.
  23. "Rhythm Paradise"

Heh. I meant to encourage you, not to boast.
  24. "Rhythm Paradise"

I've got a whole bunch of 'em. Hang on a second. After checking my gameboy, I have 16 perfect hearts. Including one on each of the first 4 remixes. Just takes some practice, man. I think once you get 'em all, you unlock something. Dunno what yet, but I'm determined to find out. 32 stages left to get perfect. There are some that I've cleared perfectly, just without the "P-heart" thing prompting me to do so. These unfortunately do not give you a p-heart, no matter how perfect you were.
  25. Kieron Gillen studies System Shock

Seriously? Your classes are starting this early? U of C doesn't start up for another 2 weeks yet. Ample time to play a game or two.
