  1. Excellent Wii video on .... IGN

which either means that the aiming is only good when you're sitting a certain distance from the screen (not exactly good practice when trying to make a game accessible) or he's too proud to admit that he can work at a games website and still be bad at a game once in a while. The equivalent of a five year old complaining "Mom! Stop cleaning this room while I'm playing! You're distracting me!" hmmm... now that I think about it, I'm a bit ashamed of how many times I blamed Mario's death on my mother back in the summer of '92. That last little bit of Mario World was freaking hard.
  2. Excellent Wii video on .... IGN

Mmmm... more battalion wars. Not that the original was the best game ever or anything, but it was a damn fun little diversion. I gladly welcome a second installment, especially if it has wifi multiplay. Same goes for Strikers, although most of the fun of that comes from having 4 people in a space of about 4 cubic meters huddled around a TV trash talking each other. Damn that game is fun when you get a good crowd. Sequels for two of the better end-of-run gamecube games? I'm in. PS: I always kinda thought Red Steel was a dumb idea. This has validated that sentiment. Thank you, IGN.
  3. New Designer Threads on gamespot: John Romero

I think of Carmack as a brilliant programmer. He can make damn good engines, but he needs a team to make a game based off of it. Also, you gotta admire what he did/tried to do with Armadillo Aerospace. I always actually kinda hoped that he'd give up on games now that so many people are doing their own engines and try and get more people motivated in space exploration. A lot more people would recognize his name over that of an astronomer, and he could really get a movement going. Fingers crossed.
  4. Somebody donate me a PS2

Wow, a whole Thumb reunion. And all it took was the potential sight of titties. Gotta love the internet.
  5. New Designer Threads on gamespot: John Romero

Still not his bitch, but I don't think he's such an idiot now.
  6. Somebody donate me a PS2

She's just looking for an excuse to distribute titty pictures! We're on to you, Yufster!
  7. What's your favourite movie?

I was so close to putting that one on my list. Oh well, missed opportunity. And n0wak, you lucky bastard. Going to TIFF would require about $1000 that I don't have at the moment. I mean, CIFF starts on the 22nd, but I'll be working my ass off through most of it so I won't get to watch more than a couple of movies. I'd give several left nuts for the chance to hit Toronto over the next couple weeks.
  8. But is it art?

It's fucking cool, but it isn't art. Or if it is art, it's the equivalent of a black velvet painting of Elvis wailing into a microphone.
  9. Sailor Schoolgirl Clothes

Animal Liberation Front. A bunch of twats who go around bombing medical research labs because they use lab rats. Is he the giraffe of the crododile?
  10. Doom 3 engine problems.

So, I was wandering EB earlier this week and saw that they had Quake 4 used for about $15. I'd been meaning to play it for a while now, so I figured why not. Installed it, started to play. Problem is, I encountered the same thing that had been bugging me in the Prey demo a while back, but even worse now. The audio cuts out every once in a while and starts to loop back on me over and over. I don't see why this is happening, as my hardware specs are more than enough to handle this thing. (athlon 64 3200+, Geforce 7800GTX, 3 gigs RAM, X-Fi soundcard, etc) I realized that when I played Doom 3, it was on my old PC, so I installed it and sure enough had the same problems. So the audio glitch is isolated to Doom 3 engine games. I've been checking around the last couple of days to find a solution, as it doesn't really feel like the kind of thing that's usually brought up on the Thumb. As a last-ditch effort to get this thing to work, I'm turning to you guys. Has anyone else encountered this problem with the engine? Could you fix it, and if so, how? All I could find was something about turning down the DirectX hardware accelleration, which doesn't seem to help. Thanks, all.
  11. Wii almost as popular as pornography!

Damn, still behind the Irukandji Jellyfish though. C'mon Wii, you can take that motherfucker down a peg!
  12. Cats

Yeah, in my experience if a cat can make it past 12, it'll never die. If one of my cats gets beyond its 12th birthday, it'll live to be almost 20. Thor's brother died when he was 11, 7 years (and a cross-country move) later and Thor's still kicking around. Hobbes looks like he'll make it to almost-20 as well, as he's 13 now and quite fit. Compare that to Al, who'd lost an eye to Glaucoma when he was 10 and died two years later, and those two are doing really damn well.
  13. What's your favourite movie?

Good call man. That makes my list. Also: Save the Green Planet! (2005) The Atomic Cafe (1982) Bubba Ho-Tep (2003) This is Spinal Tap (1982) Resevoir Dogs (1991) I think that covers a bunch of good ones that have yet to be listed.
  14. Battlestar Galactica season 2 finale

Shit man, my condolences. Will you shave your pic, or leave him defiantly hairy?
  15. Cats

"Petsovernight.com. Delivering little bundles of love, in a box, directly to your door." Damn, I listened to Chatterbox pretty much the entire game. I must've heard the entire thing about 50 times, but because it was broken up by the gameplay I didn't even care. Now, I can almost recite it without noticing. Anyway, good luck with your cat adventures. I grew up with 7 of 'em, and even though there were a couple not-so-good-tempered ones, they still had their really sweet and lovable moments. Just get ready for the long haul. One of these 7 is still with me today. He's only 6 months younger than me, (thus: 18) and requires two shots of insulin a day. That and heart medication. Thor is one old sonnofabitch cat, but still manages to be awesome if you keep him medicated. Prepare yourself for the same type of thing.
  16. Forum Game

I didn't get past the "eliminate Canadian music" segment before I had to leave for work. Still, pretty damn good. (BTW, what the hell is wrong with Canadian music? Neil Young? Leonard Cohen? Killing Celine is one thing, but all Canadian music? Bah, I say.)
  17. Doublefine Not Screwed

    Cool. Good to know.
  18. Can the PS3 save Sony?

    How could we?
  19. Bargain bin bounty

Just so I'm clear, they never made an NTSC version that isn't NTSC-J, right? And I would need a modchip to play NTSC-J? I've always been confused by the whole "Japan uses NTSC, but not exactly the same NTSC that you do" thing. On the other hand, if there is an NTSC version of Vib Ribbon and I just didn't know about it, I must now begin an intensive search.
  20. Doom 3 engine problems.

Hmmm... mine only cost me $120 Canadian about 8 or 9 months ago. The Xtreme Music (read: chapest) one. Kinda pricey for sound, but it really was a noticable difference. Plus, when you compare it to how much every other possible upgrade to a computer would run you, (RAM excluded. But really, once you reach a certain point, adding any more is just pointless at the moment) it's pretty damn reasonable. Do they do the same massive markup in Europe on components that consoles get slammed with?
  21. Bargain bin bounty

Damn, and I thought Canada got ripped off paying for things. Here we pay $80 CAN for a $60 US game. (exchange rates would have it around $65 CAN) I will never complain about this again. Oh yeah, Vib Ribbon? Isn't that Japan-only? Your system is modded then, I can assume? I've been wondering about that one, as it sounds really cool. How is?
  22. ...but they can DANCE!

I've actually never played Rayman 2, so I just recently eBayed it in anticipation of 4. If nothing else, that should keep me happy for platforming, and the bunnies should make me happy about the Wii.
  23. Can the PS3 save Sony?

Huh. A damn interesting read. Don't know about the accuracy of the title though. Seems like the message is "The PS3 had Doomed Sony." Still, it's always good to brush up on your tech-behemoth history.
  24. Doom 3 engine problems.

Hmmm... I may have set it back a few months ago when the Prey Demo was giving me trouble and just forgotten about it. I did find all those pointers, but as I'd already beaten the demo I wasn't sure if I'd taken their advice or not. Allow me to check. ... Yup, I still get the stutter in Prey. Oh well. At least the game I'm playing now runs fine. From the sounds of things, Prey isn't really worth buying the full version anyway. Maybe when I can get that for $15, I'll let this concern me. Until then, I'm happy.
  25. Hold it! GBA Phonenix?!

He is one classy, classy guy. That does it. I'm ordering now. I got a coupon from when I ordered my Bitgenerations games too, so I'll use that. Cheap gameage ahoy!
