Agree on BG&E and WOW. As for MGS, I love the storyline (dunno why, honestly) but not the gameplay, so I always set it to "very easy" and blast through to watch the story unfold. With Metroid, I'm curious. Have you played the 2D ones, or just Prime? Honestly, Prime did get pretty damn boring at points, and I resorted to a guide once in a while to tell me where to go next. Without that, I probably would have given up. The GBA and SNES ones are fantastic though. As for Psychonauts, LOVE. But whatever, your opinion. Games I'm planning on getting: Zelda, Monkey Ball, Play, Rayman, Excite Truck. Go through that list from left to right until I run out of money, (because let's face it, I won't be able to afford all that on day 1) buy the rest of it at a later date.

Garr, the day just ended in my part o' the world. 'twas fun indeed. Though the lass at the campus coffee shop looked at me 's though I had the brain scurvy. And of course, I had to tell at least a couple of people that they fight like a cow. One of them even knew what I was talking about. Avast! To sleep! The eyepatch must hang back up on it's hook until it be the 19th o' September once more.

Mmmm... the Science of Sleep. I've been waiting for that one for a while. Glee.

Yeah, Episode 1 wasn't as bad as everyone says. Personally, I still prefer the Indy series to any of the Star Wars movies, but my rankings would go: Empire New Hope Jedi Phantom Sith Clones Sith had some good action and fun bits, but no Darth Maul. Between Portman's acting (or just her script. Whatever) going down the shitter and the lack of a real badass villain (How much faster could Tyrannus and Greivous have dropped?) Episode 3 didn't live up to what it could have been. A decent end, but not as good as all that. Oh, and I picked up the DVDs earlier today. HMV had 'em bundled so you could get all 3 for $75. Sweet crap. Fucking 4:3 letterboxed. At least I have them now.

I'm with you. A game taking more than 15 hours to finish pretty much guarantees that I will never be able to finish it. Full time student, 4 nights a week at work. All I play with regularity are my portables. My gaming time comes on the bus. I love my consoles, but unless I can finish a game without devoting too much time to it, it'll just end up sitting there anyway.

Maybe virtual console will get the NES version of Maniac Mansion... As for the episodes, fuckin' right! Hell, the Wii could bring back point and click gaming with it's controller.

Yeah, Little Miss Sunshine pwns. It pwns so hard I'm not even sure if I'm using that word mockingly or not this time.

When I played Prime, I loved it. Obsessed, even. Hell, I got 100% completion. I was really pumped for Echoes. I played it for about 2 hours and then forgot about it. My brain keeps telling me that it's a great game, but I can't bring myself to enjoy it as much. I don't get it...

Don't do it! Hollywoodland is really, really damn good. Black Dahlia, not bad but definitely more on the meh side of things. I've been screening Hollywoodland for a couple of weeks now and am really impressed. (saw it early in the run) Went to see Dahlia yesterday and it's not nearly as good.

You really think the truly fucked up Star Wars fanboys will have children? I believe mister Darwin and mister Dawkins would like a word with you...

Wii Connect 24 may fuck up any possible modchips. I know that with the 360, it'll check your system for mods whenever you boot up against the latest "standard" 360 hardware/software architecture that's online. Whether you're trying to get around regions with a chip or a patch, you're hosed. I assume that since the Wii is online all the time, a similar problem would occur.
-
True, Jedi is by far the worst of the three. I don't have the DVDs yet, but plan to get them soon. I also didn't buy the 2004 ones because I knew this would come along eventually, so I'd like to actually own the movies in one way or another.

Man, this region coding thing sucks. Most of my best times with the DS have been playing Japanese DS and GBA games on it. I was hoping for a similar experience with Wii.
-
Grats to Tommy. Your mock-up made the cut, despite how many times you say it's not real on your site.

I think the DS was November in North America, December in Japan, and March in Europe. Two for two on NA and Japan so far, so we'll see. Good to see that Bomberman is still Bomberman on the Wii. None of that Xtreme crap for ninty. They still have to announce a Canadian price, but I'm assuming $300, which is ok by me.

Hey, Starship Troopers was actually a pretty good show. I used to stay up until 2 in the morning (back when I considered that late) in the 9th and 10th grade to watch it on Teletoon.

I second that. Warioware was also "just a bunch of minigames" so to hell with all those who take this as a bad omen for the game.

why was otaku in bold?

Film fest starts a week tomorrow. Although n0wak and other Torontonians are getting the first swipe at the best ones, I'll post on anything that really wows me. Although I'll probably only have a chance to see a couple of flicks. *Shudder* Man, for a projectionist, this is like a cashier looking forward to Black Friday.

Man, when I saw the name of this thread, I was all ready to start telling a spammer to go impale himself on a rusty iron bar while singing church songs in swahili. Now I actually open it and it's just someone being friendly. Oh well. Welcome, I guess.

That's true. The level itself wasn't really that bad, and in retrospect, it made beating it all the more satisfying. The reason that I died so many times, though, was the camera. All of my deaths were on that bit when you're trying to climb a spiraling net while your father is flinging stuff at you. I just couldn't see what was happening and as a result missed jumps and got hit with things. The camera couldn't keep up with the spiral. It was the only time the entire game when the camera got in the way and thus became really frustrating. If the camera is constantly requiring adjustment (Mario 64, Kingdom Hearts, etc) I'm used to it by the end and can cope. In this case, I had to develop a way to work around an irritating camera at the very end of the game. Kinda throws you. On the subject of Kingdom Hearts, what the hell is with certain parts of the Aladdin level? Drove me fucking crazy.

Fallout was the first RPG that I played that didn't stick me in a generic fantasy universe. I'm not a fan of fantasy. Lord of the Rings bores me to tears, I've tried and failed on numerous occasions to get in on my friends' D&D games, etc. Up until that point I'd never really found an RPG that I liked. All it took was the change of setting to convince me that there is some merit to the genre. I've since developed an appreciation for the well made fantasy RPGs (although I still have trouble embracing the setting, I can enjoy the gameplay) and love the ones that have modern or futuristic settings. I owe Fallout for letting me experience a genre that otherwise would have remained unplayed for a long time. So yeah, good game.

I devoted a 6-hour road trip to the first Golden Sun a while back and never picked it back up. Fell victim to that RPG convention that has always irritated me so. Namely, dropping me on a giant world map without any clue as to where I'm supposed to go next to progress the story. I like exploring as much as anyone else, but I like some kind of motivation to keep exploring too.

Man, that archery one is amazing. How come all I can do is have one guy land a punch and then both of them fall over?

They make Toxie toys?
