  1. DS Games

Didn't bother finishing Trace Memory. It was alright, and some of the puzzles were really clever. ( ) Unfortunately, the game just didn't end up being that compelling for me. The whole game felt a bit hollow and the characters were pretty damned wooden. While the situation and general plot were kind of interesting, the characters didn't really impress. When I play a game for its story and the story doesn't hold me, I leave. I'll probably pick up Touch Detective now though, given the overall positive response it's gotten on the Thumb.
  2. DS Games

The fighting is actually pretty well done now. The fact that you're using melee weapons takes some getting used to at first, but once you get the hang of keeping a proper distance from your enemies, it's as natural as shooting shit in Mega Man or Metroid is. As for the game mechanics of recent Castlevanias, Think Super Metroid. With castles. And whips. And vampires. And leveling up. And creating new spells by combining collected items. And shops. And flying medusa heads. And some degree of in-game plot revelation. You get the idea.
  3. Innovation in the video game industry

We have our ways, Marek. We're always watching.
  4. Movie/TV recommendations

Are we thinking about the same Half Nelson? It just left theaters in my city (I've been projecting it for a while now, and as such have watched it several times through.) and, while a good movie, is not anything that I'd really call "noir." This is the Ryan Gosling movie, right? EDIT: Also, just got back from Borat. Fucking hilaious.
  5. DS Games

Dawn of Sorrow is awesome, but if you want value, there's always the double pack. That's got both Aria of Sorrow (Best of the GBA ones) and Harmony of Dissonance on it for about $35. (Canadian, calm down. Probably like $20-25 for you) Totally worth it.
  6. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice for All

Mostly you just stretch your little slime so that you can slingshot him at enemies, thus knocking them into the air and (hopefully) catching them on your head. You can also catch items and other slimes that you've rescued. Anything that you throw onto a rail cart or raft gets sent back to boingburg where it will live in the town. And yes, once you've sent a baddie to boingburg, they immediately become brainwashed to your cause, which I found a little bit unsettling. (What the hell are they doing to those guys to convert them so quickly?) If you send back 30 of a type of enemy, it'll offer to crew your tank, which is kinda cool. Saving all 100 slimes really wasn't that difficult, and there were only a few that I didn't get on my first time through each level. (and those were due to the fact that I needed an ability that I hadn't gotten yet) It's a very simple, but still fun little game that shares a perspective and art style with LTTP, but not a whole lot else. I'm actually kinda glad that it ended when it did, because it's simple enough that it really risked becoming stale quickly. Luckily, it didn't, so I still recommend it. ...hmm. I seem to have answered you question with a pseudo wall of text. Not really a wall. More of a curb of text. Perhaps a split-level home division of text. Sorry 'bout that.
  7. Gears of War Hype?

Meh. The fact that this dropped on the same day as Guitar Hero 2 renders it completely irrelevant to any console gaming I'll be doing for quite a while. Glad to hear I'm not missing all that much.
  8. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice for All

Well, aside from Pheonix Wright and Contact, I'm getting into March of the Minis right now. Not the best, but some solid fun for a while. Also, Rocket Slime was amazing while it lasted. (which unfortunately was not long) I've heard people complaining that some of the tank battles were quite hard, but I never found that at all. Tip for beating almost every tank after you get a crew: EDIT: decided spoiler tags would be appropriate.
  9. DS Games

Also just finished the thing with the monkey. I quite like it so far, but time will tell.
  10. OPTIONS!! For everyone! But only several of them.
  11. Sam and Max

Laughed my ass off. I actually had to get up and leave for a few minutes to compose myself at one point, even though in retrospect the joke was kinda dumb. It was just delivered so perfectly. Also, the fact that you're given a gun from the get-go is done in a way that isn't out of place at all and helps to give it more of the over the top feel of the comics. Very happy with this game.
  12. Super Smash Bros. Brawl video in Nintendo World

Don't forget the surge of new Game and Watch titles.
  13. Elite Beat Agents videos (4 songs)

Looking over the soundtrack, I gotta admit I was a little bit disappointed. Still, it's Ouendan, so I'm buying it on day one and will love it anyway, but it feels kinda like a missed opportunity to grab the uninitiated with a completely kickass tracklist.
  14. PS3 launch units drop a further 20%

I actually thought that Dead Rising had a decent shot to be that game, although for the Japanese market, you're right. They're kinda floundering. It's like MS has some kind of blockage that doesn't allow them to see that cute will actually sell over there, unlike here where your primary demographic is afraid of being seen with something, dare I say it, "sissy lookin." MS is an American company who knows what Americans like, and I've never been surprised that they get the crap kicked out of them in Japan. Pinata is a good step and everything, but that can't be it. Between Viva Pinata and Blue Dragon, I think they have a chance to get a decent foothold in Japan before many people get their hands on the PS3, but they'll have to keep it up afterwards too. Good luck to 'em, but I still can't see them having any real impact in the Japanese market until the next generation. This one would probably be used to best effect to prove that they can make games that appeal in that market, and make a bunch of 'em. Once they've got a track record, they'll be set for future consoles.
  15. Sam and Max

They'll send you the box set if you buy the season online? Sweet shit, I'll be doing that tonight then.
  16. Lumines Live

With regards to that, damn you're good at that game man. I can get to around 500,000 on the PSP, and haven't been able to clear 300,000 yet on 360, due to the fact that the pad is pretty imprecise. How you're getting to the scores that you are baffles me.
  17. Wiigion Locking

Yeah, it is. I got it because Samsung had never let me down before. Unfortunately, this problem seems to be exclusive to Samsung HDTVs. Any other brand has either much less of a delay or none at all. Word of warning to anyone considering buying one in the near future, check out the delay. I hate to say it, as I've got my hate on for them right now, but Sony actually has it worked out so that the TV will completely change the way it's operating when playing a game to eliminate the lag. I'm sure some other companies must have similar methods, so there you have it.
  18. My exciting day!

Haven't gotten more than 2 hours of sleep for about 4 nights now. Working 'till about 1 in the morning, and studying for next week's exams whenever I get the chance. But yesterday my Max n' Crossbones shirt arrived from Telltale, which means that I now get to wear it, which is especially awesome as my washing machine is broken and if it hadn't arrived I'dve been up even later last night doing laundry in the sink. Overall, shirt makes everything better.
  19. Wiigion Locking

While I'm happy to pay for the games and honestly can't wait to try out some of the old SNES games that I missed out on, I gotta say that it would be really nice to have things like 480p and widescreen support. My TV happens to be a Samsung projection TV, which means that if a game or DVD isn't running in 480p or higher, there is a slight time delay between the image and the sound. In the case of games, there's even a slight delay between input on the controller and having that shown onscreen. As such, in order to play VC games properly without 480p, I'd have to hook my Wii up to an older TV. I've got one kicking around, so it's not too much of a hassle, (I use it for my GCN, N64 and PS2) but it's a hassle nonetheless.
  20. Boxing

    works fine for me...
  21. Halloween

Every year around the 15th of October, my univeristy holds the Zombie Walk, where several hundered students all get dressed up as the best zombies they can pull off and wander around the downtown of the city. Stupid me forgot to bring a camera this year, but next time 'round I'll be sure to do so.
  22. Cheers, man. Where's the love for the publishers that are releasing the not-shit games? Although I'll admit that I bought VCS earlier today... not bad.
  23. Oddworld is back (to making games, that is..)

Wait, I'm confused now. Is this Citizen Seige thing supposed to be the third canonical entry in the Quintilogy? If so, hells yeah! If not, I'm still confused.
  24. Movie/TV recommendations

My theater's got that exclusive for the city starting on Friday. I'll be sitting in the booth watching it opening night. Can't wait.
  25. My exciting day!

There's about a foot of snow on the ground, but this is Calgary so that's to be expected. I've mostly been panic-studying for an upcoming test in Neurobiology and thinking about the Zombie movie marathon I'll be having later tonight in lieu of sleep. Oh! And our professor decided to give us a break in Social Psychology and just show us 12 Angry Men today as part of our lectures on group dynamics. Not a bad day, all things considered.
