  1. Having and getting game industry jobs

    They grow up so fast...
  2. ICO.

:hah::hah::hah::hah: *gasp!* Ok, gotta catch my breath. Thanks man, you just made my day.
  3. Xbox 360 vs PS3 (yawn?)

Unfortunately no. I would love to be able to go up to Brian and have a conversation with his chest-skull, but he just got the rest of his arms done. He's one of those "ink all the way up both arms" kinda guys. Never really seen the appeal of tatoos myself, but they seem to make him happy, so whatever. Then there's Jeff, who got a flaming skull on each kneecap. From what I've heard, the kneecap is the most painful place to tatoo. Y'know, just in case you were considering it.
  4. Xbox 360 vs PS3 (yawn?)

I hear ya. Goddamn I work a lot to cover gaming. Full time student + a lot of work means that I'll end up playing portables more than anything else, and just losing sleep when something awesome hits console. If I hadn't been given a solid raise this summer I wouldn't have even considered getting a 360, and even then there was a bit of a boost given by scholarship money. Could be worse. I know guys who blew large chunks of their scholarships on tatoos...
  5. Xbox 360 vs PS3 (yawn?)

Ok, time for a little bit of self defense. When did I mention Gears of War or Halo? I've never been a fan of the Halo series, and while the idea of mowing enemies down with a chainsaw/gun is undeniably appealing, I don't hold it in the higher echelons of maturity. What I mean is a broader kind of maturity. The tactics of GRAW, the new story mechanics (and actual attempt [emphasis on attempt] to tell a good story) brought in in Dead Rising. Then there's the fact that I love Rare. From an emotional maturity standpoint, Viva Pinata seems a hell of a lot more well-adjusted than Resistance or, yes, Gears of War. That being said, the Metal Gear series is one which I am in love with for it's mature storytelling and the fact that it doesn't treat the player like an idiot. Hell, the story is interesting enough for me that I don't even really play the game. I'll put it on the easiest setting and blast through from cutscene to cutscene, and it still feels worth it. But that's one example on the PS3 that I can hold up against several on the 360. Our hobby is admittedly still learning that mature means more than gore, but of the two HD systems, the 360 seems to me to be making a better effort. Just an observation, and how I've seen the current console war to be shaping up. Well, as stated above, I have nothing against colourful games. I love them, in fact. My friends still make fun of me because I bought Super Princess Peach. I didn't say that Gitaroo was more mature. I brought it up because when I got a PS2, it was one of the main motivating factors. (I loves me them rhythm games...) I also have nothing against Ratchet and Clank. It's a fine series, but the titles are a solid example of what I was trying to say about Sony. They like to use their sarcasm and teenager-ish wordplay as a selling point. See also: Daxter. The fact that the wisecracking sidekick got his own game where he goes around wisecracking a lot also helps me make my point. Ratchet itself is good, and sometimes I'm in the mood for that sense of humour. I'm not bashing it. I played and liked it. Again, just calling it as I see it. When did I say that I don't find games on the PS2 appealing? I brought up Gitaroo and Ico, didn't I? Other PS2 games I have loved include Rez, the Metal Gears, Devil May Cry, SotC, Sly Cooper, Lego Star Wars, (cross-platform, but I have it on PS2) the Parappa series, and of course Guitar Hero. And that's just off the top of my head. At the moment, the PS3 doesn't interest me, as it's selection of games is not what I like to play. I already said that there will probably be something in the near future that I'm dying to play on it. I love Japanese titles as well. For a good chunk of time over the past summer, I played nothing but imports on my DS, GBA, and PSP. My statement on Sony was not a reflection of their games library, but of their marketing. the PS2 has many, many amazing games. Be it from an artistic, storytelling, or pure gameplay perspective. These are not often the ones that they aggressively push though. They like to market the games that have that sarcasm to them. This gives them, I feel, the public image of the previously mentioned teenager. Compare this to the Gears of War "Mad World" ad. The game and song do seem oddly paired, (and as I've said, the game isn't really the pinnacle of maturity) but it's obvious the people that Microsoft is trying to get interested in this game. It's making far more of an emotional push than Sony usually tries for. Phew. That was far more than I intended to write. I hope you get my meaning now. I was trying to give you some concessions in my earlier post. Yeah, the PS3 really does have it's merits. The thing is, right now, none of them are really a big draw for me. We really do need to wait for a while to see what the consoles offer, but going from the previous generation and what we've seen of the current one, that's how I felt. The previous generation I was console agnostic, and played on all 3. I intended to remain so through this one, but the closing of Liksang really, really pissed me off. I'm still interested to see what Sony brings to the table though. Now that I've defended myself for agreeeing with you (I thought?) I think I'm going to go to bed. EDIT: Crap, that took me a while to write. Neither of the two previous posts were up when I started writing this. I'd say the majority of games that I fell in love with were totally out of nowhere. Lego Star Wars is a fantastic example of this, as is SotC. Honestly, I'd never even heard of Ico until about 2 years after it's release, so that was a great one too when I finally got around to it. Chibi Robo and Battalion Wars shocked the hell out of me too. And then, of course, Guitar Hero. A game that I was so skeptical about and really only knew the basics of when I picked it up turned into a total obsession that I'm still playing a year later. And it's sequel. I switch between them for the playlists.
  6. Someone is already ripping off the Miis...

I believe that it's also been confirmed that Warioware will make some kind of use of your Miis.
  7. Wii number exchange

Sure what the hell? Here it is: 5772 3626 4230 0469 Once this page starts to fill up I'll print it off and add everyone listed in one large chunk. It's kind of a pain in the ass to do, otherwise. Seeing as my computer is on a different floor and all. *sigh* Why not just give us a 360-style system Ninty? It would be so nice to only need a username...
  8. Xbox 360 vs PS3 (yawn?)

I'm actually in agreement with you on that. I'd like to think of myself as a console moderate, no matter how much Sony has pissed me off lately. (Liksang, DRM, etc) If it has decent games, I'll pick one up sooner or later. (likely later, and used so Sony doesn't get my cash. Again, they've really pissed me off.) The problem is that Playstation games, at least the ones that the system is known for, have never really interested me. I saw the Motorstorm demo runnning in an EB yesterday and I gotta admit, it's really, really beautiful. The vehicles look like they could be done by the 360 easily, but I'm not so sure about the background. There was one cliffside that I was sure was just a photo right up until the guy playing raced along the side of it. Stunning. Still, this doesn't change the fact that I don't really like racing games. As such: *poof* interest gone. Resistance just looks generic, and Blue Dragon should fill my RPG quota for a while, so the PS3 really doesn't give me much in that department either. When something huge and refreshing hits, I'll take notice. In the meantime, meh. I may have said this a couple of years ago, (not sure if I said it here or not...) but it still holds true. Each system has their attitude. Nintendo is joyously silly and proud of it. Microsoft is adult and enjoys being so. They're where you go when you want your truly "mature" (whatever that means...) games. Sony is like a teenager. Trying to be big, mature and impressive, but really too often glib and crass to truly engage a legitimately mature audience. Granted, when the next Gitaroo, Ico, etc hits, I'll be foaming at the mouth to get my hands on it. This is not, however, the kind of game that the company puts forward when showing off their system. Those games have subtitles like "Up Your Arsenal." Real nice there, Sony.
  9. I wonder how Telltale is doing

I bought the whole thing and I'm playing them as they hit, is that close enough?
  10. Consolevania and VideoGaiden

Love love love it. Although I'll admit that sometimes my North American ears have a hard time weaseling their way through all the Scottish, it's still worth it to go back and rewatch occasionally just to figure out what they're saying. TEAM!!!
  11. I kinda want a pony myself. They are awesome, and cheaper to fuel than cars.
  12. I wonder how Telltale is doing

No worries. I didn't take it that way in the first place. I'm not too concerned about TT's Sam & Max release and paying for individual episodes because I've already bought the Season Set. I just wait around a bit and suddenly one day there's Sam & Max waiting for me to play it. Then, in a few months, I get some CDs. I'm totally happy with that. Also with the way that you guys will ship me a CD for a Bone game when I buy it. You definitely have the best handle on episodic gaming that I've seen yet. Seriously though, now that that's out of the way, where's Bone Ep 3? I love the books and really wanna play the rest of the series.
  13. I wonder how Telltale is doing

Notice that afterwards I said that Telltale was doing it better than anyone else. The ultra long waits I was refering to are in the SiN and Half Life universes. I'm quite happy with the "once a month-ish" thing that TT has going on.
  14. I wonder how Telltale is doing

The wait has been too damn long recently, but as long as Telltale keeps on schedual, I don't mind theirs so much. On that note, where the hell is SiN Episode 2? For what it was, the first was decent and I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more. At least we still hear things about HL Ep2 occasionally. SiN has dissappeared completely. On the adventure subject, I've always kinda viewed the genre as like reading favorite books. Yeah, I've got MI2 almost memorized by now but I still replay it now and again. I've also got Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas almost memorized, and still reread it when I have nothing better to do. Same sort of thing. I don't mind challenging puzzles, but with adventure games I want a story that I'll want to replay a few times, even when I know exactly how to progress it.
  15. Xbox 360 vs PS3 (yawn?)

Not that I really needed any more confirmation, but thanks for validating the 360 purchase I made earlier this year, 1up! It's starting to get so I almost pity Sony. All they seem to have going on right now is that they're holding Kojima on their side.
  16. Viva Pinata

I mail-ordered it, as I usually save about $20 when I mail order a 360 game versus buying it directly. It hasn't arrived yet, but I'll be sure to chip in when it gets here. It really does look awesome, but for the time being I'm just waiting...
  17. Wii titles?

Small people are a race? And no. As a matter of fact, some of my best friends are small. (cue Colbert's "Black Friend Alan" style photo) I was merely trying to say that I am not, as you keep trying to make me admit, actually Jack Black.
  18. I saw the naked lady until Dan said otherwise. Now I can see the man... and the lady... It's one of those "Is it a duck or a bunny" kind of illusions, but with more dangly bits.
  19. Wii titles?

Swear to god, other similarities aside, I really am way taller than him... I second that. Not that the plot was really there in the first place, but come on Ancel, what the hell? At least make a little sense. ...still love the game though.
  20. Wii heat

I'm really loving the Wii. Wii Golf has proven to be unexpectedly fun after many plays (especially as I don't like real golf) and Rayman and Monkey Ball are both really good. I do have one concern that keeps on dancing around in the back of my mind though. To those other Thumbs that are currently enjoying the Wii: Does the heat that the system kicks up when it's turned off worry you at all? Now, I know WiiConnect 24 requires some power draw, but 10w seems a bit excessive for a machine that I've turned off. Especially one that runs as quietly as it does. No noticable fans is great, but even when the system has been off all night, the side of it is still warm to the touch. Am I worrying too much about my new toy? My fear is that all this heat may do some damage to the Wii in the long run. What are your thoughts on the matter?
  21. Wii heat

Mine can't seem to get a solid connection, so I'm probably better off turning it off for the time being anyway. Stupid internets...
  22. Seconded. Those eyes are awesome. Please explain how to make 'em.
  23. I'm rich!

It has been a long time since your Europeans busted out the guillotines. C'mon, let's have us a good ol' fashioned EU-wide uprising. We could even call it the Nintendo Revolution, thus pleasing stubborn fanboys everywhere.
  24. Connecting console to TV

Yup, my 360 came with everything it needed for a good setup, with the exception of the fucking expensive wireless internet add-on. As I'm in North America and have little to no knowledge of your mystical "SCART" system, What I end up doing is using the easy-to access component inputs on the side of my TV and just swap the cables for whatever I'm using. Stupid TV doesn't have enough to have 2 game systems and a DVD player all on component at the same time. Grrr.
  25. Wii heat

Congrats, man. I'm now eagely awaiting my copy as well. Every store in the city is sold out of TP, so I bit the bullet and ordered it from Amazon. I'll be playing shortly. (in 480p no less! My first high-ish res Zelda!) Can't wait. How exactly does the GCN brick need to be "cut up" to work? Seems a bit odd that it would require much modification at all.
