  1. [GDC]Real nice news from Sony

Must... resist... cheap shot at Sony... And yeah, I would never have bothered with a headset if it hadn't come with my 360. I've always prefered the "same-room" multiplay to online anyway. When I do go online, there are very few people I want to hear. Luckily with the whole friends list thing, I actually end up interacting with people that I don't mind talking to. I wouldn't have gone out of my way for a headset though, and certainly wouldn't pay as much as you need to to get one working with a PS3. If Sony really wants to get people chatting, they should follow MS's lead and throw a cheap headset in the box with their system.
  2. Some free advice to Peter Molyneux...

I think the dog is a really cool idea. I never did end up playing Fable, but this is making me pumped about the sequel. I've never had a problem with the guy. Hell, in a way I even liked Black and White. It didn't deliver on everything, but it still managed to be a pretty damn solid game. I had fun with it and have fond memories, so the hindsight of "hmm.. that was actually something of a letdown compared to what I'd read" doesn't manage to hurt my opinion of it too much.
  3. If you have the Biggoron Sword, you can use that for the second (read: true form) part of the fight. Makes the whole thing go a lot more smoothly.
  4. Wii not taking games Seriously

I have it. It's Mega Man, but with style. Awesome.
  5. [GDC]Real nice news from Sony

I second that. Hadn't seen the whole thing yet, now I kinda want a PS3. When's this thing due to drop? A few more announcements like this and I may actually be willing to pay for one of the damn things. I'm hoping that this game'll be due sometime near when MGS4 arrives. If the two come together, I'm not sure I'll be able to mock Sony as much as I've been enjoying doing for the past months. Well played, Sony. Well played indeed.
  6. [GDC]Real nice news from Sony

Looks like an interesting little gimmick to me, but like Spaff, I'm not really into social networking. I was really hoping there'd be more of a draw to their big PS3 announcement. Playstation Home just looks to me like a pleasant distraction when you don't have any games to play. In fairness though, that's really all that I've used the Mii creator for as well. I'd rather have something to play than something to distract me from the fact that I've got nothing worth playing. Not to be too negative, I really like this news and I'm happy that Sony seems to be coming out of their slump. Good job, Sony. Now let's have some more. You're one step closer to convincing me the PS3 will be worth it one day, but there're a lot of steps left to go. Oh, and I'll chime in with the "LittleBigPlanet looks fucking gorgeous" crowd, too.
  7. Housewife Superstar

Wait, who? The British? You're gonna have to explain to those of us who don't know your neighbourhood who "Those people" are or I'll have no choice but to assume you hate all British people. Prove me wrong!
  8. PS3 SixAxis/rumble U-turn imminent?

Heh. Like the random Dahmer reference at the end. Good stuff.
  9. 360 games seem very plain to me.

I've played Moto GP 06 a few times at a friend's. Seemed like a damned good game if you're into the genre, but not really my thing. PGR3 though, I was really hooked on for a while there. Came bundled with my system, so why the hell not give it a spin, right? Then came the month-ish of solid addiction. I don't like racing games in general, but when one digs its hooks into me, I'm lost in it until I've cleared each and every event, usually not settling for any less than gold. The same thing happened with Burnout 3 back in the day, and was happening with Burnout 4 until Crackdown came along and pulled me back to my usual fare. This is what I described as my passing interest. I'm never all that interested in any particular racing game, but about once a year I go into a racing coma, play a game to death, and then ignore the genre for the other 11 months. And yeah, as I said in my edit, while EEE is great and I'm sure EEEE will be of similar quality, that was a merely good announcement that had the potential to be earth-shattering. Well, earth-shattering to me, at any rate.
  10. 360 games seem very plain to me.

Co-op is definitely the 360's strong point. If you want competetive multiplay, that's available everywhere. Gears, Perfect Dark, and Crackdown all manage to incorporate co-op as well though, which makes them worth it IMO. Granted, the only co-op I've invested a decent amount of time in is Gears, but the mere fact that they're there brings me great joy. I love the current trend on Xbox that most of the big-name games are finding ways to throw a co-op mode into the mix. If it does indeed come to Dead Rising I'll be ecstatic. I'm with you on Halo, 'vania, although I'll probably end up getting it (after I get around to getting and playing Halo 2) simply for the co-op. Halo was dull. Halo co-op was amazingly fun, and I think the ability to drop in on a friend in an online game would be fantastic. Live Arcade is a lot of fun though. Castle Crashers may not be out yet, but Alien Hominid hit last week and Worms hits tomorrow. Space Giraffe is on the way. When you want to throw down with a buddy next to you on the couch, SF2 and MK3 are both right there. And the current delicious, delicious rumour is that Mizuguchi is going to announce at GDC that Rez is coming to Live soon. Word is he's announcing a game, and that's the one people seem to be anticipating. If this is true, I may weep with joy. HD Rez would be a stunning, stunning achievement. So yeah, it all depends on what your bag is. I'm not really much for the western-ish games myself, but still find that the 360 has been by far my most played system for a while now. Some of the bigger games do have a bit of a generic feel, but they're executed extremely well for the most part, making them quite fun. I've always been a fan of the DoA fighting games, so DoA 4 is a draw for me as well. I'll just finish off with this: I love quirky Japanese games. I'm not a fan of Halo. I don't have any more than a passing interest in racing games. I am still incredibly satisfied with my 360 at the moment. It's a decent little system. When someone you know who's planning to does get one, give it a shot and see what you think. EDIT: Dammit, not Rez. Every Extend Extra. A very fun little game, and the PSP version has eaten up much of my time, but it's just not Rez. Still, this does make LA a stronger service. (though not as strong as Rez would have) Also, Ikaruga is coming. Forgot to mention that earlier.
  11. Hardcore and Casual Gaming according to GDC?

Well shit, if that's how there defining it now, casual all the way. Hardcore gamer sounds by their standard like you have no life outside of games, and if that's the case I'm perfectly happy to be counted out of that group.
  12. Meh

Wow, the first print usage of "meh" occured very close to my home. I'm so proud of my province now.
  13. Has GDC sold out?

I don't think the show itself has sold out, but maybe it's been sold out by others. The press has no E3 this year and is trying to turn GDC into E3 as a result. They're treating it very similarly and the coverage is beginning to make it seem like a sell out. I doubt the show will be drastically different, but the coverage definitely will be.
  14. Is Odama worth US$38?

Myself and some friends of mine playing Odama: Donny actually beat the level doing that. Yeah, it's a bit dumb. Still, the game can be quite fun. Don't know about paying $38 for it though. Seems a bit pricey. I've been thinking about picking up my own copy lately as well, but doubt I'd pay more than $30 Canadian for it. EDIT: The frustrated guy is Russel. He gets like that sometimes. Don't know why.
  15. Damn you EB Games, damn you Microsoft

Wait, you can do debit stuff on Xbox Live in the states? That'd be useful as all hell. I'm always frustrated when I have to go onto Live, put through points with my credit card, then go downstairs to the computer to get to my bank's website and pay it off my credit out of my bank account. Seems like a lot of useless steps to me. Stupid Canada (or really, anywhere not-U.S.) getting shafted with this crap. I wouldn't mind being able to use my Xbox for TV shows like the states, either. Especially with that HD South Park thing going on right now.
  16. Oracle of Ages [crap pun deleted]

I liked Jabu Jabu in Ocarina. Nowhere near as frustrating as the Water Temple. And I was 10 years old and playing my first Zelda game when I beat it. I didn't know the techniques yet and I still loved it. Maybe it was the idea of being swallowed by something and fighting your way out, dunno. It never even registered as a potential "thank god that's over" dungeon.
  17. Happy Birthday to Nick! Also Evildonut!

I love that game. I almost always win, and given some of the people I hang out with, that's something to be proud of. I'm usually pretty good at curbing myself online though.
  18. Post You Pic Thread

I bet it just fucks up his controls like in Earthbound. He's probably wandering around into walls with his chest covered in food yelling "NO DAMMIT! I wanted to put the fork in my mouth!"
  19. New people: Read this, say hi.

Gorrilaz is also good. Still, I've always had a soft spot for Gremlins, so Gizmo won me over.
  20. Sam & Max: Abe Lincoln Must Die

Ok, so now it's a day later and I just finished the game. Holy crap, the dance number was brilliant. For the first 30 seconds of it I just stared at the screen with my mouth gaping. I couldn't believe that they'd actually done it. Then the laughter started. "And so much more! (NAPALM!)" killed me. The back and forth related to the money this time around was a bit awkward, but everything else was fantastic. I don't think I've laughed harder at something in quite a while. It's now almost 7 in the morning and I haven't slept yet, but I didn't notice 'cause I was too engrossed in the game. This also means the game lasted me a little more than 3 hours, so good work with the length. Feels about right for an episode. The little scene before the opening was a really nice touch as well. One last thing:
  21. So what's Crackdown like?

Holy fuck. I picked it up today as I've had way too much going on lately and wanted to take an evening of nothing. Turned it on 'round 9pm, it's now about 1:30 and I just shut it down. I had no idea I'd been playing for that long. 3 star strength, 2 star (but with 92%!) firearms, 2 star agility, driving and explosives still at their base levels. Cleared out the entire first gang in what felt like 30 minutes, turned out to be about 3.5 hours. This game is too much fun. Can't wait to try out the co-op now. n0wak, saw you online when I started it up and almost joined in, but decided I'd like to try out some SP practice before I went in for multi. Kinda regret that now, but as the game seems to be sweeping through those thumbs who have 360s, I'm sure I'll have more chances to play with forumites later.
  22. PS3 SixAxis/rumble U-turn imminent?

Sounds about right. The only problem I have with the PS3 as a machine is that I find Sony's controllers to be incredibly uncomfortable. I'd pity them if I weren't still pissed about Lik-Sang. As I am though, the whole thing strikes me as a bit funny. Still, despite my personal feelings about the company I'm sure the PS3 will eventually prove itself. God knows there wasn't much on the 360 for it's first year either, now it's my most played system.
  23. New people: Read this, say hi.

A noble goal. *sigh* So close... Welcome aboard, bot scum. Also, adding my voice to Nick's in support of the Gizmo avatar. Kickass move, musicjunkie.
  24. PS3 SixAxis/rumble U-turn imminent?

I'm in agreement with all of this, but I feel a bit of pity for Stareye, so I'll post some good Sony news. Looks like they've finally managed to figure out a way to make inoffensive viral marketing. That video is really damn cool. It's a welcome change from their usual intelligence-insulting fare. A step in the right direction. Also, if in a couple of years I end up getting a PS3 (which in all honesty, is likely. Price drop, etc should help.) I won't complain if there's rumble. This only hurts the early adopters. Never a smart thing to do, but if you were paying attention to all the pre-launch and still decided to adopt a PS3 early, frankly you may just deserve what you ended up with.
  25. Heroes in a half shell

I was Donatello for halloween one year. I think I was 7 or 8. Probably 7. My friend's older brother had an obsession with Eastern weapons and had made a bunch of them out of wood. As Don's weapon is a staff anyway, I got to use a (ahem) "real" one. I had as authentic an outfit as a 7 year old in Southern Ontario could get his hands on. Damn I was proud of that costume.
