So my birthday was on Friday. My SO got me the entire run of the Adam West Batman show on Blu Ray. My Christmas break is now set in stone.

It tracks your progress and stats, but that's about it. It used to require uPlay, but they patched that out.

It's a pretty common thing you have to come to terms with as a teacher. Every class on the planet has at least one of THOSE kids. Thing is, when they come to you after class with a problem, you learn about all the shit they have going on at home, all the other shit they have to deal with, the way that being one of THOSE kids gets other kids to treat you, making you even more isolated, etc etc etc. They're still, at their core, a frightened ten year old. And unless you're a fucking monster, you can't hate a frightened ten year old. If there's any sentence I can't repeat enough: People are never shitty. Attitudes and behaviours can be shitty, and some people have more shitty ones than others. I have the luxury of interacting with them while they're still ACTUALLY ten and have a better chance of beating these habits (and are less defensive/more willing to accept help), but I still agree that everyone has a shot. Unfortunately, being a good person is like learning a second language. It's not IMPOSSIBLE to learn it as an adult, but it's a lot easier if you start young.

Nope, don't have Prime. Thought about it a few times, but I live in a basement and my neighbours have to get my mail in their box and put it in a separate one anyway, so same/next day doesn't mean much.

So today when I got home from work, this was sitting there: Pretty weird, right? Especially since, aside from a couple of amiibo, the only thing I ordered off of Amazon lately was a couple of blu rays for my girlfriend for Christmas. I curiously opened it up. Guys, is Amazon making fun of me?

I would be totally into a year of Pikmin. Much as I enjoy Pokemon, I have more fun with Pikmin. -

Sorry, I was under the impression that SAM's intent with this thread was to post our own hopes for the new year. I may have taken it too seriously? -
I also just like having someone at Giant Bomb who is as much of an unashamed Nintendo fanboy as I am.

2015: Year of the PS3... and Back to the Future II

Hey, I know I've got more of my shit together than most 27 year olds, but that doesn't mean I can't hope to make the next step, right? -
2015: Year of the PS3... and Back to the Future II

Persona 5 is a pretty great reason it could actually be the Year of the PS3. For me, 2015 is the year that I really want to get my career solidified. I've been on two temporary contracts so far and spent some time as a substitute teacher, but the contract I'm on right now could actually transition into a permanent contract that will have me set for the next (nearly) 40 years. Like, this is a huge year for me professionally and as my change from student to adult. I'm turning 27 two weeks before 2015 starts, and if I can maintain things I may be set until retirement by the time the year ends. Keeping those goals attainable but high, I want/need this contract to transition, give me my full teacher career, and set me up until I either choose to retire or do something other than teach. 2015 could either be my best ever year or my biggest letdown. Fingers crossed. (Also, if I do get my contract transitioned and am financially secure, it's time to get a new car to replace the one I bought off my mum when I was a teenager and is starting to get old and busted) -
I once ate a ham and cheese sandwich that had two slices of cold pepperoni pizza instead of bread. Dan is my spirit animal.

I dunno. Luigi's up taunt is pretty spectacular in this game... -
So between D4 existing, my getting a new job a month ago and having some extra money, and a very pretty bundle with a white Xbone and Sunset Overdrive included, I became an Xbone owner this week. I haven't started D4 yet, but own it and have downloaded it. I started off with Sunset Overdrive and man, it's pretty fun. This game, for those who didn't quite know what to think from trailers and such, is a hybrid of Jet Grind Radio's traversal, Ratchet and Clank's weapon design, and InFamous' city design. I love all three of those things, so this is a pretty easy sell for me. I was honestly very worried from early footage that the game would feel slow, similarly to the way that JGR stopped being fun the second anything messed with your momentum. Watching people play still looks slow, but I can assure you that it does not feel that way. A big part of this is the fact that when you're not running around grinding and bouncing and such, you're blowing shit up. Enemies are everywhere, with really big crowds and a good variety so far between zombie things and survivor/raiders. The weapons are good so far. Only have three, and have leveled all of these up to level 3, which means that I can load mods into them to change their effects. I can choose, for example, whether the records that I fire out of my modified record player have a chance to electrify enemies or a chance to turn them into an explosive teddy bear. I have also upgraded my melee attack to throw fireballs. Movement feels great, and even though there is a bit of that old JGR "well shit, I missed the rail and now have to use clunky running controls for a bit" it feels quicker to get back into the flow than in the games that inspired it. I killed a bunch of time so far not even playing any missions or challenges but just zooming around the city, and it feels really good to do. Actual gameplay feels incredible. What could get tiresome really quickly is the kinda forced-feeling "punk" attitude of the game. Don't get me wrong, I love punk shit. The music in the game I'm actually really liking. The fact that when an explosive zombie (because of course there are explosive zombies) blow up, the goo blowing out of their bodies forms the word "POP!" in mid-air before falling is also nice. It's the little things though, like when you load your game and the camera is really zoomed in so the character throws is a sarcastic look and elbows it back to the regular distance, that feel like they could get tedious really quickly. Good music and a chaotic atmosphere are great, and a reason I like the game, but when it pulls you out to force you to look at how not-seriously the game is taking itself I just feel like I want to pat Insomniac on the head and say "Yes, developers. You're doing such a great job rejecting mainstream games. Now go get your juicebox and let me get back to actually playing what you made, ok?". It feels really unsure of itself, like those moments are craving validation for what they're doing rather than just having the confidence to let the game be crazy on its own terms. You're a good game, Sunset Overdrive. You don't need to keep asking me to confirm that. Anyone else playing it? Thoughts?

I finished up with the LARPers last night. Probably gonna be done in the next week or so. Still good!

I have always mained Samus. She's still good in this one, though I'm doing the old "go through classic with every single character" to get a feel for everybody. I'm super excited for New Years Eve now, when I will actually have 7 other Smash-literate people in my house. Gonna get a GCN adapter and see what happens! -
Yes and no? It has a chord book you can reference and when a chord comes up in a song it shows your finger positioning while displaying what chord you're playing above the finger chard. It also has a few mini-games in which it fires chord names at you quickly and gradually fades in the fingering if you take too long, but all of the chords in these games are power chords.

He can obviously time travel, having gone back to Wei Dynasty China to seduce Mulan. ...I really like B.D. Wong. -
Beat the Solar System challenge last night. Shit is bonkers. A big deal for me was with two floors to go getting that exploding brain projectile. Just having SOMETHING I could aim helped a tonne. The fight with Mom's Heart turned into me dodging while waiting for the brain to respawn so that I could fling it at her again.

I beat mom's heart for the third time last night and did a boss rush while doing it. I feel like I'm maybe good enough to say something in this thread now? I watched Klepek's streams earlier this year and thought the game looked cool, and have been playing the shit out of this since it was free for Vita on PS+. This game is pretty sweet. I don't understand almost any of the items, but I love playing around with them.
