Seems fair-ish. I would've liked 100 points a song, but there it is. It's not much more than that, so it's cool. In the end, the complete Guitar Hero tracklist will cost 5000 points which is a little iffy. 'bout the cost of the game itself. I guess that's to be expected as if you buy the full tracklist, you are buying the game again. Still, I think that on PS2, that's be the price with guitar, so unless they deem me worthy of a free X-plorer when I've collected all the packs, I may feel a bit ripped off. Decent selection of songs released so far though, although I'll never call my Guitar Hero set anything near complete until I've got Crossroads and Godzilla on my tracklist. Fingers crossed for next update. In the meantime, Higher Ground, Bark at the Moon, (doesn't seem as hard as I remember it...) Frankenstein, Killer Queen, and Ace of Spades will keep me happy. The other four are all decent, inoffensive songs. I guess they needed some filler to go with the ones that people are really paying for. Can't throw all the good songs into one pack, now can we?

Of course the 360 one gets extra stuff. Why the hell else would everyone buy it again? Anyone know when the first pack of DLC songs is supposed to hit? I'd heard a rumour that it was today, but that obviously hasn't happened so now I'm left wondering when I get more to play.

Well, technically, my degree is in Philosophy and Japanese is just some elective stuff I'm doing on the side. I'm actually required to have at least two language credits as part of it too, so if my degree needs it and I'd like to speak it, what the hell? Take that, churlishness.

Heh, I hadn't noticed the idle thumbs logo at the bottom of the page last time. Nice touch.

I'm still proudest of Olaf, my viking. Apparently he's getting around too. A friend went over to one of his buddies' places and saw Olaf on his Wii. How exactly this guy that I've never heard of got ahold of my viking I have no idea, but the fact that he was this dude's favorite Mii makes me proud. go forth, tiny pixelated viking, and conquer Wiis everywhere in the name of Miffy!

Mario and Sonic team up for the first time in Video Game History?
miffy495 replied to BigJKO's topic in Video Gaming
Heh, I bought Mean Bean Machine the day it showed up on VC. God I have fond memories of that game. One of the few Game Gear games I had back in the day, and since I can't find my Game Gear, I get my fix on Wii now. If I'm not mistaken, Spinball is on there too. Looks like Wii may be Sega's retro console of choice for now. -
Damn, points for honesty, anyway. Welcome to the two new folk, but lajone, you may want to poke around the rest of the forum for a bit first. You'll discover that we have a whole thread for Wii numbers. Thing is, it got flooded pretty good right around Christmas with people who'd post a number, say "HI!!! ADD ME!!!" and then never be heard from again. Sometimes they'd go so far as to PM us (I've got a few kicking around my inbox) and that just got extra-irritating. Skittish and wound up as us thumbs are, we reccommend that you post in a few other threads, make yourself known, and contribute a bit before going for the friends add lest we scurry under the fridge like so many cockroaches. After all, why would you want to add us before you know us? You can't just dive in to our friends lists without a bit of foreplay first. Just so ya know. Anyway, again: Welcome. Warlord is already making his presence pretty known in other threads, (bravo, btw) so lets hear a bit about you, lajone.

Taking it too seriously and looking stupid as hell is half the point. I play that thing behing my head, jump around, go for the Van Halen Scissor Kick, whole deal. Let loose and have some fun. If you're playing in public (demo kiosks FTW) then your antics will draw a crowd who you can laugh along at your own absurdity with. Great times for all involved. Give it a shot, man.

Oh boy! Now's the fun part where we all try to guess how long it takes before it's abandoned (sorry, "on hiatus") like 99% of all the other blogs out there. Not that I don't think yours will be great, but damn if most don't go belly-up right quick.

Ok, so I love the leaderboards. I am right now ranked 268th overall. Not too fucking bad. Also, I've determined that the Malmsteen may indeed be possible. The trick is to get the rhythm down in X-Stream. (one of the bonus songs.) It has a nicely paced riff, with a hell of a lot of notes that are perfect for a huge combo without having to wail up and down and lose your rhythm like Miserlou or Thunderhorse force you to do. My current combo on that one is around 350 notes, but I wasn't really paying close attention. It's already the song that got me the 400,000 point award, and will probably net me the Malmsteen and 500,000 point awards if I practice it a bit. Thus conclude my tips for achievement hunters. While I'm thinking of rhythm games, what the hell happened to TommyGun? Is he still lurking around here, or did he jump ship? He was even more in love with rhythm games than I am.

Never saw Spiderman 2. They CGIed up Doc Oc? Weird. I may need to check that out just to see how they did it. Anyway, hi. Good to have you and all that. And how is Loom inappropriate for anybody? It takes some brainpower, sure. But where's the inappropriate? Thinking: approved for all ages.

What can I say? Feels like Earthbound. I have no idea what's going on when I start it up, so I'll make a new file, name my characters and get a few battles in before I go "I'm getting nothing from this, I'll check back after some more months of studying to see if I can decipher a few more sentences." That rhythm fight thing is kinda cool, though I don't understand enough to pull it off that frequently. Basically, it looks like a great game, but as it's so text heavy, it's unplayable until I can read some more of it. Course, I'm only halfway through second year of university Japanese at the moment, so it could take a while. The idea was to have it now so that when I finally can understand it, it's not going for several hundred dollars on eBay and I have it sitting around ready to play. Better $40 now and several years of waiting than several years of waiting followed by $200 for a rare copy.

The Van Halen is given to you when you get a 500 note streak. Given how much of a fluke it was when I got it, I'm going to wager that I'll never get the Malmsteen. (1000 note streak, and one of the 3 hardest achievements in the game) For the record, the other two that I'll never get are the Start a Real Band Already (5 stars on everything on expert) and Kicked the Bucket. (beat Jordan on expert. Fucking Buckethead, could never pull that off on the PS2, don't see why I will now) So two weeks to go, huh? Fair 'nuff. Enjoy when it hits, it's a little bit of an adjustment to use the new guitar, but it does feel really good after a bit.

So once again exploiting the perks of my job, I just got back from an early screening of Grindhouse. Holy. Fuck. Amazingly fun. My only complaint is that they put the two movies in the wrong order. Death Proof really should have come before Planet Terror. It's arguably the better movie, but a lot less crazy and fun. If Death Proof had come first, it would have started a bit slow, built up with it's amazing ending, and then shot straight into the balls-out bat-shit insane zombie fest. As is, the start of Death Proof just feels weird as you're adjusting to the whole "wait, this one actually has dialogue?" thing. Still, most fun I've had at the movies in a long time (yeah, The Host was great, but this kicks the shit out of it) and I'm rounding up a different group of friends to go again on Monday. Just that awesome. Everybody better head to it on Friday if you've got the chance. PS:

Heh. I remember starmen. Used to hang there sometimes back in the day. Pre-thumb and all. Now referred to as "the dark age of miffy's net adventures." Welcome aboard. Always good to get another Earthbound fan around. When I started learning Japanese, I imported Mother 3. The goal is to get to the point where it's playable. I use it as my barometer for where I am with learning the language. Current status: Still baffled, but getting better.

"I am The Milkman; my milk [was]... powdered"

Damn, that'll be a tough one for whoever tries to top it. Where's Rusalka in our time of need? She and Ginger are pretty much the only people on here who could competently out-wtf that. -
In fairness, the PSP GTAs had local multiplayer. Unfortunately (depending on how you look at it) I don't know anyone else with a PSP so I've never had a chance to try it. Played the hacked VC multiplay for a while. Just ended up being my friends and I trying to out-jump each other using Sanchez bikes. Basically the same thing that we did with Midtown Madness multiplayer back in the day, but with the ability to swap cars whenever we felt like it. Some of the mods from MM really made it awesome though. I should see if I can dig that game up again. And to Walter's idea, I agree that that would be really cool. To a lesser extent, I believe Mafia tried something like that a few years back. Don't know if they were all that successful but if you haven't tried it, you may want to give it a look. I seem to remember hearing that the cops got pissed at you for speeding and such. So yes, really cool. But I don't play a GTA game for that experience. When I want to blend in, I fire up Hitman. When I want to rampage or just get into the GTA-style narrative, I play GTA. They're very different games, and while I would enjoy a blending of the two, I don't think I'd want it to go under the GTA brand.

Mario and Sonic team up for the first time in Video Game History?
miffy495 replied to BigJKO's topic in Video Gaming
No, Sonic and Knuckles was still a good game, although using Knuckles in Sonic 3 kinda broke the game. Way too easy. I'm thinking more of when it got to the point where a boardroom somewhere at Sega went: "What would make Sonic better?" "How about an obese cat who's always fishing?" "GIVE THAT MAN A RAISE!" -
Yes it was, I was going to mention that but was apparently beaten to it. It was also in Midtown Madness 2. My friends and I used to take turns grabbing a ridiculously fast car and seeing how many blocks we could jump by flying off the top of that hill.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with Sonic. I love Sonic. He's just not as awesome as Mario, that's all. Nintendo takes far better care of Mario (yeah, I know. Millions of games with Mario's face on them. Point is though, the vast majority are actually pretty good.) than Sega does of Sonic. If Sega had paid attention, maybe Sonic would stand a chance. As it is, it's been all downhill since Knuckles. -
Never actually finished VCS. Got a ways in and exams hit. Still, I found the story of San Andreas to be very well done and always look forward to the narrative of a new GTA. Yeah, I'm familiar with the GTAverse being just the 5 cities (You forgot London: 1969) but I was still kinda hoping that they'd throw something new. Hell, maybe even a game in Carcer. Well, with any luck, they'll have a big landscape like San Andreas and we'll get to explore more than just Liberty. Maybe a version of New Jersey or something that we can travel to.

Yeah, I always forget that a bunch of you guys are 8 hours ahead of me. I'm GMT -7 here in Alberta, so could be an issue. Oh, and the score to beat in Geometry Wars belongs to n0wak. No idea how the hell he managed to pull that one off.
-
I'm not sure how I feel about going back to Liberty again. I've played GTAIII, I've played LCS. Do I really need a third game there? Whatever. Always loved GTA and as long as it keeps the quality, I'm in.

How about 19 year old (and none too mature-acting) student? Can I get away with that one? Please? While it's true that the 14 year old will like the 360, when they exit puberty and start to realize that fun doesn't exclude light-hearted, they'll probably start wanting that Wii again. That or they'll want good games to drink with, as elmuerte has mentioned.
