  1. Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars™

So now that C&C3 is on 360, has anyone tried it? I gave the demo a shot and came away actually quite impressed. They managed to handle the controls quite nicely. The camera was a bit over-sensitive with the right stick, but everything else was smooth and convenient. Selecting groups of units was a bit unintuitive at first but it seems like it'll be something very easy to get over. I may give it a shot in this form given that my PC is starting to get a tad long in the tooth and I'm not sure about how smooth it'll run.
  2. Starcraft 2

Grrr... the vid keeps cutting out at 2:51 for me. I'm sure it's just crazy heavy traffic right now though. Man, between C&C3 and Starcraft 2, I think it may just be time for me to get back into RTS gaming. IT's been a while.
  3. Starcraft 2

Well, at the moment it's a trailer and some basic gameplay footage that noone outside of the conference has seen, so I'm not willing to say anything yet aside from that I'm very very glad that I won't need to do what I've been doing with the Warcraft universe of late. That would be listening to people I know who play the MMO to keep myself up to date on the mythology of a game world I love without actually playing the game because I don't like the genre. This way I'll be able to see the story of the game firsthand! That's enough reason for me to be excited right now. Also, the lead's pedigree seems pretty solid. Never played Emperor, but I heard much good. I'm actually reinstalling Starcraft right now to get my old-school on in a bit of celebratory campaign mode. Off to sit through some Terran tutorial missions and then get my RTS on.
  4. Halo 3 Beta

Well, it's live now. As I've been playing pretty much nothing but Crackdown and Guitar Hero on my 360 for quite a while now, I figured I'd give it a spin for variety's sake, despite never really having been into Halo. Meh, it's a shooter. That's about all I can say about it. I booted up the game, played and won a few rounds, and then promptly booted Guitar Hero back up. I'm trying to see what all the fuss is about, I really am. I even made a point to use things like the Bubble shield to see what kinds of dimensions and strategy they added to the gameplay. I just came away feeling like it's nothing special. It was kinda fun for a couple of rounds, sure, but how it can be the staple of someone's gaming collection I have no idea. I know there are a bunch of other Crackdown fans on the Thumb, and I was wondering how many of you have given it a shot. Could they or anyone who's been really into multiplayer Halo 2 back in the day please try to explain the appeal to me. I'm trying, really I am, but I just can't see what makes this game significantly different from anything else out there. I've got Perfect Dark Zero collecting dust somewhere and I think I may actually get a deeper multiplayer experience if I tried that out than I do with the Halo 3 beta.
  5. Halo 3 Beta

See, now that actually does sound kinda fun. Maybe not something I'd be completely willing to invest the required time to enjoy, but still fun. Problem is the matchmaking. As I'm new, it just keeps on pairing me with said "profanity-spewing wankers" and I just keep on mowing through them. Not so fun.
  6. The power of the DS

Ummm... didn't the N64 actually have more horsepower than a PS1? I was always under the impression that it was. Correct me if I'm wrong, I guess. I'd think that if they went that far they wouldn't have any problems putting FF VII, VIII, or IX on the DS, perhaps even with extra polish. Especially because dated graphics look so much shinier on the smaller screen than on a modern TV.
  7. Importing to the UK.

You may have already ordered it by this point, but I usually go with Playasia when importing. They have yet to let me down, and if you plan to import a bunch, every time they ship an order you'll usually get a $5 off coupon. Helped me to get the BitGenerations series for quite a bit cheaper than otherwise last summer.
  8. Averting the climate crisis

Agreed. Very well put. Not nearly enough people have it spelled out to them that whether climate change is our fault or not, we still end up having a higher quality of life if we just fucking take care of ourselves.
  9. Awesome DS Games

No. ...in seriousness though, this is still one of my favorite games for the DS, and we're almost up to 3 years since it was released. I can play it over and over without it getting dull. The style and variety of the games makes it win. I realize the opinions are mixed, but at least give it a try if you're looking for something unique. Can you rent DS games? I've never tried.
  10. Thumbs Meet-Up Thing

Sounds awesome, but a flight to Brighton from Calgary is a bit beyond my meager student funds. If some financial miracle befalls me, I'm in. Otherwise, have fun and know that I'm very jealous of you all.
  11. This forum depresses me

On the plus side, this week's addition to Live Arcade is free, so w00t to that. Downloaded the Double Dragon demo, but have yet to play it. Any word on the quality of Eets? I enjoyed the demo but I'm not sure if the concept could carry 100+ levels.
  12. BSG given the bullet

I've never seen any of the new BSG aside from the miniseries that launched it...
  13. Oahu! Fast Cars! Complete Freemdom!

I tried the demo out when it was first on Live Arcade and it seemed like a pretty fun little game. I enjoyed what I played of it but wasn't really prompted to blow the required funds. Maybe I'll have to look into it again. It would be on 360 for me though. Something about racing on a PC just never seemed right to me.
  14. Averting the climate crisis

I believe that the thing that Elmuerte is referring to is when there was all the hysteria about "Global Cooling," but also could be way off. He should really pop back 'round and clarify that one. And yeah, always be careful about things like "100% of scientist think..." because they just don't. Go with vast majority or something else that doesn't make you sound crazy. That said, living in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains as I do, the weather being fucking bipolar is nothing new. I've shrugged off jumps of 40 degrees celcius (-20 to 20) far more times than someone in a stable city would. Simply put, I haven't really noticed the climate changing as fucked up is the norm for me. Despite this I'd agree that some shit is going down and we are probably a factor. How much of a factor I'm not really willing to say, but if people can willingly change shit around to reduce their footprint, good on 'em. What do I do? Well, I don't really have much of a footprint to reduce. I walk pretty much everywhere I go, and if I do take the train, it's wind powered in Calgary so that works out nicely. I used the high efficiency bulbs already because I hate having to worry about that crap and, being the tall one in my house, the less I have to change them the better. For me, it's really just about taking my electronics off standby more often so they stop sucking power.
  15. Pokemon Friend Codes

    IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN!!!
  16. Wii number exchange

Cheers. I'll add both of you tomorrow after work.
  17. Super Paper Mario (A happy thread. For Loonyboi)

Heh, I agreed to team up with a villain at one point right at the end of the game. I had to confirm it about 5 times, with Tippi finally saying "If you say yes again, there's nothing more I can do for you." I said yes. Game over. Had to replay the entire fucking boss fight that led up to that conversation. I don't think I'll be snarky anymore.
  18. Super Paper Mario (A happy thread. For Loonyboi)

I found the gaming references to get quite tiresome towards the end. Early on they were worth a chuckle but by the time you get to the bits where you're jumping back and forth between afterlife dimensions and people are always talking about their "game being over" or "running out of lives" it goes from cute to annoying. And what's wrong with a long story? The almost 16 hours of playtime seemed to fit quite nicely and while there is a lot of dialogue, it's localized well and doesn't get too sacharine until just before the credits role when everyone is learning something.
  19. Super Paper Mario (A happy thread. For Loonyboi)

...And finished. Not bad. End time was 16:45-ish, for those that that's a factor to. Although about an hour of that was me leaving it paused while walking my dog or other such things. True to it's RPG heritage, the boss fight had many stages and took fucking forever, but what the final boss turned out to be made it worth it. If you dug the Paper Mario games in the past or are out for a twist on platforming, give it a look. Very much enjoyable. Still pretty funny too, although lacking any standout funny stuff like the hypnotized Hammer Bros speaking in 1337 in PiT. No outburst of laughter here, more a series of good chuckles. That'll wrap it up. Hooray (as always) for Intelligent Systems!
  20. Super Paper Mario (A happy thread. For Loonyboi)

Sorry, I love the hand-drawn, and I couldn't be happier with PiT. Fantastic game, it really was. I just happen to also really like the Paper Mario style and think that it helps to define the RPG iterations of the franchise. Consistency would be nice is all, and the PM art is really the closest that I've seen to the M&L:SS and PiT art done in 3D.
  21. This forum depresses me

You got bricked? That's the first one I've heard about. Hard luck man, you have my sympathy. If it helps, here it is 9:00 (hell, 11:00 Eastern...) and the content has yet to hit for Crackdown. I was really looking forward to tearing it up with that tonight too... Also, Loonyboi, what exactly has been depressing? Was it all the pictures of kittens?
  22. DLC: The right way

Hell, I just popped it back in last week as I'd gotten to Wang but never bothered to beat him. After finishing the game for the first time on Tuesday or whenever I actually did it, (I think it was Tuesday...) I couldn't be more primed for this. Time to go blow $10. ...right after I play the last chapter of Super Paper Mario. So close to the end I can taste it.
  23. Awesome DS Games

...and its impending sequel! Can't wait. What are your feelings on Tengoku? Liked? If so, and if you don't already have it, Warioware Twisted is great. Give a try sometime soon.
  24. DLC: The right way

Hooray for easier orb hunting! I've got about 60 of those damned agility orbs left to go and it's getting mighty tough to track those little green fuckers down. Also: Keys to the city = awesome The stuff you need to pay for is also pretty sweet. It's like Realtime Worlds said "So, Halo 3's beta comes out next week. But you don't really want to play that, do you? Check this shit out!" Love it.
  25. Minish Cap

I hear the stick that Tecmo came out with for DoA 4 is decent, but have yet to try it myself.
