I was planning on using the Classic Controller, to be honest. I love the feel of that thing. I've managed to get a friend who could never stand SSB back in the day (Don't ask me how he formed that opinion. I have no idea.) hooked on Melee recently and he's been getting more and more pumped for Brawl. Given that I've been getting some practice in with Melee for the first time in a couple of years, I may now gravitate back to the GCN control scheme. Especially for the rumble. What I wonder about is how they're going to do smash moves with just the Wiimote turned on it's side. direction + shake? And what of jumping?

I don't know anyone who has hated the Fountain. Opinions seem to be divided between and . One friend of mine, for example, saw it 5 times in the theater alone. He has the DVD now, I'm not sure how many times he's watched it, but I'm guessing quite a few. The flip side is a bunch of people who were just puzzled. Didn't hate it, just wondered what was so special. I'd suggest seeing it just to see where you fall on the matter.

Cheers, toblix. To elmuerte as well, in advance. I'm only in the second year of my bachelor's program right now, so the road stretches long ahead for me. Still have another few weeks of school, as I'm in a spring course, but my sister has been coming over and hanging around my place more often since the high school let out last week. I'll wake up and she's let herself in and is playing Guitar Hero. We jam on co-op for a bit and then it's off to work or school depending on the day, but I digress. Hearty congratulations to the both of you, and good luck to everyone in dealing with little shits/loved offspring (depending on who you are) running around now that school is over for the summer.

Same here. Just tonight I started playing to see how it was, and now I have the full version too. All credit to Namco here, as I liked the original Pac Man but never really saw the addictive quality of it. I can see losing a lot of time to this one though. The guys who did the Double Dragon remake would be wise to pay attention. This is how to put an old franchise on a new console. It takes what could have been just a tired retread of an archaic game and adds enough twists to it (not to mention the psychedelic neon mazes) to make it worth buying and enjoying. Maybe I just need to practice for a while, but my scores kinda feel like they suck right now. My only defence is that the only Pac Man I'd ever played before was in the form of little internet Flash versions of it.

OK, this one definitely falls under the category of "guilty pleasure." I'd always told myself that if Stubbs the Zombie went under $20, I'd give it a shot. Well, I discovered earlier this week that that's now its price on Steam, so I downloaded and am playing it now. Aside from some frustrations getting my 360 controller working with it, it's wonderfully dumb. Shallow gameplay and purile humour, but still clever enough at times and still fun enough to keep me going. It's actually quite a bit of fun. I don't feel particularly smart or enriched while playing it, but I'm not about to stop.

Holy fucking adorable. I love siamese cats, and Lilli is brilliant. I'm sure the stalking thing won't last for very long. When I first got my dog way back in the day, my three cats would converge on her from time to time, allowing her no escape and scaring the shit out of her. This was particularly funny because my dog is about 70lbs and my cats are cat-sized. Within a couple of weeks, they were cuddling up with the dog and cleaning each other. Cats adapt fast. Enjoy the cuteness.

"Bill Gates' vision for the future of gaming"
miffy495 replied to SpiderMonkey's topic in Video Gaming
I took it to mean someone who writes their blog using their own life frequently for examples. Like when Crescente at Kotaku used his son to asses each of the current-gen systems' controllers. Terms like "blography" and "autoblography" come next, although it fits better syllable-wise if you say "autoblogography," it also looks dumb. I'm torn on which to use. EDIT: A large contributor to this post was the fact that I only slept for an hour last night. Feel free to ignore me. -
Happy birthday Dan! EDIT: Cool, that almost looks like a speech bubble.

If we're including recent games too, I should really mention Earth Defense Force 2017 and God Hand, two of the best awful games I've played in a while.

I've never really been able to take the Chinese room seriously. Searle seems to be really overlooking that the person in the room is not the only entity in the situation. To me, saying that because the man in the room doesn't understand Chinese there is no understanding occuring is like saying that because one of my neurons doesn't understand english, neither do I. He tries to dodge this by saying that one could "internalize" the system, but that really doesn't add a damn thing to his argument. It gets even worse when he's confronted later with parallel processing and calls it a Chinese gym, with room after room translating together. He later realized that he was just describing neurons and hasn't mentioned the article since. Gotta love when a guy realizes he's defeated his own argument. Given the contentiousness of the whole situation and the problem of other minds, I don't think any definition of emotion aside frrom a physiological one is practical in any respect. Interesting to debate, sure, but not particularly useful to anyone. As such, I'd go with the perception and phisiology definition over anything else just because it involves things it's possible to know and can actually amount to something rather than more argument.

Rocky Rodent for the SNES. Some cheap Sonic ripoff that got put onto a nintendo system to compete for attitude points. As I recall, he was out to save some aryan looking bimbo by using the power of hairspray cans to give him killer style that he'd use to fight his opponents. The mohawk that could be thrown like a boomerang, for example. Such shit, but I can still hear his digitized "YEEEOWCH!" when I think about it.

Well God DAMMIT. I just got my first ever 5 star run through YYZ on Expert. ...On the PS2. :frusty: Where there are no leaderboards or anything of the like and the only time I play it is now because my Xplorer is on the fritz. I just really hope this doesn't turn out like Free Bird. I swear to god, I've 5 starred that twice, but it's not something I've been able to recreate on 360. That shipment of new controllers can't arrive fast enough. EDIT: Fuck. Why do I keep on playing? Also just got my first 4 stars on Institutionalized, which given those solos I'm quite proud of.

Oh man, that's awesome. It shows off all those weird little techniques you can use to get facial features that aren't supposedly available. Brilliant! I was impressed enough when watching that Zoidberg mii get made with the strategy they used to get the mouth right, but some of the ideas on that generator are legitimately inspiring to someone who likes to make weird miis when I'm bored.

I don't know. Any game that Toblix is willing to call totally awesome has to be something special, given his documented very high gaming standards. (note: though two threads start out positive, they don't last that way for a very long time, although Minish Cap is eventually called awesome in spite of its flaws) I'm almost willing to pick it up based solely on that. I realize that's easy to interpret as sarcasm, but I actually mean that. If toblix gives it top marks, I'm very impressed.

Well, the crazy nurse was just my main example of the people in general. The idea of just the Big Daddys and (I think they were called) Little Sisters going around and maintaining an essentially dead city intrigued me. Now that there are inhabitants, I find it a bit less interesting as a concept. I'll probably still play it and love it, it's just that the atmosphere has been lessened for me by all those people running around.

Excuse me, I need to go buy a tickle me elmo and light it on fire...
-
It's out? I was really not paying attention to this one at all. I seem to remember hearing it would be on Steam, true or not?
-
No More Heroes, for sure. Bioshock looks great, but I'm not sure about the "crazy nurse" thing that the gameplay footage kept on showing. Seemed like it could get pretty repetitive so I'll hold out for some reviews. Insecticide looks really cool, although there's not much known about it yet. Still, it's one I'll be keeping my eye on. And of course, GTAIV, MGSIV, DMCIV, and Half Life 2 Ep2 are all being anticipated greatly. In the short term though, what I'm mostly waiting on is the arrival of my new Guitar Hero controllers so that I can resume the rocking. That and next month's "Guitar Hero Encore: The 80's" pack, which should be 30 new songs of awesome to keep me busy for a while.

Happy Birthday, although there's something a tad suspicious about making your own birthday thread. Like "barbequeing outside a pet store" suspicious...

Wait, like, Seal? I have no idea if you're being serious or not, so please enlighten me. Why the hell would JB be singing that? On a Tenacious D related note, I watched my Complete Masterworks DVD last weekend to celebrate The Metal being in the next Guitar Hero, and haven't been able to get Wonder Boy out of my head since. Damn you Jack Black!

Yeah, I wouldn't have bothered to take a picture, but that specific note streak is too perfect to not commemorate. Honestly, I think I just play enough to fuck up my controllers. It's not the first time it's happened. My original SG gave out on me at about the 10 month mark, but that time I was able to find the problem and, with my trusty soldering iron, sort it out. The Xplorer had required some work too, but that was just to fix a squeaky strum bar and loosen up the whammy bar a bit. This is the first time I haven't been able to get at the problem though. If you've taken apart a GH controller, you'll know the area I mean. I think it's just that one of the connectors on the lower button under the strum bar has come loose, but I can't access it without busting open the solid plastic shell it's encased in. Anyway, yeah. I used that controller a LOT, as did my roommate as he works his way through hard. I think reasonable wear should be fine for it. And now we'll have two controllers, so we can beat the hell out of our own and not worry so much about it.
-
Well, shit. Today while trying to 5 Star Freya (Only one I haven't before the 7th tier. Grr...) my guitar suddenly stopped registering downward strums. I cracked 'er open as I've done in the past to solve problems, but this time my problem was firmly encased in a plastic box that I couldn't get at. I fear my Xplorer is dead. About 4 days after the warranty period expired too. As I'd been wanting to get a second controller for co-op for a while, I decided to check RedOctane's website for the shipping costs for 2 controllers compared to one. Turns out it's only about $5 different. This takes it from $40 a controller (fucking madness) to $22-ish (a bit more reasonable). I did some quick calculations, and considering the mark-up from US to Canadian pricing and how the Canadian dollar has been doing lately, I'd only be losing about $10 to shipping if I make the order. So I went for it. Still, here's my warning to all. Apparently the Xplorer can't take quite as much punishment as the SG can.
