Fuck the reviews, Crackdown is amazing. Since March, I've played other games, but the only two that I keep on going back to are Crackdown and Guitar Hero 2. The DLC packs for Crackdown only sweeten the deal, as they seem to me to be the first game to really get DLC right. One free pack with a load of good stuff, and one reasonably priced pack with so much awesome it's mind-blowing. Honestly, it's become the game that I use to show off the 360 to people who are curious. Pure fun, and the superpowers are great. As for Guitar Hero, it's fucking Guitar Hero. And the best version of it so far. That should be all you need to know. I don't have Lost Planet, but the other games on your list are all great. Kameo is a bit easy and got a lot of criticism for being too "kiddy" but I'm hopeful you're not one of those people that gets put off a game because there's more pastel than brown. Gears is probably my least favorite of those mentioned so far, but is still a fantastic game by all rights. It just feels the most derivative of what's been brought up. At the risk of sounding like a cliched asshole, the most "last-gen." Finally, Viva Pinata is fucking brilliant. I'm not sure if it has a demo or not, but if not at the very least you should rent it.

I've only ever done that once. I owned the original Katamari before getting my PS2. Even then, I knew I'd be getting a PS2 secondhand within a month.

Oh man, I've been meaning to pick up Bully on the PS2 for a while now, as it's one of the games that I missed out on last year. Now I don't have to! The only question is, 360 or Wii? Probably dependant on how much of a graphical overhaul 360 gets, I guess. My Wii needs some gaming love lately, but that should pick up next week with Strikers. Will it still need love when Bully hits, I wonder? Already have Table Tennis, so that's less of an issue. Quite fun, but damn is it hard to master. Recommended, but only if you're accepting of the fact that it'll probably be forgotten about after a couple of weeks and only brought out for the (very) occasional multiplayer match.

Well, my next day off is Saturday, so I'll probably be downloading that as well as Paper Mario on the Wii (and buying Guitar Hero 80s) and going into a game induced coma over the weekend. After the Friday night revelry, of course. Maybe I'll see some of you folks online and have my ass handed to me. I've never been all that good at Bomberman.

From the description I'm hoping for something like Lemmings but with far more severe (and hilarious!) consequences when you fail.

The PS2's d-pad? Really? Always felt a bit floaty to me. As if you could press a direction in and move the pad around rather than roll through directions. Doing a simple Hadoken or anything that requires a transition of that type felt kind of unresponsive in contrast to the d-pad on the GCN. Granted, that pad was tiny and a bit out of place, but at least it had the right feel when you pressed it. On that note, I forget if you have a Wii or not, but the pad on the Classic controller wins the "Best pad of the last 10 years" award by several long shots in my book. As for microsoft, let's not worry about that one. On the original pad (still one of my favorite controllers. I know, I know. What's it to you?) it looked like plastic wrap melting in the sun, and worked about as well. On the controller S and 360, it was like they made a normal d-pad but then forgot to put the controller casing over top of it. If you don't have them, try Street Fighter 2 or Mortal Kombat 3 on Live Arcade and see how long it takes you before you sigh and start to use the joystick.

Feel happy. I honestly gave up on it 3 minutes in. Not worth it.

I'd be all for Guitar Hero if they'd just release some new songs already. You can only listen to the same songs so many times before they all start to get a bit old. By the time I could 5-star Carry Me Home, I was pretty damn sick of it. I used to like that song... Saturday (and Rocks The 80's!!!) can't come soon enough. Yeah, it's only 30 new songs, but that's 20 more new songs than the 360 release offered me, and I've been playing all the others pretty constantly since November. Hopefully it's enough to carry me through to this November and Rock Band.

This thread is just making the wait for my xbox copy (and subsequent inevitable replay) that much harder. C'mon, Canada Post, get your shit together and deliver my package!

Apparently they're still scarce enough around here that the guy at EB yesterday felt he had to play it like a black market transaction. Felt like he was trying to sell me crack...

Oddly enough, what's been soaking up most of my time lately has been that compilation of New York Times crosswords. Fucking great on the bus. It keeps me from having to focus on the sketchiness of the people around me, and if the drunk hobo behind me happens to look over my shoulder, I come off as intimidatingly intellectual as I fill in words on a touch screen. Also, I just love crosswords.

Yeah, it'll be available as a full PSP game and a downloadable PSN game. Throw in Little Big Planet and the new price drop and I may be tempted come the holidays...

For me, this E3 is all about the competing Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3 details. And yeah, Rock Band is currently kicking GH's ass. Full downloadable albums? "Tom Sawyer"? "Enter Sandman"? Fuck. Yes.

... Yeah. Actually, that's pretty awesome. Do you know what kind of powers it gives him?

REZREZREZREZREZREZREZ!!!! *gasp* REZREZREZ! Also, everything that's been mentioned so far is great. I'd also throw in the Devil May Cry series. I like all of them, but the most universally acclaimed is 3. They also have a 2-disc version of Space Channel 5 that's got both the original and it's sequel on it. Gitaroo Man, Frequency, Amplitude, any of the Parappa games. As you can probably tell, my PS2 was mostly used for rhythm and action games. They're the two things the system did better than any other.

Maddenhunt 2008?

Trickery I say! Goddamn the way EA has completely corrupted the meaning of "new I.P."

Well, one of the positives at the end of the CVG article mentioned about 30 hours. It's the only estimate I've heard so far, so there you have it.

A: Do you think we’ll ever fool people into thinking we’re alive? J: No. A: Are you serious? J: Very serious. ...What. The. Shit. Damn, this is amazing. Good find, man. Also: J: How old are you? A: I am 9 years old. J: Nine? I don’t believe you : ). A: : -) I don’t have any reason to deceive you. J: Yes, you do, you’re a woman. heh. Interesting response put into Jaberwocky there. Definitely worth a chuckle.

Don't get me wrong. I absolutely love The Dig and know that Spielberg has a lot of potential for writing/producing/whatever a great game. It's just that... That description. It was painful to read. "If ET were female, grown-up, and hot." It's not cynicism that tells me that that's a horrible description. It's the same part of me that reacts when someone says something like "Cheetos are like a bagel. If they were air puffed, cheese-covered, and tiny sticks." It's reaching to compare something to something else that I already like, while simultaneously making it blatantly obvious that they share really no similarity. Usually, tactics like this are used when trying to convince me that something that's horrible isn't. EDIT: Now this is more like it. Now it sounds like he's shooting for ICO with dialogue. Why couldn't they have said this in the first place?

CVG has a review up now. They seem pretty happy with it. Best since Ocarina are their exact words. To me, this means "damn good, but it's no Link's Awakening," but I know what they intend. Best ever and all that, right? Sounds like my fears about touchscreen control are unfounded. Still, gotta keep that hype from getting to me lest I be disappointed. Stay strong, Miffy, stay strong.

Yet again, he's finding every use for tissues except for the one that he means to!

I like the idea of re-imagining RE 0, 1, and 2 as rail shooters. All the zombies, none of the rooster keys. I'm looking forward to it, though not psyched enough to buy it before reading a bund of reviews. Also, why not Nemesis too? It's the only one I haven't played, dammit. I just want to see the story.
