Yeah, sorry about my lack of availability. Between the school year starting up and the frenzied "Oh god oh god the film festival starts on Friday!" projectionist panic my gaming time has taken a nose-dive. Busy busy busy.

Nah. Almost threw the controller though.

Apropos of nothing, I must now tip my hat to the Bioshock marketing team. The girl (not a gamer in any sense, aside from really enjoying Warioware on the Wii) was over tonight and spotted the Big Daddy figure next to my computer monitor. "Is that that guy from the game that has all those ads with crazy people underwater?" "Huh? Oh, yeah. Came with the game." "Cool. Hey, d'you think I could try it out?" So yeah, while the console FPS controls and most of the combat system are pretty damned overwhelming to her, the marketing campaign that 2K (or whoever is in charge of that aspect) is running has convinced at least one non-gamer to pick up a 360 contoller. Really impressed me, seeing as the Wii is supposed to be the gateway system at the moment.

Super Paper Mario comes to Europe, but I'm not excited any more...

The guy who wrote that "message boards" thing is one of the early bosses in the game. His entire base is pretty damn good. -
I'm not saying I'm not giving it a lot of time. I'm conflicted about, not anti, SG. I'm playing it quite often, honestly. Sometimes it clicks, sometimes it doesn't. All I know is, I can't get past level 13.

Actually, given that I came in to this thread after toblix's comment had been edited out, I'm now very curious as to what he said. Surely a thread would get rather boring quickly if there were no conflict? Interupting the love-in aside, (and I believe I've already placed myself on the side of "love" here) what was said that so offended you, Ben?

i just spunked £1500 up the wall on a new TV and 360 - what next?

Throw your name in the gamertag thread and I'm sure you'll be up to your ass in friends in no time. Yay for people! Also, all three games that you mentioned are stellar. Get them. -
Take it back! Without the hate, you'll explode! Let it out, man. For god's sake, let it out!

The real feedback comes from the controller though. It's all about that extra level of immersion. Only game I've played that makes the music tangible.

That explains Ikaruga, what about Rez? I also have both, but unfortunately neither is on the original console. Has something to do with me not getting a Dreamcast until 2005 and the games being ridiculously expensive by then. Still, PS2 Rez and GCN Ikaruga are much loved, and it'll be great to have both on the same system, without even having to switch discs to swap between them! Also, none of this stuff had better be lies. If I'm being toyed with about the possibility of these games in HD, heads WILL fucking roll.

May I ask what's wrong with "Call of Duty: Big Red One?" Sam Fuller's The Big Red One happens to be one of my favorite war movies, and as one of the less-known (I've had to explain to people what it is pretty much every time I've mentioned it) WWII epics, I was really happy to see it get that little tribute. Never played the game, but at least the title makes me happy.

I believe there was a news item just over the past couple weeks regarding the first decently functioning HDMI switchers just now starting to emerge. As such, they'd probably be decently expensive, but seems they work. It's really not that big a deal for me, I don't mind getting up and switching a couple of cables. Didn't mean to turn this into an actual thing. (toblix, I would have said "loath" or "reluctant." Probably "loath" because I like to sound a bit pretentious from time to time.)

Pretty much. I'm petty like that.

Well, I'd like to try and re-hype you here, but I'm afraid I can't. Super Paper Mario was a great game. I tore through it when I got it. Beat it right quick and haven't really looked at it since. The problem is that since Super Paper Mario came out, Mario Strikers and Metroid Prime 3 both have as well. I really dug SPM, but I doubt that my endorsement will be enough to make you hyped. In all honesty, it's not a must have. It's a very solid and well made game that's a joy to play through, and if you have a clear schedule with not a lot of other games that you want to play first to look at, pick it up. Not worth putting anything else off for, though. -
Well, given that SCART is one of your "European" things, I can't really go for that. I don't have enough hookups for my DVD player, cable box, 360, and Wii all at the same time, so I keep the games systems on the same input and just swap whenever I play. Works well enough.

You realize we already have a hypnotoad smiley, right? How long did you spend finding that gif?

The download link doesn't seem to be working, just fyi.

I'll give it a try next time I hook up the 360, but now I'm really into Metroid. (TV can't have both the 360 and Wii hooked up at the same time. Grrr...) Both so good. Can't decide. I think I may actually prefer Metroid, but I can't say why.
-
Some friends of mine went to the sneak preview for it and were raving about it. I'll probably be heading to see it next day off I get. Seems like it'll be another of those movies that I'll buy the DVD of and watch whenever I don't feel like grabbing one of the art films from my collection, joining Smokin' Aces and Starship Troppers.

I assure you sir, we're anything but generic. Well, maybe. Honestly I haven't looked into it very much. The outside world frightens me. Not really, but it felt good to say it. I was almost going to write you off after that "dogs are superior to cats" thing, but now I feel compelled to convince you that we are worth talking to. Question: If we're so generic, why'd you sign up? I typically lurk a while and decide I like a place before I even think about registering.

Anyone else playing on 360 currently getting hosed by the latest patch? For me, it's gone from running perfectly all the time to stuttering when I try to fucking turn around. This is infuriating. I think I'm getting pretty close to the end too. I may need to switch over to Metroid for a while until they release a new patch that undoes this one. Damn them for breaking my game just as I was getting to the climactic parts.

It's out this week in the UK. Anyone picking it up? As a huge fan of the original (yeah, SP was repetitive but it was one of the best party games I've ever played) I'm really looking forward to this and very jealous that you guys get it two months before us North Americans. As I'll be desperate for information up until I can buy it myself, what do people think? What's noticably different/better/worse? ...Fuck it, I'm going to go play the original for a while.
-
I've added you now, although most of my time with the Wii lately has been devoted to Metroid, so I'm not sure how often I'll be playing. Funny you should mention mono. Had a close call with that myself this summer. Shared a water bottle for a camping weekend with a girl who was diagnosed with it two days afterwards. Also meant I had to wait and make sure I was clear before trying anything with the (different, non-platonic) girl. Awkward week, that was. Glad to hear you're nearly out of it.

Oh come on, that was an amazing twist of an ending. I don't think there's been a game with a more challenging plot in years!
