Actually, the puzzles can be quite tricky. The first one of the second tier had me scratching my head for about 20 minutes. Nappi, I do agree that the fanfare is the worst part of the game. As you mentioned, being told "You got the STICK!!!!" isn't really something I need to hear that enthusiastically. It serves something of a purpose in that you can only hold one item at once, making it nice to know what exactly it is that you have, and the fanfare only plays the first time you pick it up, so it's not so bad, really. Moos, sorry to disappoint, but it really is much more of a puzzle game than an adventure game. If it helps, the path branches a bit, allowing you to tackle the different puzzles in a stage in your own order. Beating the first puzzle opens up two, etc. Given how much I like Exit though, the fact that this game is more "Exit with a pirate-y plot, cool items, and a ton of awesome style" (not to say Exit's style wasn't awesome) than "Monkey Island Wii" doesn't really bother me. I like puzzle levels like this, so the game appeals. As for over-cutesy, I guess it depends on your threshold. As for me, all I thought was "Pirate bunnies! HELL YES!" To each their own, right?

Confession: I wouldn't know as I've never played Ghosts n' Goblins. Sorry. But yeah, everyone get it. Whenever you can, anyway.

OK, so I'm playing it right now. (well, not RIGHT right now, but you know...) Really good. First time I got stuck was on the first boss when but overall there's nothing so far that a minute or so of looking at the environment won't solve if you remember that the objects you're holding change as you turn the wiimote. Love the style, too. The cannibals are just too bloody cute. Even when they're eating soup out of skulls you have to love them. The items are brilliant. Turning random creatures in the environment into tools is a great idea. The Frog Bomb had me giggling for a minute or so before I could get back to the game. Also, the idea to make you play the wiimote like a flute (and in order to get to all the buttons, you pretty much have to hold it that way too) is genius. Just a delightful game so far and although I'm dying more than I'd expect, they treat death in such a way that it's not so bad. Definitely recommended.

I for one wouldn't mind occasionally hearing about ham-pigeons or buttplug factories. Just saying.

And we all know how successful Serenity was...

melted into buckfast?

Yeah, with regards to the visual stuff, I gotta say that the smile on that mountain just makes me inexplicably full of joy.

K, just got 5 stars on the Metal. Demo now conquered, bring on the real game.

Tried it by 2 am on it's release day? I have an exam tomorrow evening, but on the way home I should actually be able to pass by an EB just before it closes. I'm thinking this may be purchased then, though I have no idea when I'll find the time to play it.

Nobody's claimed mine yet, if you want HL2 and Ep1 without the rest of the box.

Very fun game. Didn't encounter any problems on my run through. Every now and then the height of my bounce off a block felt a little iffy, but as you say it's you're first time with a circle collisions, so I'll just say that it was one of the best little time-wasters I've played in a while. Top notch work, man.

Primus, The Toadies, Jane's Addiction, and My Chemical Romance all contributed master tracks to GHII, but two of those songs were only in the 360 version. Originally only Stop and John The Fisherman were the original songs, so this is definitely a huge improvement.

Is anyone else as conflicted about this game as I am? A quick rundown: I love: - The art style - the times I get sucked in - the general arcade-y goodness I hate: - when the enemies and shots are indistinguishable from the background - the levels that are designed in ways that keep you from seeing enemies (I'm looking at you, May I Have a Drop of Fire) - The frequency with which I seem to be able to die in the middle of a respawn :( Essentially, I can see the artistic merit and really enjoy the game based on those qualities, but while that is fantastic, the game itself seems a bit fundamentally broken. It pains me to say it, because I wanted to love this game so much. There's a difference between everything blending together into a beautiful cohesive experience and a visual clusterfuck. Space Giraffe seems, to me, to flip between these two points on a level by level basis. When it's good, it's amazing. When it's bad, I need to stop playing and walk away before I get pissed off about missed potential. Anyone else been playing it? What's the word from the Thumbs?

Anyone else got it? Verdicts on new songs? New controller? What's the general thumb concensus? As for myself: - while the new controller looks a bit cheaper, the feel is much more solid. - The whammy bar seems a bit uncomfortably placed, but I'll adjust. - Hush and The Trooper are unbelievably fun. - Dead! and Salvation suck, but I expected as much. - The new bonus songs are really nothing special, but they'll do. For the first couple of hours it felt like they were just throwing achievements at me. I think I already have almost half of them. The co-op ones may be a bit tough to get, (the guy I play with most honestly has no sense of rhythm) but with the exception of the 1000 note streak one, the Jordan one, and the 5 stars on everything on expert one, they all seem pretty simple. Shocked the hell out of myself when I got the Van Halen award. I was practicing on the PS2 for that one, and just ended up getting it there on a lucky run through Message in a Bottle. Tier 7 and 8 left to go in career as I got sidetracked by co-op when my roommates came home. Depending on my schedule, I may or may not have time to finish the rest before friday. Who am I kidding though, I'll make time. So yeah, any other thumbs pre-order and/or grab it, or do I get to be the token rhythm game obsessive for a while?

Well shit, three posts by me in this thread in a row, but I guess it's better than starting up a new one. Anyway, had to rant on the newest DLC developments for GHII. First off, no longer are we paying 500 points for 3 songs. Now we're paying 200 points for 1. For me, this means the price just went up 100 points as I'm always desperate for new content. Second, rather interestingly, the new songs are not from english-speaking bands. Really fucking cool. Of particular note for me is Los Rodriguez's "Sin Documentos" which is distinctly free of screaming and is just an amazingly fun song to play. If you're not like me (read: just buy all available songs before actually seeing what they are, then play them until 5 stars. Play more if you really like them. Repeat.) and will actually be choosing specific songs to buy, I'd say "Sin Documentos," followed by "Sept," and finally "Exile." Exile is ok, but really easy and generic. Sept is nice if only for the fact that I found it kind of cool to play French metal. Sin Documentos is just what I've been wanting to be available since GHII started getting original DLC. It's a really nice change of pace. Now then, where's my all blues DLC pack, Red Octane?

Had a really good time with the demo now. The Metal = fantastic fun on expert. It's just one of those really satisfying riffs that's not too hard to get down but tricky enough so that you're always on your toes in case you fuck up. Even Flow, I love that song, so . Only complaint is that the only multiplayer options in the demo are face-off and battle. I want to co-op with my roommates, dammit! Well, ok. There is one more complaint. Why does Johnny Napalm now look like he needs a walker? And Lars Umlaut's face is just... wrong. I miss Harmonix's style. Still going to be a great game, but it's missing something in the presentation now.

Yeah, Prey had portals, but they were pre-set things. Really, the portals in Prey were more doors that you could sometime see yourself walking through via the door.

Dunno. Downloaded the demo iso but haven't tried it yet. I went and pre-ordered GHIII so I'll have it eventually anyway. I'm pumped, if only because I really want to sing along to "My Name Is Jonas," but that may simply be because I'm a huge Weezer fan. Either way, I'll be playing it in a couple of weeks so if nothing else it should give a pretty solid boost to my gamer score...

Yeah, so I caved and made the purchase. I can't know about a new Q? game without buying the bloody thing as soon as I can. One very unexpected addition was the R4: The Revenge mode. Frantic and ridiculous. Like if Miz had tried to make Asteroids or something. So crazy and surprisingly fun. The arcade mode was closer to the PSP game that I know and love, but as n0wak said, much more mellow and zen. All I miss are the boss fights. The PSP had some crazy memorable bosses. The one that was a giant morphing carousel-ish thing stands out in particular. I also kinda miss the varying skins. The one on the PSP where you're blowing up flowers and bugs always appealed for whatever reason. Of course, these could exist as you play deeper into the unlimited mode on 360 as well, as I only played unlimited in the demo before making the purchase. After buying I played R4 for a bit and then turned off the console for a while. Still, even without skins and bosses I'd say you should check it out. Original, stylish, puzzle/action hybrids don't come along all that often, and ones of this quality even less so.

The PSP version devoured my time for quite a while back when it came out. Seeing as I'm now considering buying it again for XBLA (and probably will by week's end) can suffice for my reccommendation, I believe. Great game. Takes a little bit to really get a feel for it (though not as long as something like Space Giraffe) but once you do it's bloody great. If you've enjoyed the demo, I'd call it a definite buy. I'll be checking it out soon to see how it made the transition to 360 and if it's anywhere near as awesome I'm picking it up. Also, minor pedantic moment here, but Amplitude was made by Harmonix (see: Guitar Hero, Frequency, Rock Band) and not Q?. And while Rez is a Mizuguchi game, it was made before Miz formed Q?. Still, I get what you mean.

Depends on where you are in French Canada. Quebec City is a bit intolerant of les anglais, but Montreal has never been anything but great to me. I'm way out west though, so it's a little different. I will say this much for Calgary, the city's music scene is great.

Uhhh... sorry? Actually, brkl, I was on mojo back in the day, but I was really young then, went by a different username, and was kind of a prig. I think I joined up on the mojo forums when I was 14 or something. That's just a bad age to be allowed near the internet. EDIT: This thread made me feel like picking up the Xplorer for a little bit, so I did just that. Just got my first 5-star score on Institutionalized! This brings the number of Career mode songs I don't have 5 stars on down to 4. Hangar 18, I'm coming for you next. EDIT EDIT: Damn, no 5 star on Hangar 18. Still, new high score. Anyone know how clow 255,000 is to the expert 5 star mark?

Ok, impressive. Damn impressive. I was right to be as enthusiastic as I was when the game was announced. On test 18 now, having just and my only complaint about the game is actually a complaint about my PC. GodDAMN can it be laggy. Killed me about 7 times on test 14/15 simply because my PC couldn't handle the recursion from portals looking into portals and creating an infinite loop of infinite lag. I couldn't see what I was doing well enough to traverse the level. Only time it's really come up though, and I set down the graphics afterwards which has made it more manageable. They were already set to below the recommended for my PC, but now they're lower and better, so all is survivable. Humor is great, game is just enough of a thinker to have you scratching your chin but not getting pissed off. The first time a turret told me "please put me back down." I couldn't stop giggling. They say funnier things, sure, but something about that one was just so perfect. Love the game. Going to have to eventually get the Orange Box on 360 so I can play through the whole thing without the lag.
