  1. Off-Road Velociraptor Safari

Agreed. When I smacked a chain with two raptors on it into a third and got a super slow motion view of the collision, I was quite impressed.
  2. Weird PS3/Obituary combo

Thanks. I was planning on getting DMC4 for 360, just because that's where I've played the demo now and also it's looking like it'll be about $10 cheaper. I also have CoD4 on PC. Warhawk is a maybe. Is there a trial or something? I've never really bought into the giant multiplayer war type of game, and that seems like all it has to offer. As for Echochrome and LittleBigPlanet, those are two of the main reasons I think a PS3 isn't a waste of money.
  3. Weird PS3/Obituary combo

I'll do my best. All down to whether or not they still have them. If not, I guess since I'm already pretty committed I'll go for the 80GB. Fairly comprehensive BC is better than no BC at all. I went to Sony's website a while back and checked their compatibility list for games I have in my collection that I'd want to go back and play now and then, and it hit pretty much every target. Hell, they even support Mister Mosquito on the 80 gig. I wasn't really aware anyone else even knew that game existed...
  4. Off-Road Velociraptor Safari

Well, I've only played once, but my score was: 490,300 How are we going to compile all this?
  5. Rez HD

Hear hear. You'd never made it to stage 5? Gasp. I hope you enjoyed yourself thoroughly. I'm with you on the higher "forms" though. I'd only ever gotten up to the Giga versions of the bosses before. First time playing through the second level, I got to the Tera right away, which promptly kicked my ass. Oh well. Back for another shot. Or, in the case of the higher forms of the player, I'd only ever been laser-buddha once on the PS2. I can see it happening far more frequently on 360.
  6. Rez HD

Sounds like you think you offended me, Twmac. Far from it, I was merely happy to know more people were following it so closely. It does get better as it goes. Level 5 is something everyone should experience just because it's the most mind-blowingly weird and awesome thing I've seen in a game. That said, it does start out pretty amazing as well, so if you don't get hooked by the time you're halfway through the first level, it may not be your thing. I'd recommend the demo, but I'm not sure how much it covers as this was a game I didn't need to see the demo to know I had to buy it. Having experienced Rez both sober and after having *ahem* partaken, I have to give my preference to sober here. It might simply be that I smoke pot an average of twice a year and I don't care for it much, but I just felt like being impaired toned down my skill level and made me frustrated with myself. I can see how those who partake regularly would find the game utterly amazing in that state, but as a gamer who got good at the game before trying it as such, it just felt wrong. The game will put you in that state unaided. No drugs required. Playing Rez high was like the time I tried to juggle while drunk. I do not recommend either unless you're very, very good at the activity and are confident you'll get a satisfying result.
  7. Unofficial Baby Thumb's 1st birthday today!

Holy hell, it's been a year? Happy birthday, T!
  8. Mass Effect

Actually, sometimes I've opened my map and the pointer is just sitting there pointing at nothing, even when I had no pointer on my map before. It just seems to appear at random. On the plus side, it always works when you want it to. It just works some other times as well.
  9. Mass Effect

Oh god, thanks. I needed a good laugh. That's about the perfect response to anything Mass Effect interface-related. Yes, to get to your map, pause the game and press right on the stick. It's opposite of the journal you use to keep track of your quests. You can set markers with A which makes navigation a hell of a lot easier.
  10. Mass Effect

Granted, I get a lot of "Your Electronics skill is not high enough to preform this action" messages too, but that seems secondary to what you can do on the planets for me. Open up your map and there will usually be at least 3 points of interest. One will probably be one of those, another is usually some kind of base with either character interactions or a firefight, and the third is kind of a toss up. I keep on finding new mineral deposits to survey too. I just finished Noveria (It does get much better than I'd thought. Still not as good as Feros though.) and have gotten quite a backlog of sidequests, so I'm going to try to purge the list before moving on to Virmire. I'm hunting around the Argos Rho cluster right now, then it'll be on to the Hades Gamma cluster. And I'm still quite enjoying myself. Though the sidequests are all pretty same-y, there are some standouts. ...I just realized that I'm having absolutely no trouble remembering the names of all the various planets and clusters that Bioware is using for their game. Without knowing it, I seem to have been absorbing their mythology and getting pretty engrossed in the universe. Kudos to Bioware for that one. EDIT: Sorry, eljay. Started writing before your reply got posted. Now I'm not sure if Wrestle was referring to the hacking or the electronics thing. I thought they were different skills. I will say one thing that's definitely a knock against Mass Effect. I'm almost 13 hours in now and I've only just figured out the menu interface. I think I've got it down now, but man did it take a while.
  11. Capcom announces Monkey Island Wii... kidding.

You bastard. EB says I can't get No More Heroes until Friday. I'd go look somewhere else, but I have a gift certificate to blow.
  12. Overlord

I loved Armed and Dangerous a whole lot. It was added in the last BC update for 360, so that's probably your best bet for playing it now, as I find that old games look and play better on console than on PC for whatever reason. I played it on PC back when it first came out and giggled my way through the whole thing. The levels themselves play out very similarly to the MECC levels from Giants: Citizen Kabuto, which is very tolerable but nothing special. The cutscenes on the other hand will keep you moving from level to level and enjoying the game. Given how many of them there are, it's totally worth it.
  13. Devil May Cry 4

I like. I've only played DMC 1 but have always meant to catch up with the other two. This is probably the excuse I need.
  14. Mass Effect

Fair enough. I didn't realize you were so early on in the game. After you rescue Liara, make sure to head for Feros. I have only played about an hour of Noveria, but so far it's much less interesting. Feros starts off like a typical village-under-seige-save-everybody sort of mission, and admittedly is still very KotOR-esqe (As you say, the whole game is. But I don't see this as any kind of problem myself) but there's a nice little twist and some cool mad scientist things going on too. Very pulp sci-fi, but that's what the game wanted to be and it does it well. I was meh myself until I played Feros. Noveria so far has played similarly to the Manaan (sp?) segment from KotOR 1, with a lot of running around talking and minimal shooting. Would be a bit boring if the story weren't decent and the voice acting fantastic. As is, it's enjoyable, but I'm hoping for more planets like Feros as I go along through the story.

I didn't even realize there was another ill-fated X Files spin off after The Lone Gunmen tanked so hard.
  16. Overlord

I played and really enjoyed the demo, but not enough for me to go out and drop a bunch of cash on it while scrimping for university. After getting tuition out of the way, I'd mostly forgotten about my intention to check this game out. If, as you say, it's made it's way to the bargain bins, now may be the time. Thanks for the refresher!
  17. Mass Effect

I see you're giving Mass Effect a tdown on your signature right now, Wrestle. I'm about 11 hours in now and haven't seen a second yet that I haven't loved. Just wondering what made you think negatively of it. Having just finished Feros and the plotline that happens thereupon, I'm convinced that if the rest of the game is anywhere near as fantastic as that planet, I'll have gotten more than my money's worth. I saw your comments about pop-in and the lock-ups. Having not experienced any game-stopping bugs myself I may be more forgiving, but that can't be all that's affecting the judgement I hope. I've come to expect a far more balanced opinion from you, at any rate. With that in mind, what's dragging it down for you, simply out of curiosity?
  18. Braid

OK, just seeing that Donkey Kong tribute shot makes me need this game. When's it out?
  19. Mass Effect

I don't think I've ever said it before, but if any situation warrants it, it's now. *ahem* OH, SNAP! Really though, as I said a day or two ago, all this controversy has only made me go back and actually play it. About 7 hours in now and enjoying myself immensely. Haven't even experienced a single one of those bouts of slowdown or massive loading times people have been complaining about. Frame rates have dropped from time to time, but never seemed to be anything below 25. As I live my life surrounded by 24 FPS film, I'm fine with that. Elevator rides have never been crazy long. I braced myself the first time I stepped into one, and rather than sitting there bored for several minutes, I simply listened to a very funny news report about an Elcor (the aliens who have no inflection at all in their voices and must state their emotion at the beginning of each sentence) production of Hamlet. Laughed for a second, then stepped out of the elevator. Every ride since has had a brief conversation between my companions or a news report which gave me either a new side mission or a laugh. Where is the problem here? Character development and mission assignment during load times is something I find very refreshing and I'd much rather hear 30 seconds of conversation than stare at (for the sake of comparison) Assassin's Creed's spinning logo for 15.
  20. Crock Band

Well, at least that way they could keep saying that you're playing all the notes when you play it on expert. I'm with you though. I love having master tracks, but it's nowhere near a deciding factor for me. Covers or not, Number of the Beast, Hard to Handle, and Tom Sawyer get a hell of a lot of play on my system. Had a ton of fun last night playing a giant co-op session with my buddies. Our band, White Guy Drowning in the 80s, has made it up to playing on Hard as a minimum on each instrument. Myself and one of my friends both drum on Hard, all four of us are competent singers, and the other three all play guitar on Hard, so we're set. Even more fans per song if I'm on guitar, given the extra bump in difficulty. Still haven't cleared out any one city, but very close to clearing several. Great times.

    Bloody awesome movie. Enjoy.
  22. Mass Effect

I like that she called him "darling" while talking about sexism. Fun times.
  23. New people: Read this, say hi.

I actually had to check the join date on your profile when reading your posts in other threads to make sure you were actually new and I wasn't just a jerk for not remembering you from a while ago. So yeah, you'll do very well. Welcome.
  24. An important question about Vampire: Bloodlines

Saw it on Steam for $20, bought it. Rock Band arrived the next day. Still haven't played. Now I suddenly remember I have it. I'll have to give it a go this weekend.
  25. Mass Effect

Is it weird that, after shelving it just before Christmas and pretty much forgetting that I owned it because I got Rock Band, all this coverage has made me pick it up again? Gotta say, really enjoying it all over again, and it's mostly thanks to Fox.
