Speech! Speech! EDIT: Man, speech is an ugly looking word.

He just got his wisdom teeth out, I believe is what he means.

That's kinda cool. I may pick it up, as long as it's priced decently and not like a new release. This is a pretty old game by now, so if it costs as much as a new Wii game, I'll just grab Battalion Wars or something instead.

Bloodless? I thought that was only in Japan? Boo to that. I've been playing sporadically whenever I get the chance, (just past the 4th boss) which is unfortunately not often as it's exam season right now. Still, very fun game. I think I like Killer 7 a bit more, but that's probably because there was more focus on narrative in K7. Without the blood though, I could see a lot of the charm being sucked out of the game. How comprehensive is Wii region locking? Full-on, or like the 360 where it only applies to a few games here and there?

I'm a little behind on PSP hacking. I haven't bothered trying to run anything unofficial since firmware 1.50 was out. What sort of things can you run on it these days?

Think of it this way: With the way Capcom is going, pretty soon a 20GB PS3 will only be able to switch between 4 games at a time. Hooray for progress.

Very true. I'm speaking from the perspective of a Canadian gamer here, thus I enjoy the benefits of all the frills that the North American launch had. In Norway, I believe it's either find yourself a launch console with software BC or keep the PS2 around. Of course, there's no region locking on the PS3, so if you can find yourself a North American 20 or 60GB model, you do have that option. It'd take a hell of a lot more work and probably cost more than it'd be worth to you though. Especially as you don't seem to have a problem with keeping the PS2 near the TV.

Convenience, mostly. I just wanted to be able to put my PS2 away and not have to worry about switching cables all the time. Now that I have a hardware BC PS3, I have been able to put the PS2 in the closet and not worry about any of my games not working. When I put my original Xbox away and had to deal with the 360's software BC, I ended up having to store a good chunk of my games with it. I already have to swap cables between 360 and PS3 when I want to play things on the one that isn't plugged in, and the access to the inputs on my computer monitor is a real pain in the ass to get to. If I had to do that for the PS2 as well, it would just be a bigger pain. As I said though, it's not THAT big a deal, especially if you don't mind keeping the PS2 around for when you want to play PS2 games. Like I mentioned earlier, if they were equally priced, I would have gone 80GB. Turns out the 60GB was $200 cheaper, so I went for it and enjoyed the extra benefit of hardware BC. I would've been OK with software, or swapping with the PS2. It's just nice that I don't have to.

Mostly because Sony have pretty much said that they're no longer interested in providing software updates, making the software emulation we have now about the best it's going to be. That's not actually that bad, really. Honestly, if the 60GB PS3 I got had been priced equivalently to an 80GB instead of $200 less, I would have gone with the 80 and had software instead of hardware BC. I'd gone through the list of compatible games on Sony's website and couldn't see any glaring omissions. They have a handy little search engine where you can type in a PS2 game's name and see everything related to it's backwards compatibility, known glitches, framerate issues, etc. Kinda nice. It's right here. I'd typed in pretty much ever game in my collection that I'd want to get running again on a PS3 and couldn't see any problems. Even has full support for Mister Mosquito for god's sake. Again, if they were more committed to updating their BC, there wouldn't be any problem at all. As is, it's still probably better than 360's BC support (why the hell can't I play Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath yet?) but it'll always be a bit preferable to have hardware support over software. With hardware, no problems at all. With software, even if a game is supported, there can still be issues. From what I've seen, MGS3 has a shit framerate on software emulation, but it works just fine on my 60GB PS3. On the 360's end, try playing Jet Set Radio Future on a 360, the Rokkaku Dai Heights or Sky Scraper District levels and marvel as your fluid game turns into a slideshow. Or at least, it did for me. I've heard MS has since updated the emulation for that one and it's gotten better. Which is exactly why Sony's abandoning of the emulation updates is so bad. At least MS can fix their broken emulation. Everything coming from Sony right now is saying, if it doesn't work quite right, don't bother hoping for improvement.

eeew. Yeah, I had the holes as well. They only lasted for about 2 weeks for me, then the jaw did whatever it does to make them go away.

Man, cool stuff like this never comes within a reasonable distance of Calgary. Damn my Canadian Redneck city!

Most of them are. What's so wrong with that? -
PLEASE STOP USING "u" AS A WORD EVERYONE!!! Jesus, it's like reading the graffiti on the back seat of a junior high school bus, but with slightly fewer nexopia addresses. Please. Just... stop.

If you hold the left trigger in Little Gamers you can stand still while you aim. Takes a minute to get the hang of, but improves the gameplay quite a bit. I've downloaded Jellycar, Little Gamers, and The Dishwasher as those were the three that interested me most. Kinda liked Little Gamers, if it's $5 I may pick it up if/when it gets a full release. Jellycar was really cool but definitely needs to be tightened up before it gets really fun. I'd also have appreciated an option to view the whole map so I could actually figure out where I'm supposed to be going. I gave up on a level where I honestly had no idea which direction the goal was even in. Haven't had the chance to try The Dishwasher yet, but I'm pretty pumped to. I hope it's not a pay service to just be able to review the games, as I have no use for development tools and just would like to have a say in some good games making it to Live Arcade. You'd think that reviewing things like this would be considered providing a service to XBLA as a tester and wouldn't be something they'd make you pay for.

I seem to be one of the only people out there who hasn't had a shit time getting their wisdom teeth out. I was out drinking the night after I had them out, no adverse effects at all. All four gone, shattered and removed as they do. Took exactly one painkiller, and that's just because they made me down it before I left the office. I still have the rest of them sitting on my bathroom counter. Just in case I ever really need some codeine, I guess.

Well, as the sequel was officially announced today, I remembered that I'd never actually finished Gears. I'd gotten to the final boss and then stopped playing because I'd left the all-important sniper rifle behind a while ago and didn't realize I'd need it. I figure "hell, I may as well get caught up," and load the game up. I didn't want to beat it right away though, as the playthrough that got me to the boss was abandoned in January 2007 and I figured I'd be pretty damn rusty and should just start over. This was at around 7 pm. At about 1 am I realize that I really need to use the bathroom. Yeah, there are a lot of negatives that can be leveled at Gears, but any game that can suck me in like that has to be doing something right. I'm actually kinda pumped for the sequel now. Only a chapter left to go before I'm at the endgame again. Then I get to hear that horrible credits rap for myself, and see whatever cutscene they happen to throw in after you beat the head locust guy.

You know the PSN Network store works through a PC too? The cable to connect the PSP to the PS3 is the same USB cable you'd use for connecting it to a PC, and the demo is only around 39MB. Just saying, you could be playing now. I heard that progress was saved, and was quite pleased to see the "Would you like to save?" screen after clearing the demo. Like you, I'd be a bit worried about the strategy getting too heavy and the rhythm being relegated to scenery, but once again, at $20 I'm willing to go for it.

I'm still kind of wondering why the $500 paycheque I deposited into my Bank of Montreal account a fucking month ago has yet to have more than $100 clear on it. As well as the one of about equal value that I deposited last week. 5 business days my ass, I need to pay off my fucking credit card. ...pokemon stab.

Bah! I think my rhythm game track record will show that I can! /needless cockiness. Cool, glad to hear the game can pull it off competently. Now I'm pretty pumped for it. Stoked even. Dare I say... STOKED TO BE PUMPED???

I fell in love with this game the second I was watching the cutscenes and realized "Holy crap! That vampire is Spottswoode!" From there, I got the crap beaten out of me repeatedly by the game. I'll confess to having the same tendency to shy away from difficult games as toblix. I like enough of a challenge so that I'm always worried about dying, but exhilarated when I make it out alive anyway. Granted, this balance would be different for every player, so I'm ok with dying every now and then as long as there was a recent checkpoint and I can make it through on my second or third try. Even brilliant cutscenes get a bit tired their fiftieth time through though. Still, I kept at it because it was so damned funny and entertaining. Glad I did, although I never did finish it. I'll offer this advice to you, toblix. When I decided to give in and get a PS3, the main motivation for me getting a 60 gig rather than one of the newer ones was so that I could finish God Hand. Just hold out until you or someone you know takes the plunge, and then play all the BC games you want.

I'll probably be buying it pretty soon. Have a 40+ GB music collection, so I should have quite a few opportunities for some weirdness. I'm interested to see if the game can handle things like Peter Brotzmann's crazy mind-fuck jazz. I'll be loading in Machine Gun pretty much immediately after buying it. Anybody playing odd experimental music on there, or is it mostly bass driven stuff that works well?
-
That actually sounds pretty interesting. Given the whole Canadian and not getting BBC thing, I would have to download or stream it from somewhere to watch, so keep me posted if it gets a series so I can find some way to check it out. And Nachimir, I just saw my first TV spot for BKRW, which means I'll be able to see it soon. This makes me psyched as well.
