SEGA signs deal with some guys who made Okami and Resident Evil
miffy495 replied to twmac's topic in Video Gaming
God I want to play Mad World. Hells yes on the announcement. -
Friends all give you a different benefit. Here's the rundown if you're interested: Also, I believe that there are a few different girlfriends you can meet through the internet dating site who will give you different benefits. Health boosts, star removal, etc. That kind of thing. Haven't done that part though, so I can't speak from experience. At the very least, if you have Dwayne as a friend ([bIG SPOILER]and he's alive) I'd get him to the "like" level as his benefit can come in handy on some harder missions. Jacob's is useful too if you go through ammo as rapidly as I do. Packie's is just plain fun. Roman and Brucie are unneccessary unless you really want that achievement, although I think Roman is over 90% by default so it's not such a big deal. EDIT: Nachimir posted while I was writing, but I'll add on top of what he said as well. The reason I left Francis out of my list was that after you complete the story mode the benefit goes away. He also doesn't count as a friend on the game's list. Francis' trick is handy (I'd assume, I made the other choice) but if you really need it there's a girlfriend with the same ability who you can continue to call on after completing the story.

The other restriction is that created songs won't have vocals. Really, I still think I'm done with the GH series, but I won't completely rule it out. It'll take more than ripping Harmonix off again to impress me though...

I was away from a computer (loudly heckling David Beckham from the third row with some friends when he played for the LA Galaxy against the Vancouver Whitecaps in an exhibition game the next city over) and return to discover I've missed a very important birthday. Glad it was a good one, Yufster. I expect to see photos when your presents make you think that crafting a cardboard box transmogrifier is a good idea.

At least he's honest. Ah, for the halcyon days of the 6th grade, when I thought Limp Bizkit and Blink 182 qualified as music...

SEGA signs deal with some guys who made Okami and Resident Evil

They have the juciest bits quoted on Kotaku, as they got to it before it was pulled. Although I'm a kinda drunk at the moment, so finding it is not likely to happen. -
So I downloaded it earlier tonight. I'd been looking forward to it for a while, having been 2 years old and not very interested in gaming when the original came out but loving Sands of Time and wanting to try it out. It's quite fun, but for one thing. JESUS FUCKING CHRIST IS THIS GAME HARD!!!!! I know we're talking 1989 here, but was the timing on parrying and jumping always so damned specific? I keep having this one guy on the third level hand my ass to me because I can't quite get the timing of a second parry down. The one time I managed to beat him, I over shot a ledge I meant to hang down and fell to my death, taking me back to a checkpoint before I'd fought him. At that point I gave up for the night lest I destroy a 360 pad in frustration. I saw Aussie Ben on my leaderboard, so from him and others, thoughts? Those who have played the original, how does this one hold up comparatively and/or nostalgically?

Wow, I didn't have any trouble with that one at all. One thing I can recommend is not to rely on the AK so early in the game. I didn't start using it all that much until almost endgame. Until then, the SMG is very effective and allows you to move faster while using it. You also have a higher running speed with a weapon that you can hold in only one hand, making you far more maneuverable. Aside from that, Body armour.

Fair. I just played the demo out of curiosity and I gotta say I like. Even if it is for the childish thrill of spawning a little demon berserker who will attack my enemies with his very own jackhammer. Something mysteriously satisfying there. I'll probably pick it up early next week as long as it's still at that price. The Darkness thing was kind of an aside though. The main question remains: who's playing PS3 multiplayer and what are you playing?
-
Very first thing I bought when I got my PS3, actually. Great little game, although it does take a bit of getting used to that your character sprite is essentially the same thing as the bonus points you pick up. Don't know how it plays on PC, but after my time with the PS3 version, I'll also chip in a recommendation here. Been playing since January and it's a great little time waster.

It's all about money for me right now. The club interested me, but I can't afford a to risk money on a game that is only "interesting" until I have some steady income. I still intend to pick it up when I have said income, but in the meantime my gaming is all games I already own.

They don't fly, the just sit there. Cooing and glowing red. Smug little bastards.

Holy crap, how have I not heard of this before? British werewolves fighting Hitler's zombie/vampire horde? Gameplay that looks quite reminiscent of Fire Emblem? Hells. Yes. If this gets halfway decent reviews, I'm buying it. I haven't been so overwhelmed with happy just from hearing a concept for a while. Seeing a werewolf fire a rocket launcher was all I needed. My first impression was "hmm... seems like they ripped off a bit from Wolfenstein." Then I stopped caring and started giggling. I'm psyched. Here's the trailer: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/32654.html Anyone else interested, or am I alone in my (admittedly childish, but when has that ever stopped me before?) "Goddamn that looks amazing" reaction?
-
Fair enough. It's not something I'd consider buying full-priced, as I think I alluded to with all my talk of budget, but still seems like something I could enjoy. The rubbish graphics and art style don't bother me too much. I've I've enjoyed games with those before. What I'm concerned with for this one is that the tactical gameplay is at least solid and that the premise is delivered upon enough to make it entertaining. If that happens, I'd call it a success given the obscurity of the people behind it. Still seems like a fun game, I'll have to check out the demo sometime soon.
-
For some reason pretty much all I listened to in March was The Downward Spiral, so this comes at a good time. Cheers, man.
-
Oh. Well poo. Possible yay. Have you played Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn? I've really been wanting to check that out as well. Probably first as it seems like the better game, save for the "fulfilling 12 year old dreams of awesome" factor.
-
Haven't tried, still working on those damned pigeons. 125 left to go...
-
I think I ate a few times in Los Santos and didn't have to do so again until sometime late in Las Venturas. It takes so long to lose the body fat you get from eating that it really has no bearing on the game except for how big you want CJ to look.
-
Ah, fair enough. I'm just hoping the execution can pull it off. I think a werewolf could conceivably retain some of the human's non-feral demeanor, and it does look like the attacks are still largely "run in and claw the guy" so I have hope. And while the vampires fit with the generals, I think zombie is fine for foot soldier. It definitely looks like a budget game, but as long as they're selling it on par with other budget game prices, I don't have a problem with that. Hell, I bought and loved Ghost Squad, and that was pretty obviously budget as well.

Why does juvenile and crude always necessarily mean bad? While I appreciate well-polished cerebral games (hell, why else would I have stuck around here so long?) I'm fully willing to admit that sometimes I just feel like playing something juvenile and crude. Fun is fun, and to deny yourself that simply because you think it's below your maturity level is a huge waste, I think. Avoiding something "juvenile" to me sounds a lot like someone who avoids "kiddy" games. Instead of denying yourself an enjoyable game because you think you're too old for it, you're doing the same because you think you're too smart. This doesn't necessarily apply to you, Rodi, I just find it to be fairly endemic among any declaration that a form of entertainment is juvenile. Your impression of blandness is a definite risk, which is why I said I'm hoping for halfway decent reviews, but juvenile doesn't worry me. Hell, I'm 20. I'm allowed to lapse sometimes. I spent 10 minutes making a pedestrian run in circles in GTA IV earlier tonight by herding him around an intersection with sniper fire, cackling all the while. Doing stuff like that helps prove to me that juvenile gaming can be damned fun.

Been killing pigeons all night. Got about 50 of the little fuckers now, 150 to go. I really want to get these guys dead ASAP as I hear the unlock for it is a hunter helicopter. Fun times ahead. Oddly, there's not much I've found more satisfying yet than going completely over the top on how I kill a pigeon. On a rock right in front of me? Grenade the bastard from a block away. Hiding up in a tower where I can't reach him? Rocket launcher. The splash damage will take him out. Firing a rocket blindly into an apartment block and seeing a puff of feathers fly out the window followed by "164 flying rats remaining" made me very very happy. $5000 worth of ammo to kill a bird! Whee!

I'll say this much, I really, really miss the open countryside of San Andreas. Wherever Rockstar takes the GTA series next, there'd better be some surrounding areas for me to explore. I like realistically modeled cities, sure, but I just think it's so much more fun to be having epic chases along country roads and through forests. Outside of the story mode, I spend almost no time in the cities of San Andreas, it was all about exploring for me. The cities were where I could pick up a good car to take out to the country. That was pretty much it. Also, bring back planes! I freaking loved those things...

Anybody go to www.littlelacysurprisepageant.com yet? Redirects to the FIB's website and gives you an automatic 4 star wanted level. Very nice if you're going for that achievement and also pretty funny.
-
Yeah, it's been a bit crazy. I've somehow still managed to have a life in there as well. Thing is, I keep crazy sleep habits. Usually from about 5 in the morning until noon. Thanks to insomnia, it's meant that the time I usually spend doing nothing online from 11-5 has been 6 hours of GTA. I watched the Canadiens games as well, which means I'd kept the weekend clear on my schedule in case the series went to game 6. It didn't, so Sunday became all GTA. If you're still on the first island, you can get the "survive 5 minutes on 6 stars" achievement pretty easy, I've heard. Something about driving across the walkway between lanes of the Algonquin bridge and hiding out in the tunnels at the other end. Probably be a lot simpler than what I did. Getting a rocket launcher, going nuts, and running like hell.
-
And done. Even got the "Liberty City Minute" achievement for completing it in under 30 hours. My time was 29 hours, 25 minutes, if you're curious. Damn, that last mission was hard, but suitably epic. Now to raise the friendship levels of a bunch of people, find myself a bunch of pigeons, cars, races, etc. And then there's multiplayer. Still, now that I have the achievement, I don't feel any need to rush things. I figured if I was ever going to get it, I'd better do it now as I wouldn't have time to go for a 30 hour run any other time in the forseeable future. So I raced a bit. Blew off a couple of dates and drinking escapades, etc. Good thing I did, too, as I probably would have been just over 30 hours if I'd done any more than I did. Oh yeah, there are assassin missions too. Maybe I'll give one of those a shot. I now have $750000, so loading up on sniper ammo and whatever else I may need shouldn't be an issue. Getting the $500000 achievement turned out to be a no brainer. In fact, there are two missions (one halfway through and the final one) that each give you $250000 for completing them, so if you spent everything but what you earned from them you'd get it. Score. There is now nothing keeping me from wrecking up a lot of stuff online. Hope to see some of you on there. Cheers.
