  1. Happy Birthday to Metallus!

Cheers, man. I'll dedicate a drink to you tonight or something.
  2. Planet Earth (BBC)

What? I think I need this expression defined before I'll understand...
  3. Crock Band

Fair enough. Were you able to keep your HDD? The worst part of something like that would be losing all of your game saves...
  4. Planet Earth (BBC)

Yeah, I've been really psyched to see it but I figure that with the shots and nature of the series, Blu Ray would be the way to go. Thing is, it's $30 more for the BRD version compared to DVD. Worth the $100 price tag for the whole HD version, or should I just grab the $70 DVD sometime? That's really been all that's held me back. I can't decide how to watch it.
  5. Crock Band

    damn. Just... damn. My condolences.
  6. Happy Birthday To Me!!!

    Happy birthday, Ginger!
  7. Best co-op experiences on 360?

Sorry to resurrect this 10 month old thread, but I wanted to comment on how much fun I had with Crackdown tonight. After a lot of convincing, I finally got a buddy to buy the game. I'd been extolling its virtues since it first came out, but it took him this long to pick the damn thing up. Lucky, really. It gives me a reason to play it all over again. My old save file got corrupted somehow, so we even both got to start at the same level of ability. He tried it for about 10 minutes and didn't care. Then I showed him some tricks the next time he came over. That night after he went home he played until four in the morning. I think I got him hooked. So tonight when I get off work he calls and suggests we have a go at some co-op. A solid 3 hours later we've cleared out all of the Volk as a team. So fun. Little things like "I'll go and clear out the switches in the adjacent buildings, you take out Mikailov!" and setting up our strategies before making an assault on the boss made the game a whole new experience. I'll admit I've never really gotten into a game's multiplay before, but I can see myself getting completely reabsorbed into Crackdown (this would be my third time beating it if we finish) and loving it all the more. Anyone have other suggestions for online co-op we could assault after finishing this one? And Marek, to address your point from the last post in this thread, it wasn't so much the name "Hectors" that bugged me as that they named the aliens the "Ravagers" and then tried to find out if they were peaceful...
  8. Heh. Fun read, man. Don't know why you thought it was so horrifying, really.
  9. Crock Band

Wow, I've never even checked the leaderboards. I'll need to do that next time I go on.
  10. So, this "GTA 4" thing then...

Yeah, I went for the achievement too. Finished with an half hour to spare. I still haven't done a single taxi mission for Roman, so you can see the skipability of the side missions. I never really got that "Hitting a brick" feeling, but there were only about 5 missions I had to try more than once, and only 2 that took me more than two tries, so I never really got the chance. The "cutscene, travel, mission" thing is something that's always been a part of GTA, so it never stood out to me. I totally expected it so it didn't come as a disappointment, just a fact of the game.
  11. Call of Duty 4

Actually I recently started playing as well. Stopped after spending an evening trying to beat that damned Chernobyl mission and getting very frustrated. When a game isn't fun anymore, it's time to walk away for a while. Still, the early going in that mission (up until you snipe the guy) is fantastic. I could really see the quality, but that mission just seemed to be taking the piss. I may go back to it in a week or so and see if a break has made me relax enough to get through.
  12. Beyond Better & Evil!

Shit yes. Between this and Rhythm Tengoku I've never been more excited for sequels. And I find out about both in one day. I'm now a very very happy Miffy. ...Now to find my old GCN copy and actually finish it. I know, I know. Shame on me...
  13. Guitar Hero 4 "Not Just About Guitars"

I really hope "sometimes you can't yell" is going to be the next "I've covered wars, you know." It's already the most fun I expect to get out of GH: On Tour.
  14. Rhythm Tengoku DS!!!!

Yeah, it's using it to try and calibrate how in tune with the game's rhythm you are. Goes on a minute or two as I remember, then the game starts. I lent my copy to my girlfriend so she'd have something to play on her gameboy. I think I'll need to replay it pretty soon. If I recall correctly, about a year and a half ago there was a thread where we named our games of 2006 and this was mine. So awesome. Tommy, you may actually know this. I got that little "perfect" flower on all but one game (I think the one I was missing was the second [harder] "clap and sing backup along with the two women and the singer" one) and I always wondered if getting perfect on everything would give me some special reward. Is there anything there?
  15. Crock Band

Glad you're enjoying it Thunderpeel. I had the same initial reaction to the Strat, but after I started using it for a while (mostly so that I could use the solo buttons) I find that I simply can't go back to the Les Paul. It just feels so wrong to not be playing with that lovely guitar. Try it for a while. For me, it's really enhanced the experience. If I don't have a Strat available, I'll play drums instead because I don't want to play guitar with a GH controller. My sister graduated from High School yesterday and decided to throw her aftergrad party at my place as I've been deemed just barely responsible enough to oversee such things. Yeah, I'll allow underage drinking, but I'll make sure everyone is safe too. Rock Band was going the entire night. Kinda sucked 'cause I had to work this morning, but they only get that night once so I let it slide. Watching 17 graduates still in their suits and gowns crowd around a screen singing along was kind of fun too.
  16. That Monitor Thread

My monitor (Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW) is a nice little 24 inch 16:10 affair with a native resolution of 1920x1200 and I've been very happy with it for the past 3 years now. Vetcial and horizontal rotation, height adjustment, the works. I also use it as my primary screen for console gaming. It has a standard VGA port, an HDMI, S-video, component, and composite jacks in a nice little row along the bottom. At the moment, my PS3 is hooked into the component and my PC to the HDMI. As a bonus, this model does PiP, which has come in handy for times when I've wanted to get a forumer's PSN or Live ID off of a thread and into my console, or when I've had a blu-ray on while working on something. So yeah, hope for component, but SCART should do for you.
  17. Haze

Demo's out. Anyone else give it a shot yet? Didn't really seem like anything that special to me, but Free Radical won me over time and again with the Timesplitters games, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Still, this one seems very standard from what I can see. Not bad, just standard. Thoughts?
  18. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Yeah, I'm really enjoying the job. Getting back to music, this weekend I'll be at the Sasquatch music festival. Leaving in about an hour. So psyched. Talk to you folks next week!
  19. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

So it turns out that my new job is as the head "games guy" at the city's biggest HMV. No one else really plays games, so my word is law when it comes to ordering, what to promote, and where to display it. w00t. As an aside, I also happen to be working in what primarily bills itself as a music store. Today, Foxboro Hot Tubs released their first album and I picked it up as I was finishing my shift. I'm completely floored. For those who don't know, Foxboro Hot Tubs are Green Day. A side project, they wanted to make an album with a distinctly 60's pop feel and figured that releasing it as Green Day would confuse a lot of people, so they changed their name for this one. (Sorta like when they released a new wave album as The Network) Holy crap. This may be the best genre mash-up I've heard. The 60's vibe combined with an energy and intensity that I thought had left after Dookie and Nimrod had me dancing along with the entire album the second I threw it in my CD player. The amount of fun they had with this project comes through so brilliantly and just makes everything feel perfect. One second they sound just like they did in 1992, the next they sound like Steppenwolf. Simply the most fun album I've listened to in a long time. And after all this, I just realized I haven't mentioned the name of it. It's called Stop Drop and Roll!!! (exclamation points theirs) and is actually pretty cheap. At least try out a couple of tracks. Anyway, /shameless plugging of CD. Oh, and Crystal Castles has been playing a lot over the PA at work. I'm getting kinda sick of it, honestly.
  20. So, this "GTA 4" thing then...

Yeah, he lived through that with me, but I still haven't seen him since.
  21. So, this "GTA 4" thing then...

You can get Badman killed? That just added a whole other layer of awesome to the game. I'm not sure exactly what he offers. I had him on a couple of missions with Little Jacob and ran into him once as a street event in upper Algonquin. If you have any other encounters with him after that, I haven't seen them. Also, I just noticed the Trailer Park Boys signature. Right on, man. I didn't realize it was watched all that widely outside of Canada.
  22. Smiley's Shooty Adventure

Ok, so I just had a few goes at it, and it was quite enjoyable indeed. The only gripe I have is that using my mouse to aim seemed a tad laggy. It may be intentional, but it did distract a bit when I wasn't shooting where I thought I should be. Led to a couple of deaths that I thought were unjustified. On that note though, love the little "whaugh hah hah hah" upon dying. So yeah. I probably shouldn't be trying an arcade game when I'm as tired as I am and my twitch reflexes are poor, but that's what I took away from my first shot at the demo. Well done, sir.
  23. So, this "GTA 4" thing then...

Yeah, but did you memorize San Andreas either? I find that if I boot up LCS or VCS on the PSP I can navigate either city incredibly easily and know exactly where everything is thanks to my time with the earlier versions of each game. Even after playing through SA's story twice though, I still have very little idea how to get around (for example) downtown Los Santos or western San Fierro. To contrast, I don't know Alderney too well, but the 4 buroughs I have at least a decent grasp of.
  24. Smiley's Shooty Adventure

Grats on getting it out the door man! I'm downloading now, I'll make sure to play before I go to sleep tonight and let you know what I think.
  25. So, this "GTA 4" thing then...

Yeah, that is the last mission. I think I posted about it in aggravation a couple of pages back in this thread as well. This spoiler is about part of the last mission, not a story spoiler. Just fyi.
