  1. FUUUUUUCK!!!

Well shit. 2.5-ish months later and here we are again. Going to unplug it, watch the daily show, and try again after. Good times. Good times... At least this time I'll have LittleBigPlanet to keep me busy if it has to go back for repairs. UPDATE: Yup. It's dead.
  2. PLAYSTATION®3

...Wow. Damn fine list. I don't know what my liking GT5 has to do with anything, but it looks like you've compiled a really great list of what makes the PS3 a good buy. Well played. I actually just downloaded Burnout, and bought a copy of Oblivion because I only ever played a borrowed copy of the PC version for about an hour. Both had the distinct advantage of being $30 and something I've been wanting to check out for a while. Was just about to go play Burnout for the first time, so we'll see what I think about that in a little while. With regards to Resistance, you pretty much nailed it except that you forgot how awesome the weapons are. The shooting and enemies and pretty much everything else are really generic, but this is an FPS made by the Ratchet & Clank team, which means crazy, crazy weaponry. It actually does quite a bit to pull the game up out of mediocrity and let it stand on its own as a really fun, if shallow, diversion. Worth the discounted price I got it for at any rate. I don't know if I'd pay full price for it, but if you can get it on the cheap I'd definitely consider it.
  3. Little BIG Planet

Damn, I keep forgetting this comes out on Tuesday. I'm going to need to get myself a headset so I can actually talk to people I play with. At the moment I have no communication tools.
  4. Consolevania am returned!

Awesome. I just wish I could download some of it. Would be nice to watch it on my ipod between classes rather than only straight off the wappage.
  5. PLAYSTATION®3

Hell, I laughed. I say toblix scored a point or so there.
  6. WipEout HD

Yeah, I found that after switching from whatever I was using to the Assegai ship I went from struggling and fighting to get bronzes to getting at least a silver each time. Of course, this means that my girlfriend chuckles at me every time the TV speakers blurt out "Assy guy!" but some sacrifices must be made.
  7. PLAYSTATION®3

Very true. And ignoring the troll-ish aspects of that comment, I'll add that the first two things I bought for the PS3 were Uncharted and Blade Runner: The Final Cut on BRD. Nothing wrong with having a Blu Ray player. If you have the equipment for it, it's nice to have some High Definition Blade Runner around. (Although I will admit it feels a bit odd supporting HD while listening to my vinyl collection...)
  8. Grand Theft Auto IV

It only took me one more try after I finally got Just don't be too aggressive. All you need to do is survive that part and the endgame shootout will come.
  9. WipEout HD

Brace yourselves. I WAS WRONG. Yeah, so Thanksgiving weekend with the family, I has the PS3 over and was playing GT5 with my mum's boyfriend. We played for a while, but wanted to try something else out so I busted out WipEout. Fun times. This lead to me playing a ton more when I got home that evening, now finished the first 3 cups, with almost all gold medals. Really addictive and fun. Just had to get a feel for it. You win, Cigol. This is in fact a really rad game.
  10. PLAYSTATION®3

Ratchet & Clank Future. Same as the earlier ones, but I still really liked it. Gran Turismo 5. My first GT. Really awesome. WipEout HD. Ok, I give. After playing a bunch more the other day, my initial reaction was dead wrong. All the downloadable stuff mentioned is also pretty rad, although I have yet to play more than the demo for The Last Guy, I really want to drop a tenner on it pretty soon. Everyday Shooter and PixelJunk Eden in particular are fantastic. PixelJunk Monsters needs some love as well. Bloody addictive little tower defense game.
  11. World of Goo

Just came out on Wii today. I'll need to compare prices and decide which I'd rather play.
  12. iPhone/iTouch gaming

Just picked up Galcon based on playing the PC demo and thinking that it could really work. Once I was hooked on the concept, I discovered that there was actually a demo of the iPhone version. So I played that for a while, then realized it does work. Actually really fun. There are actually strategies you need to work out, too. Discovering which planets to go for, how to distract your opponent while you go for the ones that matter. It all works. It doesn't have a whole lot of deep strategy, but for a game you can play a round of in less than 5 minutes, it's a quick, intense distillation of what makes RTS fun. I really enjoy it. I'll be playing it a bunch on my lunch break tomorrow. For $5, you could do a lot worse.
  13. Hooray! Listening to it right now. Good to see you guys back. Particularly those who left altogether for a while (Looking at you, Remo...). Idle Thumbs: Now with fortified extRemo!
  14. WipEout HD

Like I said, I went through the entire first cup. I'd say that's a fair shake. Something like 9 races or so.
  15. Site Question

Either way, they work for me...
  16. WipEout HD

I'm not sure what you mean by fudging it?
  17. VIDEO GAMES

Holy crap! He lives! Also, thank you Rodi for pointing that "begs the question" thing out. As a philosophy major, I have to use it in its proper form all the time and have had it drilled into my head for years that question begging is a real fallacy and not the literal meaning of the words. I always get irritated when I hear it thrown around as it is.
  18. Site Question

Those still work fine for me. I'm pretty sure that the upgrade accidentally the edit function though.
  19. WipEout HD

Bought it. Played it for a bit. ...don't get it. Why is this game such a big deal? To me it feels like they took some of the speed out of F Zero and added slightly dodgier controls. I'll probably give it another go sooner or later, but my impressions after finishing the first cup (grid? hex thing? whatever) were mostly of confusion. Can anyone give me some reasons to get more pumped about this game?
  20. VIDEO GAMES

I usually go with "interactive entertainment" just so I can sound extra pretentious...
  21. No More Heroes

I mentioned in the revived backlog thread that my motivation for the recent finishing of so many games at once from my collection was that I wanted to buy No More Heroes but couldn't justify it given the size of the backlog. Now that the backlog beast has been beaten back, I'm actually in a position where I'd be fine buying the game. Problem is, I now need to wait until Friday's paycheque to actually have the disposable cash for it. With that in mind, it couldn't hurt to get myself pumped a bit. I've seen it in a few people's now playing signature things but we still don't have a thread for it. So let's hear some opinions! As a huge fan of Killer 7 will I be just as enthralled with this effort from Suda 51? What's good, what's bad, what's funny, what is the bloody game like? All I've gotten from reviews is: "It's stylish" and "it's fun" but no one really wants to go into the details of exactly why it's these things. Given the track record around here, I trust the thumb community to be far more balanced and specific in their praise.
  22. No More Heroes

Hey, I liked it. Today's announcement of a sequel got me really pumped, to tell the truth. BOOYAH! MORE NMH!!!
  23. Nintendo DSmeh

That bit I hadn't heard either. Hm... The SD card slot though, I'm totally down for. Been waiting for a DS online store for quite some time.
  24. Spore

Meh, I'd gotten about 2 hours of sleep and had no patience for her. Most days I'd just brush her off, but the tiredness combined with the lateness and seeing her huge sign calling young women who've run out of options (as well as those who use birth control) godless murderers set off this little anger cocktail. I am quite nice most of the time, honest. And yeah, I'm a Canadian centrist too. Even voted for the tories last election because my MP had shown himself to be a pretty damn good guy. Of course, in the years hence he has seemed to become substantially more of a douchebag, so on the 14th my vote will be cast quite a different direction. But yeah, in American media terms that makes me a raving hippie with patchouli oil spurting from every orifice.
  25. Spore

Oh man, today I got stopped by an old woman protesting the abortion clinic that's on my way to the bus stop. She was looking for my support, but I told her she was a burden on society and to go die in a fire. The bit that killed me is that when I told a guy at work this, he was shocked as all hell. Not that I'd said that, but that abortion was legal. He'd actually made it to 22 years old so secure in his little religious bubble that he didn't even realize there were conflicting opinions. Sometimes the amount of removal the hardcore people (on either side of an issue) have from the outside world is just baffling to me.
